Neil is just working his ass off! The man just threw himself completely into this song and every song he did! What a huge talent he was and was becoming at this point, 1975! Awesome! RIP, Neil!
First song of the second album, and first with Neil. He announced his presence immediately on this track, both musically and lyrically. Loving the Rush week!
This was Rush's second album and their first with Neil Peart. I can imagine being skeptical about how good the new drummer was going to be and then hearing this song, which is the first song on the album. Question answered!!
This was one of those songs that past a certain age Geddy couldn't sing anymore, but then again there are not too many other singers who could match Geddy's range at this stage of his career and could do this song justice either.
The guys were 22 and Neil 23 when this song came out. It's a banger! Other Songs and these are deeper cuts Lessons, there is a comic book version of this sing and Alex Lifeson wrote the lyrics for it Resist from the R30 tour Cut to the Chase studio version Earthshine live in Rio Cheers
the first song on the first side of the first album Neil Peart appeared on (Rush's 2nd album Fly By Night) They came out of the gates with all cylinders firing. The song ending is a drumming masterpiece with quads.
I agree you can see the hunger in their eyes here. I think they were fired up with energy Neil injected when he joined. They had toured together on the first album, but this was the first they wrote together. You’ve been watching the guys long enough to see it - very perceptive, Dame. I can’t remember if you’ve watched any documentaries yet, but you should.
Anthem's title is based on the book Anthem by Russian-American author Ayn Rand. Her collection of work was in response to Soviet Communism and is called Objectivism. Objectivism is a philosophical system named and developed by Russian-American writer and philosopher Ayn Rand. She described it as "the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute" Therefore as you hear the lyrics "Live for yourself, there's no one else more worth living for. Begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more" Along with other lines align with Rands philosophy. 2112 is directly attributable to the book Anthem.
You checked out my favorite song already which is the garden but now you need to check out my second and third favorite... Mission and resist. Butt with resist I recommend you check out the live version from the test for Echo tour they do it acoustical it's so pretty
@Dame...no offense dawwwggg, but you being a beautiful brother and showing all this compassion for Rush like you're doing...makes all us nerd/semi-nerd Rush fans truly thankful! Btw, (I'm a semi-nerd...NOT 100%! lol)
You should check out Ged's memoir, My Effin Life out fall '23. Went to see him speak on his book tour at the Beacon Theater interviewed by Paul Rudd. The audio version has Alex reading as well. GED mentions his singing back in day... don't want to blow it... The book is a fascinating easy read.
I agree that Rush is the greatest 3 piece band EVER. But there is another 3 piece you should check out. ZZ TOP Try Sharp Dressed Man to get started. But ZZ is a deep rabbit hole too.✌️
I also agree RUSH is the best 3 piece band of all-time to me personally. However, there's a lot of other kick-azz bands out there who've graced us with greatness. Such as, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Motorhead, BTO, Triumph, King's X, James Gang, ELP, Primus, Genesis, SRV & Double Trouble, etc... Just saying... ++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friends++ 🤘😜🤘
Try the black and white LIVE version of this next. So much better. Btw Rush fans hate this song. To heavy for them . Give them Time stand Still… aka Rush feminized.
It's pretty rare to have great footage of Rush until Exit Stage Left. A few TV appearances and that B&W show are legendary. in the early days they blossomed and matured as musicians playing so many shows live. That 1976 B&W show is from the All The World's A Stage tour, where every song has been further enhanced (especially Geddy adding a bit more feel to his playing) and they played with so much passion. I'm fortunate to have seen the 1976 ATWAS tour, which was a few days after the B&W show
I'm not sure what Billy, AKA thatsnice99, is yapping about here because, as I've seen, this song has always been a popular request; maybe he just thinks that the world should revolve around his apparent inability to appreciate any Rush song with meaningful lyrics.
@@lindaward5376 oh and make sure not to react to Bytor and the Snowdog, that’s another heavy banger not appreciated by FEMINIZED Rush fans. Linda knows I’m right.
My fav rush song. Power punchy with mind twisting words
first song i heard..and after that everything changed!!! thank God! Thank Rush ! 49 years !
Neil is just working his ass off! The man just threw himself completely into this song and every song he did! What a huge talent he was and was becoming at this point, 1975! Awesome! RIP, Neil!
Is this Jim?
Yeah, young RUSH! Holy crap Alex hitting that guitar. Thanks!
First song of the second album, and first with Neil. He announced his presence immediately on this track, both musically and lyrically. Loving the Rush week!
Great to see you joining the RUSH ARMY! GO BLUE!!
They are young men ,amazing.
This was Rush's second album and their first with Neil Peart. I can imagine being skeptical about how good the new drummer was going to be and then hearing this song, which is the first song on the album. Question answered!!
And what was Neil thinking? "I can do more... I need MORE DRUMS!" 😁
Seventies, Eighties, Nineties and Two Thousands! It is fun to explore four decades of music transition!
Welcome to the show King Peart.
Love your reaction! More Rush!
This was one of those songs that past a certain age Geddy couldn't sing anymore, but then again there are not too many other singers who could match Geddy's range at this stage of his career and could do this song justice either.
This Is The Birth Of Progressive Metal!! Sure As Shit!! Believe It!!😁
Ladies and gentlemen, let us introduce you to the greatest drummer on earth Neil Peart 🙏
The guys were 22 and Neil 23 when this song came out.
It's a banger!

This album came out in early 1975, so they were 21, 21 and 22. When Caress of Steel came out late in 1975 they were 22, 22 and 23.
the first song on the first side of the first album Neil Peart appeared on (Rush's 2nd album Fly By Night)
They came out of the gates with all cylinders firing. The song ending is a drumming masterpiece with quads.
Thanks for reacting to this classic. Love Young Rush performances.

To chart their own path. That they don't have to stay in the life others see them in, or sacrifice

No other 3-piece can match Rush in my mind, but ZZ Top, The Police and a few others made some great music.

Yes these were the years you could actually SEE Neil play. Shortly after this they just buried Neil behind a mountain of drums, cowbell, chines etc.

They look around your age Dame!
Dame you are off-the hook,play-boy,danm....you're on fire 🔥 ...Todd from Ohio...Between the wheels...C'mon man...
I’ve done it check the playlist
Neil had to build a bigger drum kit. He was the savior of Rush. so many good songs later. This is awesome though.
Try the black and white LIVE version of this next. So much better. Btw Rush fans hate this song. To heavy for them . Give them Time stand Still… aka Rush feminized.
