G.E. is the definition of class! Once played in a blues band that was playing at a festival where he was also performing. Sat and smoked Henry Clay cigars and drank green tea with him and talked guitar nearly all day. Man is a kind hearted human with a true love, passion and respect for music and it’s history. Thanks for sharing!

Wow....this was over an hour of a gentleman that loves his passion and is so good with people. So much that you almost forget he was the machine that really gave Daryl Hall and John Oates their guitar sound. Truly fantastic. I absolutely loved the fact that he went to the back of room to show the guitars to them...total class.

Love G.E.! Seeing him rocking with EVH on SNL was amazing. My favorite G.E. moment of all time is his guitar solo during the "Out Of Touch" opener, Hall and Oates Liberty City concert 1985. He looks so happy and just in awe of playing for such a huge crowd. What a moment.

Command performance by G.E. absolutely fabulous. One thing not covered was the invention of a folding guitar with compensating tuning mechanism created by my old friend of 30 years, Roger C. Field. Sadly, Roger C. Field passed away in 2015. While designing passenger seats for the Airbus in 1975, Roger C. Field had the idea for a folding electric guitar, which he named "Foldaxe" for being able to be transported as hand luggage under an aircraft seat. Guitarist Chet Atkins inspired Field in 1975 to design a folding guitar without the string tension changing and going out of tune. Field addresses it by designing a mechanism hidden in the guitar which, once the guitar has been tuned, keeps the string tension constant when folding and unfolding.
Atkins appeared with Les Paul on television with the Foldaxe on Jane Pauley's The Today Show and on Entertainment This Week. Field appeared several times on television shows with the Foldaxe. The Foldaxe was reviewed in Industrial Design magazine, winning the Designers' Choice Award sponsored by I. D. in 1980. In 1980, industrial designer Raymond Loewy sent Field a letter congratulating him on the design of the Foldaxe. The Foldaxe was featured in Atkins's book Me and My Guitars. They have been played by Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Lenny Breau, Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin, Hank Marvin, Paul McCartney, David Copperfield, James Burton and Albert Lee.

G.E. Smith is on the same elite tier of musical artist as the most renowned stringed instrument virtuosos. He makes it all look so effortless. In the early 1980s, on lead guitar for the sold out Hall & Oates "Voices" arena tour, his playing was magnificent, infusing their catchy but mainstream pop sound with crackling solos and riffs. Not only memorable for his playing, but also for his joyful stage presence.

39:30 this is a wild thing to say since there are actually 13 notes when the first one and the last one are the same, so there are actually 12 notes.

3 million guitars built and sold per year!?! I don't see many that get thrown away so at this rate we'll be totally buried in guitars by 2040. 😂

Paul Bigby gets no respect for his first electric solid body guitar. And Leo started with guitar amps moving from radios before he made those lap steel.
