      People who work for investment firm get you to invest through networking. So the method is not uncommon. The thing that surprised with such an investment they didn't do their homework with the individual.

      It's greed mixed with ignorance. It's no different than the Bernie Madoff situation. I'm not Warren Buffett, but when it comes to me investing my money, I've ALWAYS followed one rule: if I don't understand it, I don't do it. Go read up who Boomer Esiason, former QB for the Bengals and Jets, was able to avoid being scammed by Madoff simply due to one thing: he asked Bernie to explain how it is that he's getting such great returns and when Bernie didn't give him an answer he could understand, he said no thanks!

    Blows my mind Linkedin doesn't have a feature to let people verify their profile with their work email so other users can be sure the person they're talking to is legit. Other professional networking platforms already do this. Get with the program, Microsoft. It's not that hard 🤦‍♂️

    • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
      @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What do you mean "verify the person is legit"? What does "legit" mean in this case and what steps would you take?
      Look, at the end of the day, there's a sucker born every minute and there's only so much a company can do. I've said this before and I'll say it again: just put your money in a fund that matches the S&P 500 Index. Over any 30 year block of time, it averages 10% interest, WHICH BEATS 90% OF ACTIVELY MANAGED FUNDS!! Why would anyone want to then get involved with some get rich quick scheme that they don't understand is beyond me. Even if it's a legit crypto account, you wouldn't see me investing my life's savings in crypto. But they hear stories of people becoming super wealthy and think it'll happen to them too. People also win the lotto, just not you!

    • @LynRuiz
      @LynRuiz ปีที่แล้ว +8

      A scammer can also have a work email. Scammers open up LLC‘s , commercial companies, networking, and sometimes they are “subsidiaries” of popular profitable entities. Many domain names are owned by scammers already so there’s no way to truly know this and less you use the Internal Revenue Service or a private BC service that verifies employment via multiple sources. This means that you would have to comply with the fair credit reporting act, and the employment act which means that LinkedIn would have to act as an employer/creditor since they are offering a service and they would be liable for so many other issues in order to be able to basically run full LEXIS-NEXIS and credit checks on people just to have a LinkedIn account.

To this day, I have a laundry list of random people requesting my friendship on Facebook that I’ve ignored until I get around to deleting them. That’s what i was told when I was in college but trust me, many recent graduates got good jobs without being on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is just another Facebook. People who make their profiles public don’t understand the dangers they are putting themselves in, scammers can take their information and create fake Facebook and Instagram accounts, they can steal their identities and talk to other people and scam other people using those people’s real data from LinkedIn. Once you make your information public on social media or LinkedIn you are doomed, It will be shared on other websites such as beenVerified, Radaris, Intellilus etc . There are scammers from all over the world especially from India and China.

As a society we are becoming more and more accustomed to not ask questions or question anything and has removed our ability to critically think. They know if they can work on a single or handful of scams at once and make you money they can then take your trust and confidence in them to nefarious levels.
    Small business owners are the major target because they tend to have a good amount of assets to work with.

    Given how much some people were scammed, is it accurate to conclude that people don't need to be intelligent to make good money? Honestly I have plenty of people reaching out to me on Linkedin, text messages, etc who pretend to be someone else. I regularly talk to scammers online wasting their time and effort. lol. it's actually pretty fun on some days. I could understand some seniors may fall for scams but middle age adults?... oh lord.

    • @LaSophiaMichael

      Your comment is pretty insensitive. Just bc someone might have a lot more trust and fall victim doesn't make them unintelligent. There are many ways intelligence is measured.

    • @Steven-xf8mz

      @@LaSophiaMichael listen to yourself. How much brainwashing do you have to go through to get from "stupidity" to "a lot of trust." I admire your positive attitude toward life but you gotta get a reality check in things. Whenever at end of the scam, ppl reflect back on the events, they go like "signs were there." Insensitive as it may be the facts are some ppl should be much smarter than this. Ppl who can be scammed as such as likely the very same type of ppl who can get their company hacked. Most of these scams involves wire transfer money to an account that's somehow owned by an unknown brokerage/banks.

    • @goonerOZZ

      @@LaSophiaMichael well if you actually spend some time on these scams, just follow their instructions just to see where they want to go, it's actually a very smart way to shift out the smart ones and pick out the less intelligent ones.
      These scams are targeting the most gullible of us. They never really exploit our willing to trust, they actually exploit our greed.
      I almost fell for one of these scams because I wanted a Nintendo Switch so bad, so bad that I thought I got a very very very good deal.
      I have my personal checkmark list to shift out scams, but I almost threw them all out because I really really really wanted to have a Nintendo Switch. Luckily I come to my senses in the last minute, and this seller was ticking everything that indicate that it's a scam.
      So for me, you can turn into becoming the dumb one when they can fish that greed out of you.

    • @mandisaw
      @mandisaw ปีที่แล้ว +5

      FBI & SEC published a brief recently - mostly it's ppl in their 30s-50s who fall for these "investment" scams, especially in crypto. Perfect combo of old enough to have money, but young enough to not be savvy with it, plus often desperate to make more, quickly, either for fun or retirement.
      Seniors were more likely to fall for long-cons, like romance scams, or fraud from someone they actually knew IRL.
