It blows my mind that Tarsem Singh doesn’t get more jobs directing. While his films haven’t always been box office gold, his sense of style and his eye for visual splendor is unwavering.
Because pretty is all he got. Between all the visual splendor his movies are vapid and lifeless and in consequence utterly boring. He is a terrible storyteller who is all style and zero substance. Make him a director of photography or have him lead the art department under more capable directors, but he is not the right guy to helm an entire movie.
@@memento81 You know that he only "co-wrote" The Fall, right? If the dialogues or story is vague, it's not his fault. They go to him with a script and say "direct this" and he does that.
This movie is kind of a hidden gem but it has such a bizarre surreal tone and plot so either you love it or you don't. Personally, it is probably my favorite movie ever and I cried several times while watching it due to the moving story
@@Emy-fv5ny imdb says: In a hospital on the outskirts of 1920s Los Angeles, an injured stuntman begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl with a broken arm, a fantastic story of five mythical heroes. Thanks to his fractured state of mind and her vivid imagination, the line between fiction and reality blurs as the tale advances. I say: It's a tale where adult self-pity meets a child's imagination and one of them wins
I’m a year late to this video but oh my god this movie is criminally underrated. The dueling storylines between reality and fiction and how one influences the other was a brilliant storytelling device. Lee Pace’s acting is on point as well as that little girls. The effects and visuals are breathtaking. This movie beautiful and it makes hope Tarsem Singh can make a comeback film someday.
I’ve watched this movie four times now and I intend to watch it over and over again as long as I live. What a masterpiece. No matter how many times I’ve seen it I always cry at the end. A truly beautifully done movie.
It is a seriously beautiful movie. Sight. Sound. But what pulls me in again and agin, is the story. When you first discover what's really happening (more than once), it changes your entire perspective of what's happening. And redemption. And friendship and love between a little kid and a grown man. A film that takes three viewings just to understand how deep it is, is a great film. It is one of my very few perfect movies: "Come and See" "Casablanca"
The Fall is my favorite film for Cinematography!! Beautiful! How this did not win any prestigious awards for cinematography, confuses me. Maybe people feel that Tarsem is pretentious?
You left out the best part of 1:54 with that crossfade. When I saw this movie for the first time and that happened, I literally shouted "HOW THE FUCK DID THEY DID THAT?!" so loud that my neighbor in the apartment next to me heard me.
A few days ago I watched this beautiful movie and it became my favorite movie. I loved what the director did with each character and the place where he filmed.
The "artsy-fartsy" excuse some ignorant critics use then talk highly of other artsy-fartsy movies like Anorofsky's and Kubrick's for comparison just to disparage Tarsem's The Fall and accusing Tarsem of being pretentious were the most hilarious moment for me during reading reviews of the movie. At least the art in The Fall doesn't feel random.
I just love the storytelling and cinematography of this movie. My mother's all-time favorite film is The Princess Bride, so hopefully she'll love this one!
It’s almost not fair, because so many shots in this film would be big set pieces for any other movie. So beautiful! This made me want to watch it again :,)
I wish Criterion would pick this up and reissue a BluRay version, along with all of the extras Criterion is known for. This movie is more than worthy, in my opinion.
Thank you for making this one. Some time ago I'd requested it, among a few others: Cold Mountain, Snow Falling On Cedars, Tous Les Matins Du Monde, The Bounty, The Duelists, Legend, The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen, Brazil, Baraka, etc.
The iconic locations: Charles Bridge, Prague; the Red Fort, India, etcetera - woven into a concept as delightful and intimate as this hasn’t ever been so beautifully achieved IMHO
The fall and The Cell should be on Criterion Collection 4k with the Japanese poster for The Cell cover. Just visionary filmmaking although they both are not for all tastes and hard to watch.
I loved your analysis!! I hadn't noticed the recurring symbolism in some parts, and it seem slike it's time to watch it again :D Mh, also wanted to say, while browsing youtube for more shots of this movie (wanted to share it with someone), it seems like Rendan Lovell has an analysis of this movie that really has a lot in common with your video (but with a lot of Star Wars added to it). Yours is vastly superior, though.
Personally it's my favorite film. The story is nothing new, but it could be heartbreaking. And be ready that most of those beautiful visuals are happening in characters' heads.
Some suggestions: Vox Lux, The Holy Mountain (you’ll have fun with that one), Marie Antoinette, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Assassination Nation. Good work 👍

great video, adding this movie to my list :)
This movie- is absolute gold. The rarest and most obscure diamond. I do not understand at all why it is not as popular as it should be.
Since some years ago, it's unavailable on any streaming service
Same but I also kind of like that it’s not popular or well known [: it makes it even more special.
It's not a great movie. Singh tends to make very hokey films. It is, however, absolutely beautiful. As a visual filmmaker he is second to none.
@@INFEDnoX I disagree

the most beautiful movies i've ever seen, masterpiece of it's own kind.
Wasn’t this the film that had its film locations in over 20 countries and took 4 years to make?
yes!
It was 8 years I believe

I cried too haha It's not a movie I would normally pick based on the description but it's now my all time favorite movie. So glad I found it!!
I've watched this movie 5 times within one year and I've been noticing new details every single time
What is it about?

It's absolutely amazing!! It's so beautiful and emotionally powerful!
It’s a remake of a Bulgarian film called Yo Ho Ho.

I’m so sad that this movie is so underrated, it’s a masterpiece!
Great video, thanks
The soundtracks are divine. I love the sound editing of this movie, making this movie sounds like a dream.
As Fincher said: "Like Tarkovsky remaking The Wizard of Oz"
Interestingly enough, this guy also remade “The Wizard of Oz”. I haven’t seen it, but he did the “Emerald City” series.

can't believe this doesn't receive more recognition, truely a fabulous film, one of the most visually pleasing films ever!
In the running for the most beautiful film ever made. Blows my mind how few people have seen this.
Saw it in theaters back in 2008. Cried at the opening credits. Cried at the end credits. Cried all the way in between.
