Hey buddy I have that same hammer. I thought I’d never in my life see another one anywhere. I wish I knew the origins of it. Thanks for another great video and showing the little wrench I made for you.
Hi Mr Doeboy, I watch scoutcraft channel all the time. Well last night I sent him an email pertaining the hammer. In short I've been looking for one my self he suggested to ask you if would sell the one you have. So here I am. Would you sell it?
The hand vise is indispensable! You use it to hold small parts when grinding against a wheel or wire brush so you don’t injure or lose your fingers. I found one myself a couple years back in an antique store- picked it up for 3 bucks, and I’m glad I did because it does come in handy.
Hope Mancave has a speedy and full recovery. My thoughts and prayers will be with him and his family. Today’s video was great, the hand vise formed out amazing! Thanks
Lots of great projects on the channel today! The vise looks better then when it was first made. Really a outstanding video. Thanks for sharing this ScoutCrafter.
I am very glad to hear that Michael is doing somewhat better. Thank you for the update! Mishmash monday means way too much nice things to comment on! The hours spent on the handvise really show.
Glad to hear Man Cave is making a recovery. I'm sure I can speak for many here that we look forward to the day that he has a new video posted and is back to doing what he loves best. Thanks for sharing all in the video. You help make Monday's bearable knowing that it's "MISH MOSH MONDAY!"
I'm been watching your videos for a few months now and it has encouraged me to start restoring tools. Is it possible that you can do a shop tour and go over the equipment that you use for your restoration? I have started purchasing items and I'm interested in what you use, especially the wire wheel/ polisher? I really look forward to your videos. Keep up the good work!
Hi David! You couldn't have picked a better hobby to enjoy! You are going to have a ton of fun and although some of the procedures seem awkward at first as soon as you tackle a few tools it will become second nature! I always go back to basics every few videos but I encourage you to look at some of my earlier videos like "FAQ answered while restoring a billings wrench" or "Quick restoration of Klein Linesman Pliers" You will get lots of tips there! Thanks David!!!!!!
Hurrah for Mike ManCave! Power to you Mike. ScoutCrafter and all friends, I know I virtually disappeared for the past 100 days or so... well, if you can believe it I had a short and furious cancer hurricane again. This time it was Malignant Melanoma, and upon hearing the first pathology I decided I did not want a lot of drama. But suddenly we had a burst of doctors involved, telling me to get ready to fight my final cancer battle. In the end, an excellent surgeon I know removed an aggressive chunk of my upper left back, and after a lot of pathologies and consults, they all decided it is gone. I have a huge web of scars on my back, so my career as a loofa model is over - but the whirlwind is over and I'm finally stable for the first time in almost two years. That's four cancers beaten in a decade!! So glad to be getting back and really trying to get my "shop that would not be built" done. Back on topic, I have a green Stahwille 12377 Brass Coated Steel Bristle Wire Brush that looks suspiciously like it came from the same factory. You can buy one from KC Tool for $5.76. Oh, and it's made in Italy!
I'm glad that Mike in the man caves doing better that would be tough for me I don't think I can handle being blind. Those little brushes I've seen them, but like you said that the ones I looked at here in the states were at discount stores. I didn't think they were worth buying. I'll look into those Italian ones. That might be something I want to have in the shop. The one I use for welding is getting pretty beat up. I have a couple of those hand clamps. I think they're nice for doing filing. I like to mount things in my big vice when I'm filing on them, but sometimes the big vice is just too big to grab them. You can take something really small and pick it up on that little hand Vise and then clamp the hand Vice in the big vice . That way you can kind of move it around and get to it a little easier. Obviously we wouldn't want to clamp yours in a big Vise. That would kind of screw up all that work you did on the head polishing. I've got a oil can sitting on the bench that needs a little work on the pump and the tank is a little banged up. That would be a good job to work on for the April first challenge. The oil can challenge. I'll go over to TD's Channel and take a look.
Hi Dave! Spid is the way to go! I included a link in the description of an interesting video showing the difference! I know you must have at least three hand vises! LOL Looking forward to seeing your Oil can all spiffed up and working!!!!!!!!! Thanks Dave!
2nd this about MIke. Thank You Lord and my hand vise is a pair of Vise-grips. Thanks everybody and my oil can better stay put seeing's how I rarely use it. I like the Vaper sprayer better.
@@ScoutCrafter I never count tools, unless it's to make sure I have a full set. I don't know exactly how many hand vises are in the shop. The two cast steel ones came in, hiding in boxes. There are a couple of the wooden handled type. Not my favorites but they work. Smooth jaws don't knurl the surface like vise grips. For fabricating and welding I went with Lewie and the vise grips. There is a box under the bench and that many again in the weding area.
