i have always like the apx. you can pick up a first gen reasonably cheap. it is a shame that they weren't more popular than they were. the optic ready slide should help the sales of the a1. if i needed another polymer striker fired handgun, i would pick one of these up.
I think they could have been really popular if Beretta kept up with the demand back when covid first happened. They sold pretty quickly whenever my uncle's gun store got them in stock, but getting more to restock took forever. It felt the same way at other stores and even big box retailers.
@@JacksonWalter735 Agreed! I wanted one and when I started looking I couldn't find them anywhere... I was checking the local sporting goods store and the local Sportsman's Warehouse. I finally found an APX A1 at the local farm and ranch store. You can get the gun and a plate for $400 if you shop the sales. For the quality of the gun, I think that is quite a remarkable price point.
Love my APX A1. Was not happy with the finish on the slide. Had it stripped and Cerakoted at my local gun shop. Felt like it was a major improvement with the way it looks. Over 700 rounds with 0 malfunctions. Great weapon.
Excellent review. I've been a Beretta fan for years, and I can't see why the APX line isn't more popular. The "back to back they faced each other" rhyme brought back memories of childhood.
Bought one a couple weeks ago because I enjoy my Gen 1 Centurion version, honestly the Toblerone look never bothered me, but the A1 trigger is a lot better than the Gen 1
If the APX was 599 or 650, I would expect a free plate like what Walther or other companies do. You can get this pistol for $400! I can’t complain about a $50 plate.
I never owned a gun as accurate and reliable as this one yes the A1 update, it depends on people, but the feel and accuracy is just amazing my hands 🙌 just fit on it perfectly
The APX A1 is a definite sleeper in the world of crowded polymer/striker-fired handguns. I've fired one, but have yet to buy one. It's every bit as accurate and reliable as the APX Centurion, which I own and really like.
Man, I gotta quit watching your videos. You tested a SA 1911, I bought one. Love it! You reviewed Walther PDP, I bought one. REALLY like it! Now I may have check out this Beretta... To your defense, the ones I bought due to your reviews are excellent choices.
The biggest problem with the A1 right now is the lack of holster options. I love the gun, even more then the original APX, but I'm starting to regret picking it up just because I can't find a holster that I like.
I really wanted to own a gen1 APX. I liked the looks and tire-lug slide design seemed like it'd be better in wet or cold conditions. The A1 trigger and optic-ready design seems to an improvement for those who use red dots. Unfortunately, I live in the fair-weather state of California, where I cannot own either.
The new APX A1 has the new Beretta APX Reduced Lighter Striker Pin Assembly. I replaced my new APX A1 with a Galloway Precision 22lb Guide Rod Assembly, & the Galloway Precision Stainless Steel Striker Pin Assembly. This has greatly improved the quality & reduced the trigger weight pull. Next I’ve installed the Burris Fastfire 4 Red Dot Optics, which I did install a Beretta Burris Optics Plate. It’s a nail driver, Hammer 🔨 now💥💥💥 Outstanding Home Defense Weapon. Italian work of art 👍
Nice review. And I agree that $50 for an optic plate is crazy, at least Walther with the PDP gives you one for free. Looks like a good gun but maybe not a great gun, as you said, there are more options out there that are better.
I bought one. Had to send it back to Beretta to have the slide refinished. It came back perfect, but it took 3 months. It did not come with a manual and could not get it apart to clean. Beretta did not address this on return. Finally a Swiss TH-camr offered a suggestion that worked. Probably a good gun but my experience soured me on the company.
The APX and now the A1 are some of the most underrated pistols available. Great ergos and reliability at a fantastic price point. Gotta ask, what type of sunglasses are those?
"There are better values out there." Justin, what specific alternatives do you suggest? FYI, I'm seeing listings for the APX A1 in the $430-450 range, which seems like a solid bargain for a full-size Beretta.
