When you check out the headset bearings and feel or hear play I can also reccomend putting a finger on the stancion and seal of the fork for good measure. Sometimes if your bushings have play it can feel like it's the headset

9:30 maybe measure the disc thickness with a micrometer - a caliper is measuring the thickest part of the disc, ie the edge that isn't touching the pads, ie isn't wearing out.
The brake fluid doesn't cycle back to the lever. Bubbles can go up hill but dirt generally won't. It can be cooked and full of dust at the caliper and look fine at the lever. When in doubt flush it out. Your video on brake bleeds is a great reference!
For doing wheel work, I have come to appreciate the Park Tool Wheel Holder. I did the full commit by bolting it to the bench, so if you go that route, put the thru axle attachment on sticking straight out and then imagine finding a place on the bench where you aren't going to run into it all the time. Other than that, its been very handy for a lot of this stuff, especially putting a new tire on and trying to get it to seat.
You can check sealant through the valve stem using a small pick like a dip stick
another easy way is to take it off the bike and let the tire sit for a minute, then without Spinning the tire Hold the tire by the sides, lift it up like a baby on the sides And give it a swinging back-and-forth to hear the sloshing. If there’s no sloshing, then you need more sealant

Here's what we do to check sealant: Have the bike off the ground (on the stand), put the valve core at the 6 o'clock position, remove the valve core, and use a skinny zip tie as a dipstick to measure the depth of sealant in the bottom of the tire (1/4 to 3/8 inch is good). We put Orange Seal in using a syringe with a tube on the end and we always leave the wheels with the valves between the 5 and 7 o'clock positions so they drain while they are at rest. We clean off the valve cores when we check sealant or change tires and occasionally, we check the old valve core and put in a new one. Valve cores are (relatively) cheap!

Haha! We were wondering who would catch that. Unfortunately the bar plugs that came with our grips just will not stay in these handlebars. We're looking for replacement ones that are slightly bigger so they will stay in.

Could have been a pass down from the helicopter paradigm; the “Jesus nut”, sudden onset of intense airframe vibration with the pilot screaming “OH JESEUS, NOT THAT NUT!!!”
Old helicopter mechanic told me that they called it that because if you lose that nut, you're going to get to meet Jesus. 😂 Plus the double meaning of "Jesus Nut" just sounds funny.

That was a really good run through. That is pretty much what I do when going through donation bikes that we are redistributing. Macky's definition on the origin of the Jesus Clips is how I learned it too on the tower. We had a little spacer clip needed for the cable hangers. You would pull a clamp out of your bolt bag and the clip would fall out and of course you would holler, " JESUS!".
Could you do a video on how to adjust the rear derailleur shifting with SRAM AXS shifting? I seem to not be able to dial the shifting on the wireless very well.

Bolts I have found loose are rear suspension linkage bolts, Derailleur hanger, handle bar clamp bolts, brake caliper and seat rail mounting bolts.
I'm very lazy at cable replacements and Syd reminded my both derailleur and dropper seat cables are due. UGH
I just realized I lost my bike pump yesterday when I was packing up my bike after a long ride. It had to come off in some heavy brush as it was a snap in plastic holder but I had a picture from days earlier and it was already missing so I didn't notice it for days. Wouldn't have been fun to get a flat without it. Might go back and search but it's only $18 and a long trail to cover.
re: Sealant. if the exact amount is not critical, get used to how much sloshing the sealant makes when you first put it in. Grab the bike (or better, wheel off) and shake it. After awhile you'll hear less and less sloshing. IMO, still worth it to pop the bead and refill, but that also lets you see how little there is for how little slosh you can hear. Makes a quick and fairly accurate check when you're grabbing a bike you've not ridden for awhile.
I just replied to another comment about this. I do the exact same thing and I know The way my tire sloshes(I use the exact same word too!)

Great video, What torque setting are you using for the different bolts?
Many of ours are marked either on or near the bolt so we used that. On general cockpit bolts are 5Nm
If you're not too worried about exact ounces of sealant I remove the presta core, let the air rush out, add the sealant (Stans) with a syringe... give it a shot with an air compressor, put my finger on the stem, then quickly put the core back in. This way you don't have to pop the bead and you can quickly top off your sealant. This works for seasonal riding/practice (I coach NICA) but probably isn't precise enough for serious racing if your worried about weight or really want to be thorough.
Seeing that a few bolts were loose, do you guys loctite bolts, or just torque them?
I use Stans and just use a syringe to add it through the valve and have no issues. It has a long skinny tube on the syringe so the sealant doesn't guck up the valve.

