6:25 Every time I bust out my iem travel bag at parties 🎉..people are freaked out at how great they sound …when coming from “buds” …anything is an improvement.
Put it on tubes , you’ll hear them come to life . I put it on tubes to get that “colored sound” . Adding more bass and the midrange and vocals is even more inviting . And 1 thing about Sennheisers HD6X0 series that I like is that their repairability factor . Head band broke ? No problem, buy and fix it . Ear pads worn out ? No problem , buy a fresh one from Sennheiser. Longevity of audio products is always a good thing and Sennheiser achieves it .
I got the HD6XX connected to a Topping D70 I bought in 2019 and a Jotunheim 2. I have the Monoprice THX 887 too. I like the Jotunheim 2 better. One thing about the HD6XX is you have to have a good, powerful amp to drive it, since it is 300 ohm headphone. A lot of people just want to connect to their smartphone and be done with it. You can do that but the HD6XX will not have it's full sound, not enough power. Dynamic Range will be cut. Most people don't want to spend the money it takes to listen to a good headphone. I don't stream my music. I buy my music. I have CDs, I have 16/44.1 and 24/96. I have over 4600 songs in collection. I would have a lot more being 62 but some of my CDs were stolen from me. I buy my music just so I don't have to depend on the Net. Have a large movie collection as well. Those were not stolen. If you put crap into a good a set headphones, you will get crap coming out. Some headphones bring out bad recordings. Headphones can bring things out of recordings that speakers otherwise would not do. That's another thing that fails to get mentioned. Headphone are more sensitive because they are closer to ears and smaller drivers. IEMs do this even more than headphones. Recording has changed as well. Listening to an original Elvis recording from 1956 then listen to a recording made now. Huge difference. Modern recording has changed everything. I have the ATH-WS1100is, T50 and T40RP MK3, DT150. I love my HD6XX the best. Listening to a movie or anime like Ghost In The Shell, the HD6XX does sound pretty good. It's hard to beat for 200. However, along with that you have spend another 150 to 300 on a good amp. That's where people fall away from it. Drop has sold 196,000 of these headphones. Considering the number of different headphones being made plus IEMs, that's a good number. If the HD6XX sounded bad, there would not be 196,000 sold and they would not be around for this long either. Same with the HD600 and Sennheiser in general. Thing is, listening before you buy. Understanding what 300 ohms mean when one is looking for a headphone. When you start paying money for headphones, and maybe an amp, it pays to listen first. One person may hate a headphone while another person may love it. Finding that sweet spot between sound and money is what it is all about. HD6XX is an very good headphone if driven properly and good files are used to listen.
unlike IEM market where advancement moves fast, the headphone market seems stale for a long time now. Now with that said, absolute summit-fi headphones stand the test of time extremely well, things like Focal Utopia, Hifiman Susvara, Stax SR009S, ... are still top dogs today as they were back then when first released onto the market.
@@_chiaki_nanami_ well, if you love maximum details/resolution & unique ethereal treble from real electrostatic driver, then you can't go wrong with the Stax flagships. Worth it or not is whole different story though, since everybody values thing differently and not to mention the Stax will need ample amount of juice to feed it, which translate to another big buck spent into dac/amp stack. Personally I would save for Focal Utopia for the beautiful & organic mid, with tastefully done bass as well, though sacrificing a bit of details & soundstage but easier to drive to maximum capability. Haven't listened to Susvara yet so won't comment on it.
I started my hifi journey with KZ ZS6. They were extremely bright (propably the reason i have tinnitus) then bought M40x. The M40x was good but I sold those for HD58x and oh my god they were insane. I used those babies for like 5 years. Then I bought Seeaudio Yume Ultra and they are basically HD58x but a bit detailed. I was really shocked how can IEM sound so good. I sold my HD58x and kept the Yume Ultra's.
There are very few detailed videos on this topic. Maybe add speakers to the comparison. Coz speaker guys don't even consider headphones and iems as hifi. Very eager to watch.