ScoutCrafter that hand vice came out excellent! It was so beautiful I would be reluctant to use it because I would want to get it dirty or possibly damaging it! Wonderful job!
Gotta love the mish and the mosh on ScoutCrafter Mondays!! You really went all the way on the hand vise!! Beautiful!! What changed your mind which led to more work? I know, I know, it's gotta shine or go home!!! Lol! Best wishes to Mike and his family!! Get well soon!!
Hi Steve! I had it all ready to paint on the sides of the wrench, it was very rough so I started with the file and then I just got carried away. =D I don't think I ever used one, the vise grip always seemed more useful! Thanks!!!!!!
Hi nice to be here, you saved the MOST IMPORTANT item for last we so love that big giant, Cliff you are a rock star to us micro-machine operators love this tool a lot, I mean do not get us wrong we love all of the tools nice blue Channel Lock soft plug remover tool (we will order it as we did not know about it and yes made in the USA) and all that but wow from a half dollar to a nice little to, thank you for the share, Lance & Patrick.
Prayers going out for MIke Mancave! Thanks again for a great video Scout. The hand vice really looks nice, although I agree I am not sure what I would ever use it for. Watched Cliff making the monkey wrench when he did it originally. He is a talented guy!
Great news about Man Cave and the Shelley screwdriver is gorgeous. The hand vice became a work of art and is far to pretty to ever use. Hope to take part in the oil can challenge!.
@@michaelpugh4894 I use colloidal silver. No use for cancer. I hope it keeps me from having it. I already have had a melanoma. I will check out your links. As this guy talks about tools.
I got the Chinese spid brush and red plastic handle came off the second time I used it. I have a old school set of screw starters in three sizes and I was told by an old time wood worker I knew that they are called “gimbles” that hand Vice is awesome.. I have a birthday coming up in case you are looking for a gift to send me.
Hey RG!! The one thing that always annoyed me is how the Chinese go out of there way to impersonate a product and make it inferior... That gives a bad name to the original! Thanks!
New subscriber. Never seen tools done up so nice. So I bought an old Columbian 504 vice and started on it. I learned real quick why you wear gloves and recommend paint stripper. Thanks for the fun. I really enjoy the videos.
Wow Good News About Mike, All the Best... Funny How you Showed this Red handle wire Brush, I have Been Using similar model... It even showing up on my Mini Vise and Hand Vise videos. Seeing this restore makes me think about refinishing my Hand vise... Thanks for sharing, diYotam

I have not long refurbished a Wesco oil can and have another coming in the post. I have also been looking at hand clamps / vice. But I have been thinking, do I have a use for one. I suppose it would save my fingers now and again. Still looking for a cheap one to clean up. :)
Hi Scout Crafter that little vice would be perfect for breaking those mixed nuts you get around Christmas. you could have it beside the bowel on the coffee table when you have guests over.
That hand vise looks like a heavy-duty version of a jewelers vise--used to hold small pieces of jewelry that are being worked on. Jewelers have bench top and also hand-held vises (I'm not a jeweler, but I've watched them work on the wife's pendants and rings).
Best wishes to your friend Mike. Hope he is up and around soon. I'd never seen one of those hand vises before. But I guess they could come in handy if one is trying to do something with a small part. - Kathie
Hi scout, hope your friend Mike improves, great job on the hand vice ,I have one that was part of a ww11 mechanics kit, mine has a groove in the jaws to hold a pin. The little hammer your sending to Mike is for testing knee caps, especially when you kneel on it in the middle of a diy job ,and the claws are for removing Toenails ,lol!*ouch, Best wishes to all . Stuart.
Hey Scout, I was wondering if you got into oiler pump cans or not. Guess my question was answered.I scored 8 of them yesterday at the flea market here in Syracuse, NY. 3 Plews, a couple of old Eagles, etc. Also a Columbian C-43 vise, $15, and several other goodies. I almost forgot to mention I thought of you the other day when I bought a hammer lot. I haven't posted the video yet but I will. In the lot was a Dixon model 9, a vintage Blue Point, and 2 other older models. They are very unique in their shape and I figured you would get a kick out of them. The shape of the heads is similar to metal body working type of hammers but I believe them to be silversmith pieces.
Wow! Sounds like a great score!!! The funny thing about oil cans is they are a magnet for dirt and dust making them always look old! LOL Hopefully you can do one up for the 1st of April! Thanks so much!!!!
I'm glad to hear Mike is doing well. OK, so where is the link to the SPiD wire brushes and I did search Amazon but can't find the SPiD stainless steel brushes? Lots of Chinese copies though and we don't want those. 😀 I always wanted one of those hand vises but have never seen an old one out here. Guess I'll start watching eBay more. The restoration on yours is topnotch. Thanks for the video!
