For a while, I have been feeling like maybe I play cymbals that are too big. I mean, my smallest “crash” is a 21” Legacy ride. Now I remember why it’s awesome. Not that I can play like you though, honestly that was half of the fun of nerding out to this video-you really just know how to play those cymbals man.
Rick thanks for this video. I like them very much. I too like large ride cymbals. I tend to be an Agop Istanbul guy. I have a 24 and 26 inch 30th Anniversary, a 24 inch Joey Waronker and a 26 inch Agop Signature. I love them. The wash on the 24 inch Agop Signature sounds like a B52 bomber firing up on the runway. I have shied away from flat rides but after this video i will check the flat rides you demo out Keep up the great work. Bill.
I've been playing a 24" 60s zildjian ride for 20 years. It was my first ride, and the only ride I've ever owned. It's quite versatile. I can just barely zip my zildjian soft symbol bag
Imagine taking that 30 to a gig on a small stage🥴😂 I’ve got a 26” agop 30th anniversary ride that is killer. It never gets out of control and crashes like a dream. I have 2-24”Sabian prototypes that I play together, and they ride and crash like a dream as well I’d love to get a thinner 24” zildjian if I could find one… Bigger is better!😁 As always, love your videos!
Using rides this big and dark, puts my head into an ECM space. That A from the '50's is killer and sounds almost like a K. Really nice. Although I play thin cymbals these days, nothing over 2200 grams, never played 26" or 30" cymbals. Maybe I played a 30" at the CT. Drum Show many years ago? I don't think I liked it or I would have had that stuck in my memory. Interesting.
Whoa. I wonder what it feels like going back to 21-22-inch ones after these. Probably like playing a kids’ drum set. I have a Bosphorus Master Series 22-inch flat ride. It’s very lightweight (1950 g) and has a wash similar to that of your Masterworks-somewhat trashy and with a tiny bit of a swish-knocker/china character to it. Your 26-inch Bosphorus, though, is a gorgeous sounding cymbal. Really like it.
Das 24er Avedis hab ich sofort erkannt. Sieht genau so aus wie meins. Mit outline stamp. Dieser Stempel wurde von 1955 - 1963 benutzt. Das exakte Alter kann somit leider nicht ermittelt werden.
Beautiful cymbals and playing! Do you know where I'd be able to pick up one of those Chaffee bass drum dampeners? I know they're discontinued, and have been looking for ages.
on the opposite side, 16 inch rides are not that common, I have two of them, one is an old K made in Turkey, the other is an American Avedis Light ride, hollow ink logo, then next is a 17 inch Zildjian Re-Mix ride, and from 18 to 22 there are several of them , thanks for the interesting video, you are a great host and drummer
thanks for the link, and yes I checked out your full long video a few weeks ago, now I'm just checking out the 18" cymbals, the timeline chart is very helpful to hear the comparison right away, thanks
Rick....I had a 30'' Zildjian ride cymbal that supposedly belonged to Gene Krupa...I had a drummer friend begging for this ride, which was given to me...35 years ago I got $250 for it...Never found out if it was GK's ride.
That 30” A Zildjian is insane! Reminds me of the Sabian AAX “XL” 40 inch cymbals from a few years ago 😁 th-cam.com/video/e113t77YRik/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gyteGvloQaJQYYJD
I love a flat ride with rivets, you basically just get sizzle in the background on the right one. It's just pure wash with just a bit of stick hit. Jon Fishman uses one in Phish a lot for spacey/ambient jams.
WoW😮 I guess I need to break out my 24” A Zildjian Sweet Ride again. I also have 22” A Zildjian ride cymbal that I bought at a music store on Peachtree Street in Atlanta Ga. back in 1963. This was back before Zildjian inked up their cymbals with their logos and I was clueless as to its weight then and still am today, but it’s not extremely thin . My latest ride cymbal is a Wuhan 22” koi series cymbal that’s B20 bronze and sounds great with more wash and not as much stick definition.
@@StuckSeatpost ok, i just remembered i have a flat that was supposed to b a 18 crash w a bell that came w my low volume cym set so i put an upside down splash on it. its as described when riding; dry w articulate stick def.
My god, these are simply stunning… I think you could make any cymbal sound great though haha!
Beautiful drumming!
Thank you.
I love the cymbal videos Rick! It's amazing hearing these cymbals sing with the stellar playing. Keep sharing your collection.
Great demo,I think you could make a garbage lid sound great.

The cymbals sound wonderful. What amazing playing as well! Thanks Rick
Thanks Nick.
Awesome sounds.
Never click so quickly. Thank you for such informative video.
❤
Agree
Always look forward to Rick’s videos
Watching the 30" from the overhead-cam makes the toms look like 6, 8 and 10".
I absolutely love my 24” Paiste 2002 ride. It’s so versatile…..it’s really a lovely cymbal

I've got a 24" K Kerope and thought that was big! wow.

what a cool 30"!
Ah the old Camco sizzlers. I had one back in the 60s.
I love big ride! My overall favorite size is probably a 20, but i have many 22 vintage As from the 50s, and i love my 24" Paiste Giant Beat.
If you ever want to sell it... 😊
The Paiste 24 giant beat is probably one of the most versatile cymbals
Zildjian 24”❤😮

The Avedis 24" sounds awesome. I have some in my area for sale but they are all above the 3500g range unfortunately.
And I thought my Ziljian A 24"
1971 was big...😮
I think Weber bought the extra inventory to use as grill lids for the ranch kettle.

Thanks, I completely agree with you.
You can see some great 18" rides in this video

The "A"!
I had that 23 inch A CUSTOM anniversary ride.... Ridiculous

👌
5:25 could you speak a little bit more about this device sound time? I would love to get one.

whats the advantage of a flat ride?
No bell generally means much more defined and articulate stick definition.
Drier sound. A good one is beautifully transparent. Listen to the Matrix by Chick Corea or some older Pat Metheny.
