This qualitative study examined state hiring experiences in the context of civil service hiring laws. It addresses the implications of findings in the context of potential improvements to public health workforce recruitment and retention.

Presentation Title: Innovative Workforce Development Strategies to Address Recruitment and Public Health Partnerships
Innovative approaches to public health workforce recruitment, retention, and partnerships are needed in order to strengthen and sustain governmental public health workforce capacity and ensure a functional and effective public health system and infrastructure. Building on prior work, this
study assesses the aims, outcomes, and lessons learned from existing innovative workforce strategies in accredited health departments via qualitative interviews with leadership and human resources personnel.
