How to resurrect Man Utd, why so Spurssy, ‘lucky’ Wenger and Pogba returns | Three Up Front

  • Should Manchester United copy Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City to get back to the top? Why are Tottenham so flimsy? Would you take Paul Pogba at your club now and was Arsene Wenger a lucky manager?
Those are the topics on this week’s Three Up Front with Simon Jordan, Graeme Souness and Troy Deeney.
With United’s executives meeting this week and possibly deciding on Erik Ten Hag’s future, Simon gives his insight on what might be going through their minds while Graeme wonders if there’s enough football knowledge at the club.
Tottenham’s latest capitulation leads them to ask why that has been the case for so long and Troy reveals whether players think they are a soft touch. Also, would James Maddison get into any of the top three and does Ange Postecoglu need to liven up a bit in his post match interviews?
Graeme gets an opportunity to discuss one of his favourite subjects - Paul Pogba - as the they debate whether they would sign him after his doping ban was reduced. Also in Graeme’s line of fire is, of all people, Arsene Wenger: was he a great manager or just very lucky?
And with top players complaining about the increasing number of matches they’re being asked to play, Troy explains why he would vote not to strike.

To call Wenger lucky, is to not reflect on what he did for Arsenal. Admittedly, was able to leverage the French market when clubs didn’t have the data and foreign scouting network of today. That Arsenal team (Henry, Bergkamp, Pires etc.) played the best football I’ve seen in the Premier League. The title haul reflects the fact his unbelievable transfer dealings and profits on players paid for the Emirates. He built infrastructure that will serve the club for the next century and sacrificed his legacy for that club.

I didn't watch yet but what the hell is the title saying? Wenger is not a football man? He is 'lucky'? Did you guys turn mad or something?
Wenger has built the best football in England when the English teams used to just "kick and rush", including my own beloved Man Utd.
Wenger has won the only invincible title of the history of the league. He has permitted Arsenal to build a bloody stadium. He had to compete with Mourinho and SAF and their almost unlimited budget with his very limited one, and he did brilliantly. With his small money, he has kept building the best passing football I have ever seen (yes because Pep's is utterly boring). In 2011 Barcelone had only lost one single game, battering every single team they faced (again including my beloved MU), the only game they lost was against Wenger's youngsters in the CL. And Wenger would have gone through them if not for a shameful refereeing. And you call that man lucky? Seriously?
I honestly believe that Wenger is the second greatest manager in the history of the Premier League. And he's on contrary very unlucky, because if Arsenal didn't had to build a bloody stadium, he would have had much more money and would have had battered the league. Big respect from a United fan.

      Well said! 👏🏼
Agree with everything; regarding the ‘luck’ or lack thereof, this is why I admire Arsène- the banks only agreed to loan Arsenal the money if Arsène remained in charge.
He knew they wouldn’t have the money to splash and would have to sell players but he took the hit because he loved the club. He knew he would have to turn down any opportunities because of this stadium.
He got criticism from all corners and held carried himself with grace and dignity.
I’ll always remember his farewell speech- his first words were to Sir Alex who was ill at the time, wishing him not only a speedy recovery but a full recovery.
With the tribute for him at Old Trafford- those two were really a class act!
      (Most of the time! lol)

He played Barcelone, Milan, Bayern, so many times in the round of eight. And he always put a honorable fight with teams of youngsters. Souness being miserable and bitter as usual. People often only think of Wenger's Arsenal only. He won title and cups with Monaco (cheated out on about two by OM) clubs in france and Japan. To say such man is not a football man or "lucky" is someone trying to console himself of his own miserable life.

Agree to some degree about AW… he was fantastic till 2010… after that he declined… it happened with lot of managers. Wenger was also very good in Monaco, won title with them and reached semi finals of champions league. On the other hand Souness is sour man who was lucky that Newcastle hierarchy and other clubs gave him job…

Wenger and Mourinho didn't "decline"..... after 2007 construction of Emirates, Wenger ended up with very limited budget, therefore wasn't able to compete with top clubs on highest level anymore..... Mourinho very similar case, except Mourinho left Chelsea for much poorer clubs, therefore couldn't keep his initial success with those clubs in long run..... offcourse Guardiola is succuessful everywhere he goes, when he only managed top clubs with biggest budgets :D

@@LukasMatejka-du5hbwell thats is your and also mine subjetive view… mine is that they both declined… Mourinho after he was sacked at Chelsea and Wenger lost his spark at Arsenal… he could walk away, but he overstayed… that false narrative about little budget is complete rubbish… Arsenal agreed to pay bank for the stadium money 20 million pounds annum… for the club that big this amount of money were peanuts even in that period of time… Wenger just had his own view = relying on young footballers and not buying stars… that was big mistake, because many times Arsenal was short of two to three better players to be more competetive…

United actually placed a triophy in the cabinet last few seasons despite been awful on the pitch. We all know if it's United - Spurs in the Europa League near the end United are winning. Spurs are Spurs.
