CIOL Online Conference 2024 - Duolingo

A fascinating talk from CIOL's Online Conference: Bozena Pajak, PhD, Vice President of Learning and Curriculum at Duolingo, presented “The science of language learning and what millions of Duolingo learners have taught us”.
How is it that adults struggle to learn a language while children do so effortlessly? Dr. Pajak discussed the complexities of language, how humans manage to learn it, and what we can do to optimise second and additional language teaching. She shared insights from the Duolingo data across the learning app and the high-stakes Duolingo English Test that have improved outcomes for both test takers and casual learners alike.
Dr. Bozena Pajak leads the Learning Science and Design team at Duolingo and works at the intersection of learning science, pedagogy, and product development. She earned her PhD in Linguistics from the University of California, San Diego, and was a postdoctoral fellow in Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Rochester.
