Another quick tip, if you're using cheap instant coffee or just a bitter coffee in general - add a pinch of salt. Salt overpowers the bitter taste receptors in your tongue and actually masks bitterness better than sugar does. This also works if you over extract your coffee.

I stumbled upon this again by accident after months and I'd like to say, the cold water thing changed the game for me. Thank you. Instant coffee is good now
The cold water thing doesn't do anything in practice and after thinking about it. . . Yeah, why would it? You extract 100% of the flavor when you dissolve instant coffee, it doesn't matter if it's cold or hot. By definition, this is what you're doing. By adding cold water all you are doing is lowering the overall temp of the coffee so that you can taste more of the nuance in the flavor. If you're experienced with cupping you'll know this phenomenon. Too hot of water is a problem if you're able to over extract from say, coffee grounds, as hot water is more efficient at dissolving flavor and you might go too far and get bad flavor. But this is literally impossible with pre-brewed and freeze dried (AKA instant) coffee. Literally, just think about it for like 5 seconds and you'll see what I mean (or try brewing once each way but taste them when they are the same temperature - there's no difference in flavor)
Considering that James has advertised Cometeer multiple times on his channel and is about to run a nationwide cupping session using only Cometeer pods, my guess is his thoughts on this would be pretty positive!

I’ve been drinking Cometeer daily for about a year and a half now. It’s great. The first time I tried it my expectations were not super high, but I was impressed. They feature about 1-2 dozen roasters from around the country, and they have good light/medium/dark roast options. They come 8 pods to a box, and 4 boxes per package (typically). They also have very good half-caf and decaf selections. And it comes out to around $2/cup, which is significantly less than the $4-$5 I was spending on an americano every day (never mind the $5-$8 additional on a pastry). I never thought I would stop going to a coffee shop every day, but Cometeer was enough to make it happen!
What’s a lot of money, @johan4989? $2/cup? Bro you’re watching a TH-cam video called “specialty instant coffee.” You’d think the “specialty” part would clue you in that were not talking about a $25-cent product.

yeah, that sounds like many of the myths that seem to be pervasive in food/cooking. the temperature of the water affects coffee extraction, meaning you could end up with a more bitter brew with the same beans if you use a relatively hotter temp. but this doesn’t apply for instant coffee which is already completely extracted and freeze dried.
@@despraterado588 stop and think about it. Then if you still aren't convinced, google it. This isn't even remotely contentious: there are studies where people claim they can tell the difference but when there is a blindfolded test they literally can't.
It’s not meant in a sense of catching fire. It’s more like the taste will be bad because of certain chemical components present in the coffee will decompose at higher temperature, thus creating sense of a burnt flavour.
Generally it’s recommended to use water at 90-96 degrees Celsius for methods like instant or French press coffee to avoid that burnt taste, so anything over 96 is risking making the flavour worse, similar to if you made green tea with boiling water. You can also get burnt or unpleasant flavours if you overextract your coffee with any method of coffee making, or oversteep your Frenchpress or pour-over coffees. Over extraction and under extractionis a tough one for people with espresso machines because they really have to learn to tamp their grounds just right so it tastes and pours properly, or you can buy specialty tamps that guarantee the coffee to be tamped perfectly.
I'm absolutely the same,@@AerysBat, I'm not usually a fan of hot drinks so I go for iced coffee all the way. but when i do have hot coffee I only make it to be a nice drinkable temp
It’s…it’s just a guy talking about coffee…why does that upset you? In fact, if it upsets you this much, why did you even stick around long enough to make a comment?

Finally, some good fucking coffee youtubers. 99% would write off instant coffee as worthless (as even I use a Keurig with preground), but you approach it as a legitimate source of coffee, as so many in the real world do.
Instant coffee is better than kuerig. The kuerig doesn't brew any coffee right. I wouldn't waste my coffee in that machine, when it's just as easy to French press.