I loved the mishmash today. Good stuff! You're the only person I've heard say that some "brass" wire brushes are actually brass coated steel. Why would they make that product and do they tell you on the packaging? I could see damaging something if I assumed it was brass.
Prayers are going out for Mike!! And for New Zealand! As to the video...I love these Mish Mosh Mondays for a bunch of reasons...One, when I would have a bowl of Neapolitan Ice Cream, when I was a kid, I'd take a spoon and stir the ice cream in my bowl until it was like a milk shake....I used to call the stuff Mish Mosh! LOL! For some reason, the chocolate ice cream always won out and Mish Mosh was brown😀 of course, the variety in the videos is GREAT!! The only problem is that it seems Mondays are coming around too fast!
Hi Bill! When I was a kid we to had the Neapolitan Ice cream! We bought Breyers and it was good! For some reason now Breyers doesn't taste the same... =) Thanks!
Those are great brushes. I have a similar hand vise as you, I think mine is more like the second one you showed. I use it to hold fasteners when I wire wheel them. It was my dad's and not sure on age. I cleaned mine up as you, not as well but ran a die over the threads and mine has a spring on the shaft that goes through. I used it when my fingers got wire wheeled too many times and remembered I had it..... I need to get your email address and address, I have a long wooden handled screwdriver I'd love to get to you. I love the old wood screwdriver handles. I loved that teeny pipe wrench.
Your recent comment about being retired & losing track of what day it is really hit home. What did you do before you retired & what company did you work for?
Hi Al! I worked for the MTA for 32 years, 16 as a Bus Driver and then 16 in the shop... Like 2 lifetimes! LOL We earned this Al, enjoy every minute! Are you on cloud 9? =D
@@ScoutCrafter I hate retirement. I was forced into it at age 56 after working my way up the ladder after 37 years of dedicated service. I got tossed out along with a lot of other employees b/c we were over 55 with more than 25 years service b/c we were under a fully funded pension plan that the company wanted to stop funding. Idiot CEO & his merry band of morons managed to lose 79% of a worldwide $6.5B company in 7 years but he got a $12M severance. Used to be the 11th largest employer in CT but their market value is now $1.25B. But - I'm sitting in my RV 40 miles East of Yuma right now complaining b/c it's 80 degrees - LOL!!!
Hello Matthew! My mentor Dan contacted me and said these came in a "Tool Kit" from the 50's and 60's... Oddly enough he showed me an example on eBay that was missing the hammer! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!
Hi Andrew! No, I have a couple cobblers hammers... My Mentor Dan sent me an email and said it was part of a tool set from the late 50's -60's Thanks very much!!!!
I wish man cave well and hope your kidney stones have gone, I bought one of those wire brushes in a set with rotary brushes and was amazed at how good it was.My one was a Chinese knock off but compared to the wooden wire brushes was far superior. I have just sent off for a box of 24 for £20. The hand vice was used before TH-cam and the web, men had time on their hands and made things like whirligigs and weather vanes while sitting in the armchair, so you needed a small vice to hold the wire or tin sheets. It now looks good enough for surgeons to use in operations it is so shiny.
Hi Tony! Yes! These style brushes are really nice!! You're right about the popularity of the hand vises years back, once the vise grip was introduced you didn't see to many hand vises selling! LOL Thanks!!!!!
Hello John! NO EVERYONE!!! I will have a link if you just want to send in a photo but if you do a TH-cam video we all copy/paste it on TD's page! Thanks!!!!!!
With the sand-cast finish it could be held in the hand with much effort, even in a greasy hand. Now, not so much. Why didn't you straighten the through bolt? Ruined another one, any value it had is now gone on the grinder, like so many others. But, it is shiny.
Are they really making an imitation of that brush? I mean the original is already a plus product on amazon here in Germany with a price of only 4.30€ (4.80 US$).... I think it's the same thing as it was with my Occidental Leather electricians pouch. Amazon global store, all in all round about 140€ (~160 US$) with taxes, tariffs and so on (in case of Amazon global store UPS is doing that for the customer). In the US on Amazon it is 115 US$. But it came very fast from the US over here...sent on Monday March 4th from Louisville (KY), arrived here on Wednesday March 6th.
It's funny how certain products don't make it across the pond for retail sales. These Spid brushes are very nice and I've yet to see one for sale here. The knock-offs are terrible! Years ago we had a company called Fuller Brush Company and men would go door to door selling brushes! They were fantastic quality but not cheap. They did well for many years because their reputation was impeccable. =)
LOL- No, just about 2 weeks is enough to get people going! If you make it too long away people think "I've got plenty of time and never get to it in time! LOL Procrastination! I am king of it! =D Thanks!
