Thanks for sharing the video. Pretty pair of mares. Look like a pair Percheron mares my Grandpa had years ago.

Thank you, sir! I feel the same way as you. I prefer mules myself. I kept horses just to raise mule colts with. But now I am completely out of the horse business, and just own mules. Thank you for such kind words, and thank you for taking time to watch and comment. Take care, and do come again, please!

    So what purpose is reins

For me, my mouth is primary means of turning and my lines are secondary. Just there in case they don’t mind me or listen. But everyone has their own style of driving too. Personally I like mine to listen to me and mind me by voice. It has helped me several times farming and logging. Thanks for watching and commenting

Why go from horses to mules

    • @zachodommulelogging

I have several reason, but the main thing is my feed bill. Mules consume half of what similar sized horses will. And at the current time I don’t have a lot of pasture. I prefer mules for working also. The way the around in the woods and they work a little slower more methodical. These are just a few reasons. I kept mares to raise colts. That’s hard business! My logging business has steadily picked up, so it made more sense to keep mules for me. But everyone’s situation is a little different. Also, bred mares and logging doesn’t work too good. You have to ask to much out of em logging for them to safely carry a foal. So, that sorta sealed my decision. But I do love both animals. I’ve just always preferred a mule for day in and out work.
