Nice custom for future reference is right channel radios sells a mount that goes into the stake holes in the top of the bed rails I had one in my dodge with a cover installed
What I did was Drill baby drill. mounted a Wilson 5000 Antenna onto the roof and never looked back. no muss, no fuss, no water leaks and my SWR is 1.00 flat covering 90 % of the 40 channels. no fears on drilling. at car washes or low roof entry, remove antenna and cap.
There should be a ground screw on the back of the radio, just run a wire to the frame rail or some the attached to it. Also if your getting electrical noise from the truck like alternator whine, put some ferrite beads on EVERYTHING….LOL
Should have just bought a Magnet Mount and be done with this. One last thing, I would have a Inline Fuse somewhere between the Power source and the radio.

why don't you mount at the front-end of your truck I may have missed your reason for that if not that would solve all the functionality issues and allow for a more parallel mount with less interference.
Thanks for sharing this..! I’ve been thinking about something like this.. Your solution is great..Have a good one.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Those third brake light mounts are slick but EXPENSIVE !!
Where do you get those third brake light mounts ?
@@jamesmcgee2447 from a company called bulletproof diesel. They run you about 350 bucks😩

Wondering why you decided to angle back the entenae. Straight vertical gives you better signal and range.

Good video. 👍

Great idea !
😂😂😂
They make a stake hole bracket for those with bed covers or campers. I have them on mine and works great.
If anyone is old enough to remember Dragnet, he could be the voice of it lol
Hey! Awesome install! Can you tell me what antenna you used? It’s exactly what I need.
Thank you! The antenna is a 3’ firestick off amazon
Maybe you could have angled the antenna left to right instead of front to back?? I ASSUME you did that to provide garage door clearance?
Looks good.Keeping the antenna back away from the glass probably helped the SWR.
Doesn’t it need to be grounded as well?
I would hope the mounting bolts to the Bed would be sufficient.

What’s that toad from ???
😂 Futurama’s Hypno-toad!
IM SORRY THAT YOU PAINTED THE BAR SUPPORTING THE ANTENNA BRACKET. YOU NEED AN ELECTRICAL GROUND-COUNTERPOISE. THIS GIVES A GROUND PLANE EFFECT

Can’t with newer f150 and up…aluminum body panels throughout

The closer to the center of the vehicle, the better the ground plane. Better reception. Better transmission.
Move the mount to the rear between the bed and the tailgate.
Put it straight up it look better
This is exactly how I fabricate projects.
Trust me you’ll be taking that crap off your truck. There’s only about 100 better ways to manage antenna😂😂
I tried to make a comment but I just can’t Dumb myself Down enough to comment on this nonsense Good luck.