Great review. My husband and purchased the Beretta APX A1 full size. It's a great handgun. Your correct on the price for the Red Dot mounting plate,$50.00 is pricey. We can't find a review on your channel for the Walther PDP F series'pistol. We just purchased that handgun as well and definitely will get a second one. It's a great defensive concealed carry handgun. We're extremely interested in your opinion 😀. Thanks for the great videos.
I didn't think I was brutal at all. I like the gun a lot (as I did the predecessor), but there are negatives, which I felt were important to call out. Sorry if it seemed brutal, but it was just my honest assessment.

Curious as to what made you pick the CZ over the new APX? I am looking at both as well. I'm a big CZ fan, but they have pretty much destroyed their LE/MIL program. I can get the new APX for about $100 less than the CZ and Beretta offers parts/mag discounts that are excellent. That is a big factor I am considering.
@@82lowe36id Its been 100% reliable, shoots insanely soft, ergonomics are like nothing else ive ever had in my hand. The APX i was considering at the time i purchased was the original one too without optic ready. Id likely still go with my cz though.
I had a p10c, didn't like that the irons where aluminum(lost finish pretty fast), rusted easily in the roll pins, polymer backplate was easy to move up in down in the back of the slide, and the grip was a little too aggressive on the corners. I toned it down a touch. Sold it and went with what I was originally going to get: the apx.
I really like that pistol looks so good. Resembles a bit of Walther's PDP and CZ P10 in regard to its grip angle and style. I only wish they used a bolt on the frame optic system like FN and Taurus does.
I have the original APX and really like it. I don't see enough difference in the A1 to purchase it. The $50 optic plate thing doesn't surprise me in the least. I get the Berretta catalogue in the mail and the prices are ridiculous. I still love my old 92 Centurion and got a great deal on my APX but otherwise not a huge fan of the oldest gun company in the world. Great review JO.
$450 is ridiculous for a quality striker fired pistol? You know the catalog only shows the MSRP? I have the older APX and got the new A1 when my local shop had it for $425 and they were covering tax during a sale. I like both and the benefit to me for the A1 was to have an option to add a red dot, which I immediately threw on a Burris FF3 that I found for $150 new. So for around $600 I got a pistol I am confident would go up against any other on the market for quality and reliability.
I agree with you, again Beretta drops the ball by not supplying plates for red dot. Although slide looks good and they incorporated striker fire pin( competition spring) into apx a1. I still have my original apx full-size and centurion and I'm pleased. I made modifications to full-size by changing to wolfgray with black backstraps, fiber optics sights, recoil spring and striker fire spring( competition spring) looks awesome. I will be keeping my original. Great video and shooting.
Always appreciate your reviews Justin! The optics plate thing is starting to become more and more common but at $50 a plate I'd be a hard pass on this pistol! That's just too steep in my opinion. They should at least give you one for free...that fact is going to kill this newest offering from Beretta.
As a beretta fan I really wanted to like the APX. Unfortunately as you point out the slide is just absurdly thick and heavy. The very short pretravel and weak trigger return spring ended it for me as a carry pistol.
I think Beretta saw your video. The plates are $30 now. I'm enjoying mine. The proprietary thing with buying accessories is a pain but from what I'm seeing there's no gouging like Sig Sauer I can buy 2 17rd Beretta mags for the price of 1 Sig mag (same manufacturer I think too). This pistol isn't getting the love it deserves. I find it slightly better than the Glock 17. The APX ergos are way better. If you handle one of these you'll likely buy one. Beretta has improved the prices on plates though still only available through them. But overall Im impressed with Beretta. Heck, Beretta had my mags in the mail in like 10-12hrs after ordering. If you're looking for the "Anti Glock" this may be the fugly duckling of a pistol for you. Im digging my A1 a lot.
The new one has the modular design a la the 320. I’d love to see an option for putting the Toblerone serration style slide on the new frame. (Not necessarily an old slide, though it’d be interesting to see if they can interchange like the magazines.)