Yes! Those brushes are low priced in Europe but not seen in stores here, If you buy in bulk you can get a decent deal but shipping brings the price up! Good brushes!!!!!!!

LOL I have a knee hammer! It is shaped like a triangle and RED hard rubber! Very cool! =) Thanks!
@@ScoutCrafter can do. I started restoring the Eagle Rainbow and the Italian one a couple weeks ago.
Hi George! Can you see this link? www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B4HNC1G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks for the link. I found those but I'm looking for stainless for TIG welding. Thanks for the help though!
Very awesome scout best wishes to your friend hope he knocks that nasty mess right out I can't wait to see your oil can :D
I loved the mishmash today. Good stuff! You're the only person I've heard say that some "brass" wire brushes are actually brass coated steel. Why would they make that product and do they tell you on the packaging? I could see damaging something if I assumed it was brass.
Me too! I think it's just a protective coating and selling point! =) They are awesome brushes! =) Thanks!
Hi Aaron! Cliff made a whole toolbox full of miniature tools! Cool!!!! bicycleguy@aol.com Thanks!!!!
Is there any hand tool that you only one of.
That Monkey Wrench took skill and patience 😮lol👌🏼✅
Hey Scout crafter Great video I think next time I see one of those hand Vices I will pick it up 👍
Hi Ben! Joe from Joe's shop got a very similar one in BRASS! He did an awesome restoration on it! Thanks!
Kennedy half and a Washinton quarter!
Awesome Scout your funny
IS it possible that it's some sort of upholstery hammer? It's so petite, I imagine one would use finesse when using it.
Hello Matthew! My mentor Dan contacted me and said these came in a "Tool Kit" from the 50's and 60's... Oddly enough he showed me an example on eBay that was missing the hammer! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!
Very good restoration bro 👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much!!!!!!
Hey Scout! That a cobblers hammer?
Hi Andrew! No, I have a couple cobblers hammers... My Mentor Dan sent me an email and said it was part of a tool set from the late 50's -60's Thanks very much!!!!
I like mish mosh Monday’s lol
Thanks Brad!!!!!
So sorry about your friend. I am going yard sale hunting this weekend and I hope to add to my working tools. B K.
I’ll take almost any European tool over a Chinese tool if given the chance to choose.
Oh Yeah! Taiwan and Japan are much better than Chinese... Afghanistan and India are low quality too. =)
Dear John. I am sorry about my shortage in US daily language. I would like to know the meaning of "mish mash". Thanks in advance
The English used to lead in watchmaking a long time ago. Blessings for healing for our friends,
Hi John! They were tops in so many fields... I hate to see all the jobs go overseas now!!!! Thanks!!
Thanks for telling about Spid brushes. Just ordered six.
I really think you will like them! I wish I could get an assortment of their other brushes! Brass, Nylon, Stainless... Thanks!!!!!!!
Hi Scout, I can send you pics of the wing nut/bolt and receiver if you would like to see them.
Hello John! Please do! bicycleguy@aol.com
@@ScoutCrafter should be there momentarily.
Cool video !!!:-)
Thanks Krum!!!!!
The vice seems kinda useless to me. No disrespect. Great restoration as usual. Take care Scout Crafter.
They were very popular years back but like the alligator wrench I have yet to find people that use them! =D Thanks!
can anyone get in the chalenge? or do you have to have a channel?
TD's oil can challenge...1st April..is there a clue in the date?
No Paul. Date chosen at random I'm guessing, unless ScoutCrafter knows something we don't?😉
LOL- No, just about 2 weeks is enough to get people going! If you make it too long away people think "I've got plenty of time and never get to it in time! LOL Procrastination! I am king of it! =D Thanks!
Don't pull a nail with that beautiful hammer the neck will bend may even snap? A+
Spid brush 12$ !? Here in my country you can buy one 1.5 $ each ...the original one Made in Italy ...I've got two of these..👍
Yes! Those brushes are low priced in Europe but not seen in stores here, If you buy in bulk you can get a decent deal but shipping brings the price up! Good brushes!!!!!!!
Love the Intro with the Flag! Check out Grace Ally Flags. On Amazon over 10,000 reviews 5 stars! Murica!!!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
WHAT IS THIS? A WRENCH FOR ANTS????
It might make a great tie tack.
Lol. You should see the crescent wrench I made.
LOL Allan, He has a whole set this size! Hammer, Crescent, pliers... even a tool belt! Sweet!
I guess you could say he made them for CARPENTER ANTS?????? Guys? Guys? Okay, I'll see myself out.
