This is amazing at his age and I can't tell his voice is any different than when I heard this on the radio when it was a hit! I was in high school and a fellow classman had a project asking if the Kent State students deserved to die and the National Guardsmen were right in shooting them. I said no. He was enraged and at the top of his lungs he started shouting. It was divisive times and I also got kicked out of a host family's home where I paid for rent and daily dinner with the family while I was attending vocational school. I only expressed very quietly and always politely my view against the war and that I didn't like Nixon and that I was going to vote for McGovern.

Needless to say, he got transferred immediately.

@@SoItGoesCAL34 I don't think it shakes them up; those of us old enough to understand had shared experiences from the 60's and 70's. Fifty-three years ago, 1970; fifty-three years before that marked the U.S. entry into WW I, 1917. Time changes so much.

I've never heard anyone whose voice is this close to Neil's. He just posted a video of a full performance of the show (he calls it "The Loner: The Music of Neil Young") he did at a small club in Bridgeport, CT. ✌🏻Right-on!
"Music is...a fundamental way of expressing our humanity - and it is often our best medicine. Music has a bonding power, it's primal social cement. Music, uniquely among the arts, is both completely abstract and profoundly emotional. The power of music to integrate and cure. . . is quite fundamental. It is the profoundest nonchemical medication.
Music can move us to the heights or depths of emotion. It can persuade us to buy something, or remind us of our first date. It can lift us out of depression when nothing else can. It can get us dancing to its beat. But the power of music goes much, much further. Indeed, music occupies more areas of our brain than language does-humans are a musical species.
Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears - it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear. But for many of my neurological patients, music is even more - it can provide access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity. Music evokes emotion and emotion can bring it's memory.
The past which is not recoverable in any other way is embedded, as if in amber, in the music, and people can regain a sense of identity.
Even when other powers have been lost and people may not even be able to understand language, they will nearly always recognize and respond to familiar tunes. And not only that. The tunes may carry them back and may give them memory of scenes and emotions otherwise unavailable for them.
Music, uniquely among the arts, is both completely abstract and profoundly emotional. It has no power to represent anything particular or external, but it has a unique power to express inner states or feelings. Music can pierce the heart directly; it needs no mediation."
    Oliver Sacks
"Sound is the force of creation, the true whole. Music then, becomes the voice of the great cosmic oneness and therefore the optimal way to reach this final state of healing.
Music is the language of the soul; and for two people of different nations or races to unite, there is no better means than music.
In ancient times the greatest of the prophets were great musicians. For a musician, music is the best way to unite with God.
One day, music will take its rightful place as the true religion of Mankind."
    Hazrat Inayat Khan

Neil is my favorite artist of all time, so I say this with the greatest respect and admiration. I think it's time to put away songs like this.

Where was he for the Canadian Truckers Strike? NOt a word from him, nor show of support for the working man, their families and Canadians. I dont get it, unless he's a shill for Trudeau. Say it aint so Neil---please. Legitimate question, so save the attacks--what we cant ask questions anymore? He owes an answer given his songs for the working man and love for Canada. Lets hear it Neil--he's known to get very angry and volatile when challenged.

@@billr2375 Are you so sure he said nothing? That wouldn't be like him and I have had acquaintances in his sphere going back 50 + years. You are right about one thing nonetheless: he has a real mean temper, at least historically.

For some of us, this song will never be out of date. Honestly, it shouldn't be for any of us. I came home from Vietnam on April 30. Kent State happened on May 4. May this song live on to remind us so that we always strive to be a more perfect union. Lest we forget.