I liked the original APX but there was always something else I liked or wanted just a little more. I’ve had my eyes on one of these new versions and the carry version at my LGS though. It would be more of a range/plinker than a carry gun for me since it looks closer to full size. Have you done reviews or any thoughts on the PX4 Storm by Beretta?
Hi Josh, thought I’d chime in here. He has done reviews of the full size PX4 which was then offered by Langdon Tactical. I myself have the Compact Carry version and love it. Great, underrated, guns.
Great review. I appreciate the distinctions made between the two versions. I also prefer the looks of the original slide and there was a red dot version of that slide which I would prefer if I had the option. I do have a suggestion for you regarding another Beretta review. Review the APX Carry again st the new APX A1 Carry. Many of the same differences but the trigger in the A1 Carry is supposed to be lighter/better than the original. That would be a very useful review.
Simply my two cents. I fake Beretta does not include the mounting plates because it would add to the cost of the gun initially. I purchased a couple blocks that came with all the mounting plates and paid extra for three extra plates that I didn't need. I don't have any problem with having to order the correct plate for whatever red dot you end up putting on. Also, it keeps the cost down for the individuals like myself who probably aren't going to mount anything on there.
The fact that the original and the A1 both have proprietary to Beretta dovetail sight cuts in the slide seems a bad idea considering aftermarket choices Its optics ready, so how many options for suppressor height sights is Beretta putting out there for this model with their proprietary sight cut because it seems your choices are very limited at best for co-witnessing your sight line.
I ordered the optics plate for my APX a1 and it was $29 from Beretta and it came 2 days after ordering. My only gripe is there are no companies making holsters for it.
If someone wants a gun that is optics ready, I recommend one of the brands that provides adapter plates with the pistol at purchase. Or, something like the Shadow Systems that require no plates and accommodate nearly all optics. Those guns are more expensive than the APX A1, so it is up to each buyer to determine value - I just point out what I think is important to know.
@@JustinOpinionChannel I would say for polymer striker optics ready, right out of the box the M&P M2.0 is the best choice. Already has plates and sights that work with optics.
The sad thing is I am REALLY interested in the firearm but I can't find a range that has one available for rent. I am very hesitant to purchase it without actually firing it and unable to return.
I have owned the original APX for the last five years. The appeal of this pistol came from it's selection for testing in the MHT program. That in its self is a significant plus for the gun. I watched your review hoping it incorporated some significant improvements. I noted the changes you highlighted in your video, but are they real performance enhancements? The main change they neglected was improving the modularity disassembly which essentially remained the same. The Sig M-17 design is certainly an example of an efficient and easy to removal chassis, which is not the case with APX or APX-A1. I suppose the changes you describe are good as an upgrade, but I am still not convinced to purchase one. The original APX is a accurate well made pistol and flat shooting .I will continue to research this pistol and determine if its upgrade i would consider. Thank you for your excellent videos which provide insightful information which I enjoy watching.
It seems like everyone who did buy the original APX liked the serration design. There just wasn't enough of us. The case still has the serration design on it too. Shame it looks like everything else now. The new APX has the "competition" trigger spring and recoil spring but it sounds like they don't really change much.
Thanks! You almost completely clarified the differences. The only thing you didn't touch on was the frame differences (the accessory rail appears to be bulkier or more pronounced. It makes the nose aesthetics blocky & square. ie...less attractive). The RED DOT cut & the trigger (kickstand) safety are the the greatest improvements! The slide serrations are aesthetically less attractive, and functionally...a matter of personal preference. Beretta could have improved the original serrations by adding 2 additional serrations and reducing the size of the gaps between them, or...by eliminating or reducing all those diagonal tapers on the serrations! All those tapers they used to prevent snagging caused the "slippery when wet" issue! They should've made the original serrations more aggressive or added more of them by 2 to reduce the smooth gaps between them! The greatest issues with the APX is that Beretta is trying to get military & police contracts! More aggressive Serrations pose a snag hazzard! Police & military users don't need a firearm snagging while being drawn from it's holster! Those Jurassic Raptor-like Serrations gave the APX it's unique distinction, sexy style & visual appeal! It's all about the serrations. The A1 is a just another service drone for mass production & sales to police! The "Originals" are more valuable as collector items now! And Beretta can increase profits by manufacturing & selling just the "original" slides in cerakote'd colors (Grey & Tan) without all the diagonal tapering to the serrations!
