Miss this a lot. I don’t even dislike the DH but I miss pitchers hitting and loved how each league had its own style. Just something supremely cool about seeing a guy deal on the mound and then provide his own offense, and when they wore the jackets on base - so awesome.
I was watching the game when Bartolo hit that homer. It was like glimpsing a unicorn, or a Bigfoot sighting. You knew you were seeing one of the rarest sights in the world.
*It was a horrible rule then (for the AL), and it's horrible rule now (for all of MLB). Does anyone else think it's weird that MLB is the ONLY baseball league on earth that has this rule in effect?*
Man zero Micah Owings clips? I’ll never forget August 18th, 2007 against Atlanta he had like 2 home runs, 6 RBI’s, and 4 hits. Still have his 2007 Silver Slugger Diamondbacks bobblehead
Oh cmooon you gotta add Arrieta's shot off Bumgarner in game 3 of the 2016 NLDS! Im not complaining my Cubs got plenty of representation here im just sayin that one was pretty great.
In 69, 70, or 71, McNally, Palmer, and Cuear (sp) all hit multiple home runs and I think all three hit grand slams, all in the postseason. Not sure why these are not in the clip.
Madbum was the best. Chose his oppos too - Kershaw, Kershaw, Greinke, Greinke, DeGrom. Can't be too many position players who've done that! Absolute legend. Hope he's doing well.
having a DH in both leagues is probably for the best and all but just having Pitchers having to hit just made it feel interesting especially for some pitchers that had to score for themselves sometimes if the rest of the team wasnt able to like and like i know most pitchers didnt care to hit and all that but like I think you wont see two way players in my opinion ever happen again because why would pitchers try to hit if you dont need to at all anymore in the MLB ya know at least thats how I see it.
Love the video but no footage of Brooks Kieschnick or Michael Lorenzen? Those guys were hitting well enough as pitchers that they played outfield to get some more at bats :)
Awesome that Manfred took this away. Baseball should be made more TikTok-friendly. All innings should be 40 seconds long and each player should have a specific sponsor.
How do you make a video on "Pitchers that Rake" and NOT include the single greatest moment of all time? Daniel Camarena. For those that haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and search for it. Greatest play by play call ever, courtesy of Don Orsillo. Ya'll welcome!
Greatest moment of all time? Really? haha recency bias and hyperbole, possibly also a Padres fan. It was memorable for the Padres that season, but come on 😆
THANK YOU Mr. Chiprocks....THIS was a such a fun video to go look up and enjoy! I shall be talking about this with my Baseball buddies and I will indeed tell them just how I came across this SLAM-ERY and they will know your name! Cheers From REDS COUNTRY👋
A better title to this video would be: *_"(except for Shohei Otani) A video of stuff we'll never see again because the MLB has chosen to use the cowardly DH rule for all of MLB."_*
Fun part of the game? Maybe you dont watch baseball much but 99% of the time pitchers were automatic 3 pitch strikeouts. Maybe a few times in an entire season did pitchers actually do anything memorable at the plate.
Hardly any pitchers could hit a home run. Thank goodness for the universal DH. Before people start replying, pitchers can still choose to hit. It’s the Ohtani rule, remember?
I remember seeing how happy and giddy that Mets dugout was over Bartolo freaking Colon hitting a HR. I think the entire fan base felt the same way.
Why does everybody talk about this Homer?
Whats so insane about it?
@@ardomingue Because he was a 40+ year old, overweight pitcher who couldn’t even make contact with a baseball. Try paying attention to details 🙄
That is probably the last time Jacob deGrom smiled

Man, I really am going to miss this dynamic of baseball now with the league wide DH.
*It was a horrible rule then (for the AL), and it's horrible rule now (for all of MLB). Does anyone else think it's weird that MLB is the ONLY baseball league on earth that has this rule in effect?*
Are you though? Yeah, out of the last 30 years you get a 10 minute highlight reel - most of the time pitchers were an easy K.
This has the same energy as if the U.S. Government in 1921 staged an exposition about alcohol.
"Hey guys, remember drinking? That was fun, wasn't it?"
Shohei would need a whole ten minutes (or even more) to himself for this category. 😆😆

Woodruff’s homer of Kershaw is the most electric homer/last homer hit by a pitcher in the playoffs and wasn’t on this smh
Ohtani is a bit unfair to add to this list lol
Aside from watching NFL linemen score TDs watching pitchers swinging lumber and connecting is just as satisfying
MLB, it's 2024. It's time to upload in 1080p.
Bartolo Colon hit the Shot Heard Round the World!!!
MLB pitchers are athletes too!!!

I'm a giants fan and I agree. Clutch hr closed the series
Can the NL go back to having pitchers hit? I miss stuff like this, plus more double switches and stuff
Bartolo clears

The original two way players

About the only time they ever applauded Bumgarner.

no respect for logan webb!! last pitcher to hit a home run before the dh rules
The unbelievable rankings of home run in MLB.
Runs of the history
One: Marathon War Run
Two: Colon Home Run
I was hoping to see the Camarena grand slam 😢 why is that not on here?
How do you not have Rick Camp's homerun in extra innings in July 4 in Atlanta?
Showing Ohtani hitting HRs is just cheating...
Well, he is a pitcher....
No Brandon Woodruff of Kershaw or Yovani Gallardo is criminal

Get rid of the DH in the National League!
Where was Jim Abbott?
Zambrono and Hampton could really hit. Bartolo is always the best.

Madison Bumgarner was a slugger.
Cc Sabathia, have a nice swing.

Pretty bold and a slap in the face for the MLB to remove such a fun part of the game years ago yet still try to market it to fans