Did you even watch the video? Stan's Race has large particles that clog those tubes. Hell, Muc-Off sealant can clog even the fat Stan's Injector tube.
Stan’s race will seal the end of the syringe before you can even finish pushing it all through

I use Stans not Stans Race Sealant.
I use stans race through my valves but then I use a high power air compressor to seat my tire so it blows them out well... I guess. No issues with clogs so far, fingers crossed!
Ive been running stans race sealant through the valve core... sometimes it feels more difficult to pump up, I always assumed it was from the inserts..? Thanks for the warning!
I’ve never had any issue with Stans through the valve but I use a tube on the end of the syringe so that it’s actually pouring right into the tire, past the valve.
Great video, one piece of advice I like to give is after you’ve given your bike a good once over pick it up and bounce it off the ground, mentally record how it sounds/feels. Do this every time you unload the bike(between bolt checks/maintenance), it’s a really simple way to find problems.
Wy does a wheel or chain always make the ticking sound when you dont paddle ? is there a fix to make it soundless ?
The lever bleed is the only thing I miss from shimano brakes my magura not so easy to bleed
Don't forget to check your pedal cleat screws. Many races have been ruined by these little things coming loose.
All my dropper post issues went away when i bought a Sram AXS Dropper. Problem Solved!

I assume you mean the sag indicator (black o-ring)? If so, that's to measure your fork sag (just like the one on the rear shock).

Question for you: why don’t you wax your chain? It seems to be the “in” thing and I’ve noticed my drivetrain is quieter and seems “faster”.
We have definitely heard good things about waxing chains but haven't tried it ourselves. Certain waxes do seem to be a bit more efficient that Squirt although it's one of the most efficient of the traditionally applied lubes. Mostly we haven't because it's more work and you get many of the same benefits from Squirt lube without having to remove your chain to clean and lube it.

Just a comment on the Jesus nut. The big nut that holds the rotor blades to the rotor assembly on top of the swash plate of a helicopter is known as the "Jesus nut" to pilots and mechanics. If the Jesus nut comes loose, everybody on that helicopter is going to go see Jesus. Love all the videos on bike maintenance you 2 do.

I heard a rumor that Stans Race is just the Stans long-time ago original recipe. Do you guys know? I have played around with 75% Stans mixed with 25% Hobby Lobby latex just cuz. Seemed to work.

Also, sometimes it can be hard to shift if your chain is worn (too long) and needs replacement. Don't ask me how I know about this. My bike shop mechanic gave me HELL!

Can you elaborate on your comment about how a saddle that is slid all the way back is a really good way to get knee problems?
I think the comment referred to your seat moving from its pre set position by being loose, be it forward or back. Moving the saddle fore or aft alters your leg extension and knee position relative to the bottom bracket and can potentially give you sore knees if it’s extreme enough
Yup, that ⬆️. And rarely does it slide forward if it gets loose.

You guys got to be insane to belive a bike s needs that often checking and replacing, especially when you pay for high quality bikes. Trucks hauling tons of merchandise thousands of miles dont need that often replacemets and checks .And 90 percent of people owing Enduro and downhill bikes used in extreme conditions often get their bikes repaired at professional bike shops,with trained mechanics .RECOMMENDED .NOBODY wants to buy equipment worth thousands of dollars ,for changing parts one time in 5 years .
My point is ,don't exaggerate and don't promote consumerism and money wasting ,for the only purpose of throwing money on the window .
In 5 years of riding hard trail mandraker I only changed the chain and that's all of it .not even the brakes or the disk or the brake fluid needed changing or replacing .from time to time I check the bolts to be tighten, chain to be clean and lubed and that's it .riding on snow ,mud s,dirt and no problems or big investments.
remember to be on the side of viewers and riders not the ones who produce and make millions out of some people's stupidity .
Protip,keep your bike inside ur house or heated garage especially over winters,away from humidity or changes of temperature. That's going to prevent thousands dollars to go away from ur pocket.
BTW,electric gear changing another stupidity invention for people to throw money on 😢