Also, just noticed that the plastic box design matches the slide serration design of the original. Beretta does not appear to have updated the box design to match the A1 slide serrations. 😅
It's not as abrasive to the skin or clothing. The granulate is excellent and each has its place, but for any carry gun I prefer the rubberized, and even for many match guns.
Does it Feature a Chassis System? Over here in germany that could be a selling point. As the number of guns you are allowed to own as hunter sportsshooter is restricted.
This was a really good review. I have owned the APX original full size and now the APX original Compact (13 rounds 9mm). Like you I like the original serations on the original slide. I saw no need to change that honestly. I do not use red dots so that didn't impress me with the APX 1. I found your point about the triggers really interesting and I never noticed that. I too saw the triggers as very similar. I kept the original out of the box grips on my APX but I feel that is a personal choice. Can I ask what distance you were shooting at? Also and I don't mean this as a criticism of you in anyway, you are obviously a very capable shooter, but when you were shooting the APX 1 after the APX original I noticed a little bit of shaking --I think your arms got tired. I say this because you remark that you weren't hitting as well with the new APX. I think that was fatigue; nothing more. I again agree with you about the upgrading to an APX 1 and I am keeping my original APX Compact. This was the first striker fire pistol I found I really like. For full disclosure though I am a big Beretta fan and have been since I was in the military learning on a 92. Thanks for the video and you got a subscriber out of this video. I look forward to seeing your other reviews/videos. 👍 PS: I have Trijicon night sights on mine. I like those.
I think the old APX looks better this looks more like a Ruger and a IWI had a baby and it was so ugly they left it at a Fire Department plus the old APX was underrated to begin with I liked it better than the P320!🔥🤯🔫
The apx original and the apx a1 Would have more than likely doubled their sales if they did one little thing. And that is have magazine compatibility with the 92. They wanted to keep the apx magazines proprietary to the gun but that cut back in their sales because of the lack of compatibility with the 92.
The 92x I purchased required you pick a plate also. But when you registered the warranty they let you pick one and was sent for free. Wonder if it’s the same for the APX
Not as far as I can tell. I registered my A1 and was sent an email with a 10% discount code within a day but haven't received an email offering a free plate.
This is the first review I have seen of your that I disagree with. OH my goodness!! The New an improved APX is a very good shooting gun and a great value.
I just received my free optic plate for my 92x RDO Compact, I chose the Trijicon mount, not really knowing which mount was most commonly used. I'd like to keep the price point between 200.00 - 250.00, do you have any suggestions? Thanks for the video btw.!

I have a 1st Gen Centurion but I do not grip on those "tire tread" serrations. My grip slips somewhat. To me, I'm glad that was addressed.
Hopefully, we can buy A1 slides!?
Apx is a great gun . It's like an economic glock but$200 off.
I pray they make a duty holster for this gun! Ty for the great video! Stay blessed!!
Just bought one. Cost me $260 after discounts and rebate. Bought a swampfox liberty for it. It’s a sexy beast.
I really like your video style, thanks.
I appreciate that!
The new one has the modular design a la the 320. I’d love to see an option for putting the Toblerone serration style slide on the new frame. (Not necessarily an old slide, though it’d be interesting to see if they can interchange like the magazines.)
They can. I own an APX A1 and the mags are the same, it takes "APX mags" as they're called on Beretta's site.
Justin, another great video and review buddy! 👍
Strange ejection on that new one
I plan on getting one and if I really like it I will get the Centurion version when it becomes available also
I liked the original APX but there was always something else I liked or wanted just a little more.