Love your tips and clips. Instant coffee seems to react with my like Drano does in a sink...I'm running as soon as I'm done with the cup so I don't take it camping and use a travel French Press while hiking. I'll try these to see if I can lighten my load out or...not

I like using 70c water. It only needs to dissolve the coffee and be pleasantly warm.
I'm absolutely the same,@@AerysBat, I'm not usually a fan of hot drinks so I go for iced coffee all the way. but when i do have hot coffee I only make it to be a nice drinkable temp
They even make instant coffee insufferable. Truly amazing breed coffee fanatics are
It’s…it’s just a guy talking about coffee…why does that upset you? In fact, if it upsets you this much, why did you even stick around long enough to make a comment?
What was insufferable about this
Great tips! Will have to try if ever have the need for instant coffee
Mmm, comes richly flavored with onky the purest pretension
Thanks for the last tip. I typically do that too just so the coffee won't be too hot when filled with hot water.
Maybe I'm a philistine, but I love my powdered instant espresso from Italy. It even foams up like fresh espresso.
I’m hooked on instant coffee
Definitely can’t wait to try the cold water in the morning! Also I never thought about looking up other brands thanks!
Big fan of the coffee milk and sugar all in one sachet tbf 👍
after a while of adding cold water to instant coffee, I found out that cold instant coffee taste pretty good and now I rarely drink it hot.
With instant I always use drinking temprature water, you only really need to dissolve it in cold water first if you're using water off boil, but most of us coffee people have a thermostatically controlled kettle
One of the best horror games ive seen you play on here!
Love instant coffee.. those small cups look tasty.
This way, you don’t spend a mansions worth of equipment
I’ve had Cometeer and I highly recommend! So easy and delicious
Coffee isn't burned by pouring hot water on it, its burned by roasters roasting the sh*t out of it cause it gives it a longer shelf life
Chicory brings out flavor in coffee as well
Finally, some good fucking coffee youtubers.
Thank you for the advice ❤
And here I thought that instant coffee was supposed to be a commoner's coffee.
Hit like if you get the reference.
SO BADASS! Great advice!
I forgot about the cold water before hot water trick! Thank you!
onyx coffee is headquartered where i live! love to see them getting the hype they deserve
Saline is a game changer for instant coffee!
Holy hell, these look comfy. I don't even drink coffee anymore (at least 3 years since I even had a bottled gas station one), but it makes me want to again
where i live we proccess fresh green coffee beans into powder and start making coffee in home and its by far my favourite method and the only one i like really
Imma eat all of these on the concentrated version thank you.
Specially the Onix one, gonna chug that shiz
A new way of making instant coffee I learned from TH-cam shorts is mix some milk to your instant coffee then place it in the microwave to heat it up and finally add the hot water. It will keep your coffee hot for longer and the milk/instant coffee mixture is pure heaven!
Its confirmed potheads amd coffee makers are the same thing
Love your tips and clips. Instant coffee seems to react with my like Drano does in a sink...I'm running as soon as I'm done with the cup so I don't take it camping and use a travel French Press while hiking. I'll try these to see if I can lighten my load out or...not
Have you seen the Stanley portable French press/cup?
@@Psilomuscimol yes I do. I also have a single wall stainless steel French Press for use on the camp fire and stove
The ouran highschool host club goin wild rn
cold water first is news to me. 40 years old drinking coffee since i was like 14 lol
At first I thought that coffee "chunk" was made out of metal. ☕ 🔩🔧
As an Italian this video is proof that many people have no idea of what a real coffee cup taste and look like
Cool tips about the cold water first, thanks bro.
You should try Luminous instant coffee! Only instant coffee I've ever liked. They also have amazing specialty roasted coffee.
I’ve been drinking cometeer for over a year now, I highly recommend it!
You keep saying "specialty coffee" as if there is a recognized difference and not something you just made up to keep repeating in your TH-cam short. (This was a Specialty Comment)
Wanna know a fun fact?
There actually IS quite a noticable difference.
I dont even drink coffee but they seem great for an instant pick-me-up, especially that onyx brew concentrate
As far as I am aware, boiling water doesn’t burn things. It’s not hot enough for combustion. But I would love to see some tests with the two different methods of brewing instant to get to the bottom of it
I am fine with cheap instant coffee by its self in cold water...
Since i discovered honey coffee is a thing i no longer use sugar.
Im brewing dark coffee now... then a little heavy whipping cream.. yummy.
Thanks for the last tip.
Idk who needs to hear this but Nespresso is fancy instant coffee
Nescaffe frappe is the goat of instant coffees!
Only instant I can do is the nestle espresso. Very fine powder, tastes decent and good for iced coffee drinks.
