I think it has to do with fact he has the entire rig balancing on a pelican case... 😧 These things definitely need to be stable on a tabletop or screwed to the floor.

Why don’t you just rotate the centre piece? Doesn’t make a difference in this case

That’s true, but one of the benefits you get is the ability to remove the back plate and have the camera move with the background to have a parallax effect.