I had the original recording of Ozzy Blizzard Of Ozz. I have the Remastered one now. The original sounds better in my opinion. Some producers are going back and refurbishing old recording equipment and going back to the old recording method. Why? Sometimes it sounds better. Joe Elliott from Def Leppard is doing this in his studio. He has a really nice studio. When it comes to music the recording process is important. It is as important as the equipment used to listen to it. Nice review thanks. Just thought I would share some things. Money is tight I know. One needs to make sure and understand what goes into this hobby.
i had both the 6xx and 600 and preferred the 600 with eq, better vocals and better bass and treble extension. 6xx vocals were also a little veiled. however my daily drivers ended up being beyerdynamic 880 600ohm with oratory1990's worn pad eq and a little bump to the subbass for me personally.
GM ☕️ IEM’s and headphones present differently…on the whole a similar priced iem will out perform the 6XX Now,for vocal heavy performance I’ll run my Sen’s 650 ..and musical performance line movie ost or electronica LCDX does the trick . No one is perfect for everything..you can get close ..but that why we all have a collection of both IEM’s and headphones. Great Long Weekend 🇨🇦☕️
Before watching, i thought the headphones would beat the iems similar to what happened with the LCD X vs Subtonic storm. Maybe try comparing with some newer model. Why is it that people who listen to HIFI speakers simply cant go back to headphones or IEMs. And similarly people with open backs cant stand IEMs?
I noticed you have to entries for the DZ4 in your ranking spreadsheet. With different scores. Why is this so? Did you change your mind, at some point in time?
i just saw your iem ranking list i noticed you gave the same rank to sm4 and ie600, are you sure you remember well what ie600 sounds like ? i listened to both last week and they are not in the same league, sm4 is analytical but boringly flat and ie600 is punchy with it's exciting V presentation but more importantly ie600 is in another technical league (much cleaner, better soundstage, much better imaging, slight better details, much better dynamic range) the only advantage i see for sm4 over ie600 is for long listening sessions where ie600 energy is more fatiguing
@@jayyaudio you misread me i said it was sm4 that was analytical not ie600, the ie600 boosted treble does not convey a analytical vibe, it conveys energetic/exciting vibe which i prefer but you must relisten to ie600 and sm4 side by side, they don't belong in the same category as you grade them, ie600 is much cleaner the imaging is much better
Hey Jay, could you do a video about basshead over ear headphones under 500 dollars? Or recommendations for headphones in general? Found my endgame iems, trying to dip my toes into the headphones world and I really value your opinion.
If you really want bass on an open back, the HD58x is a nice headphone, and can be picked up for less than the HD6xx. The 58x is easier to drive too. I find flathead earbuds to be a nice middle ground between open backs and IEMs.
FINALLY someone actually points out why IEMs may be preferable over headphones. The portability factor, price and convenience. Unless one values soundstage more than those then it may not be a good option. As much as I want to purchase headphones, I won't. I prefer IEMs better (my preference).
Nice review. In your opinion, what's the best IEM for around $200-$300? I mainly use it to play games, and most of my playlist are hip-hop, pop, jazz, and chill music. (Upgrading from Delci)
To me the HD600 sound quite close to Nova in terms of tonality with extra warmth and intimacy to the vocals, and Nova having better details in treble and bass, while HD600 having better soundstage. Since the HD600 has a relatively small soundstage for an open back, it's not a huge difference and one should get an IEM instead. Hoping to get a DZ4 if it comes on deep sale.
Shure se846 - mine are over 10 years. Replaceable cables before others followed suit and built to last. And sound great too. Airpods pro 2 earbuds - you can take them in to get the battery changed. I'm hoping my dunu Davincis will last 10 years!

first and foremost, bass. in-ears have bass.
It's actually the same headphone as HD650 that came in 2003, just different color and cable.
And lower price.

The reason why the 6xx are so good compare to other overear headphones is the price, going down to 170 USD in drop, punches way above it's price range

Hi great interesting vid, I fitted custom cans bass mod and does help the bass at the lower end and it’s bit far off compared to hd660s2. Regards mark
When is your discord coming? Cant wait for more details on your IEM now that i saw its ranked with the MK3 in your tierlist at 1/3rd the price.