It reminds me a lot of the CZ P-10 Series handgun!
what guns are better values?
Yeah when he said that I just thought "HUH???". For the Beretta reputation, quality, features I'm not seeing another better pistol value out there.
The fact that the original and the A1 both have proprietary to Beretta dovetail sight cuts in the slide seems a bad idea considering aftermarket choices
Its optics ready, so how many options for suppressor height sights is Beretta putting out there for this model with their proprietary sight cut because it seems your choices are very limited at best for co-witnessing your sight line.
I am glad Beretta went back to the Drawing Board on the APX. Wasn't very impressed with the trigger, dry-firing the original.

Same question as someone two years ago - what shades are those?
I ordered the optics plate for my APX a1 and it was $29 from Beretta and it came 2 days after ordering. My only gripe is there are no companies making holsters for it.
I got mine through CYA Holsters.
From someone that was shot and reviewed a lot of pistols, what is your recommendation for better values and better handguns out there?
I watched your
review hoping it incorporated some significant improvements. I noted the changes you highlighted in your video, but are they real performance enhancements? The main change they neglected was improving the modularity disassembly which essentially remained the same. The Sig M-17 design is certainly an example of an efficient and easy to removal chassis, which is not
the case with APX or APX-A1.

Good review as usual 👍
Thanks! 👍

Good review. Do you have any videos on what you consider the best values in this and other categories?
It seems like everyone who did buy the original APX liked the serration design. There just wasn't enough of us. The case still has the serration design on it too. Shame it looks like everything else now. The new APX has the "competition" trigger spring and recoil spring but it sounds like they don't really change much.
I like your mike. The sound is very good.
Best part of waking up is beretta in my cup
01:39 the patent-pending EOYTSD (Exaggerated Over-Dramatic TH-cam Slide Drop) begins!!!!!
What are are advantages of the rubber grip tape?
It's not as abrasive to the skin or clothing. The granulate is excellent and each has its place, but for any carry gun I prefer the rubberized, and even for many match guns.
@@JustinOpinionChannel yep the Grip is a tad abrasive.
Want one in the compact.
Love this gun, tried at the field and ordered, did you use the american production or the italian's?
Does it Feature a Chassis System? Over here in germany that could be a selling point. As the number of guns you are allowed to own as hunter sportsshooter is restricted.
Yes, it has an internal serialized chassis.
PS: I have Trijicon night sights on mine. I like those.
Thanks much!
I think the old APX looks better this looks more like a Ruger and a IWI had a baby and it was so ugly they left it at a Fire Department plus the old APX was underrated to begin with I liked it better than the P320!🔥🤯🔫

The apx original and the apx a1
Would have more than likely doubled their sales if they did one little thing.
And that is have magazine compatibility with the 92.
They wanted to keep the apx magazines proprietary to the gun but that cut back in their sales because of the lack of compatibility with the 92.
If it did not come with a slide cut how much would you have to pay to have it sent off to be cut? What does that entail?
I love this gun but the sights for me are a big problem for me they shot extreamely low but the gun is very reliable but very low

I got one today came with a Burris red dot 499
Yes, still enjoy.40, have gen 5 Glock 22
I just received my free optic plate for my 92x RDO Compact, I chose the Trijicon mount, not really knowing which mount was most commonly used. I'd like to keep the price point between 200.00 - 250.00, do you have any suggestions? Thanks for the video btw.!
@@coach- I agree I'll have to bump that price up 100.00..!
What would you recommend then if not this Beretta APX A1, in this price range?
FN 509m
did you do any modifications to the sights
No - fresh out of the box.
Is this CCW, it's slightly bigger than recommended at 4" and bellow barrel size with the beretta being 4.25"
Every one keeps talking about the paint coming off ,xan they fix that?
Are the barrels interchangeable?
BERETTA Says that the mounting plate will be provided free of charge when the gun is registered. Just like the Walther PPQ
