In this video, I share my expression of a few beautiful trees. Actually, there are a few outside my studio window. I am sharing three different approaches; I hope you enjoy them and find the one that is the most fun for you! I'm using a lot of wet on wet as usual and wet on dry. I recently ordered the Snap brushes, and they were fun. They are inexpensive brush that has a lot of snap indeed! They are at a reasonable price point as well.
Before painting each day, if time permits for you (I promise it's worth it ), take 15 minutes and do this warm-up with me before sitting down to paint. you do this daily, and it will make a huge difference in your confidence and expression in your paintings. • Beginners #2: Daily q...

📜On PAPER, I’ve used Meeden and Artisto for many years, and you’ll see me use one or the other in most of my tutorials. My Meeden paper suggestion is 100% cotton, has a really great texture and is finer grade. My Artisto paper recommendation is student grade, handles lots of water, (still good for wet on wet) and is a bit less expensive.

I will be trying this for sure. I like this style of tree. I have a hard time stopping too! I think the Princeton Snap brushes are brushes she has recommended, but "her" brushes are white-handled and I think she teamed up with Craftamo for them.

@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy Yes I should've said I like all three styles! They are all looser than what I've done which I find hard to achieve but your teaching will help. My favorite was the first one but I'll see if I can actually do it without fiddling too much and getting too detailed. I do like the Princeton snap brushes too but haven't tried hers yet.
@@delyta. The first style is my favorite to paint. Once you get to that point where you think you might need a little more, just walk away, and come back in 30 mins, you can always add to it :-). I always walk away, otherwise, I just keep wanting to add something. Watercolors can get overworked and muddy very easily since the pigment is water-based it all mixes together. Its amazing how different a watercolor painting can look when it sits a while.

Thank you Carol, I will look into that, I love the weeping willow trees. They are so flowy and beautiful, I think I would approach them with a wet on wet, and then add in some details with wet on dry. It's on my list to play with and share. Happy Painting Carol!

Yes, play with applying your paint so it creates a sheen, yet no puddling or pooling. Practice washes and you will get better and better!

I do have a few Princeton watercolour brushes and some cheap strathmore paper cold press 140#. My brush sizes are 2, 6, 10 & 16. Family are always giving me various art supplies, so I have several watercolour brands and watercolour pencils. I am a complete newbie when it comes to watercolour. I look forward to carving out some time - usually just Saturdays or Sundays - for trying this out!
@@cindylong2782 how wonderful that you have all those brushes and Strathmore paper isn’t too bad for a beginner. I hope my beginner playlist was helpful. Take your time play a lot and lots of warm-up exercise to develop that muscle memory. I’m so glad you’re playing with watercolors. They are truly magical.✨🎨🖌️

Thank you. I have a drawing, but I am freaking out over the trees in the yard. Shrubs and evergreen and coniferous. In fall foliage. I have drawn everything in colored watercolor pencil and fixing to apply a light brush tone. Its all new to me, and I have ruined a dozen attempts. I appreciate your tutorials. Another excellent and fun tutorial! Calm, authentic and detailed instruction for the beginner. Love it! My trees are ok but the branches, OMG, I need a remedial class!
Thank you AbracaDbra~ Im so glad, remind yourself, your having fun, you don't have to be perfect. Add in the little branches here and there, after the green trees have dried just a bit, then you can always go in and soften the edges as I did. I like soft edges.
Add them in here and there where there are gaps between the leaves. Always use a wet brush but not fully loaded, tap your brush tip on a papertowel to rid the brush of excess water that will puddle and pool on your paper.
