I had the pleasure of working in all the outdoor scenes in Bladerunner as a utility stuntman. I drove most of the vehicles you see manuevering through the street. In retrospect, it wasn't always a pleasure, in fact, most of the time it was pretty miserable. Ridley was a demanding task master, and had constructed three gigantic sprinkler heads over which was once Warner Bros. "New York Street," turning it into a future LA. i`ve read several books on the making of Bladerunner, it sounded horrendous, but it certainly is one of the standout sci fi films of all time, i would be very proud to have been involved in any aspect of this classic
The film was made in 1982 without a lot of tech, and Ridley Scott’s 1st Hollywood film, and low budget. The story wasn’t moving, but Dick’s dark, dark world was brilliantly visualized. In Top Gun 1986, Tony Scott was director, and the producers Bruckheimer and Simpson thought it was a mess; they did a cattle call for the soundtrack (afterall, their previous Flashdance and Bev Hills Cop were music videos first, and movies second) and 300 submissions were made. Top Gun was a blockbuster but they didn’t have those feelings when it was being edited.
Pure masterpiece...in every possible way. Beautiful, terrifying, heartbreaking, magnificent. The late Rutger Hauer wrote in his book "All Those Moments" that his portrayal of Roy Batty in "Blade Runner" was the best job he ever had. Yes, it was...and he was and still is the heartbeat of this gorgeous classic. Marvelous!

The stark and unexpected contrast of suddenly seeing what can best be described as humanity shine through at the twilight of his existence, when what we came to expect is violence and hate, is so incredibly poignant. He just wanted to live and like a human, he was angry and afraid at the fate imposed on him by others. As soon as he faces the reality of the end, his anger and hate washes away and you see only the pain and sadness which are behind most of the hate and anger that we all feel. It was a brilliantly well setup moment. These are scenes that take an entire movie to build towards, but Christ the pay off was there. Wonderful.

There's SO much to this film that didn't come across initially. The music. The story. The ethics. all of those were lost in the sci-fi dystopia setting. This is a masterpiece.
@@Cinemaphile7783 - What is a Blade Runner? Who are replicants? What's the nature of dystopian LA in 2019? What was Deckard's history as a Blade Runner? Who is Gaff? How is he different as Blade Runner from Deckard? What is the significance of the clues that Deckard finds in various replicant living areas (sane scales, photos, etc.)? What is Deckard's attitude toward replicants at the beginning of the film compared to at the end? What is Gaff's attitude toward replicants at the beginning of the film compared to the end? All of those questions are answered without ambiguity via the voiceover. They are much harder to suss out just via character dialog and action, especially for a 13-year-old kid in 1982.

I miss Rutger Hauer. sleep well friend thanks for all the years of joy and all the different personality's you have shared with us.
Me too.
"All those moments in time will be lost like tears in the rain" That stuck! with me when I was young! and saw this movie. When first came out. Especially now that I see my own end in the Horizon! . But not feeling sorry for myself but rather grateful for it's been a wonderful life. Amen^

Blade Runner is the best Sci-Fi film I have ever seen. Film and music are outstanding. Music is superb.
Rutger Hauer. One of the most underrated actors of all time!
Several decades later this is still one of my all time favorite movies.
I always felt that Hauer's enigmatic performance made this movie.
Watch turks fruit !.....Thank me later !
Yes amazing film and now 42 years later we are again appreciating how great it was and particularly this sequence. Timeless.
After reading all the comments I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels the same way about this scene, along with the actor, entire movie and how wonderfully poetic those words are. I feel good knowing this movie will live in the minds of people in the future. So great on so many levels.
Alien Blade Runner Thelma & Louise Gladiator.. Ridley Scotts mind has created atmospheres stay stuck somewhere in the brain, keep wanting to turn around and go back go there over and over.. grateful to have firstly a VCR with Blade Runner on repeat..
One of the best movies EVER made.........The cinematic content is off the frickin' chart!! RIP Rutger, you will always be missed friend.........
I can't tell you how much this film, this scene, has affected me and been with me through all of my life. The power of the ideas, the beauty and the possibility.
I`m near 60. I think, it´s one of the best films ever. RIP Rutger. But all respect to all the other actors from this film. Ein großes "Dankeschön" für diesen fantastischen Film 😊
I have seen this movie many times and never tire of watching it. For me , it is Epic and will watch it again . The last scene with Rutger Hauer is emotional one for me feeling sorry and knowing that it is his time to die. It really hits an inner chord within me.
60 years old and I remember watching this movie and this particular scene when it originally came out and being blown away by the dialogue
It is not one of the greatest movies of all time but is a solid movie with stunning design and great performances.

I don’t believe I said it was only of the greatest movies of all time. But thanks anyway

It is one of my personal favourites. A very haunting film. I do not rate it at the very top as a play though when compared to other greats.
He improvised those lines on the moment,it wasn't in the script.
And created a scene among scenes in film, such brilliance on his part.
It was more than a movie at that point for him,he was living it.
They couldnt have pi ked a more brilliant man to play the role of a lifetime.
100%!!!
Yep. watched the directors commens DVD. I don't have the words
Music sets up the ambiance of the film properly. Vangelis scored a great composition. Never be anything like it again.
Still my favourite movie of all time ! Scripts amazing along with the cinematography.
I saw this movie in 82 down town LA with my pops. Oct 28-23. Having a drink 🥃. Still listening all those memories. Love you Dad
This scene, words, and music.....I have no words to describe how is so fantastic...
Definitely one of the most memorable scenes and dialogues ever
Hauer did a fantastic performance in this movie...this final scene, he telling the marvellous things he'd seen and expressed his will to live on was just mindblowing. Such movies are not really made nowadays.
The BEST sci-fi film ever made.
The best monologue in a movie ever, and to this day my favorite movie. Never a movie that better asked the question of what it is to be a human being.
This is a great film. Rutger made it inmortal.
There's SO much to this film that didn't come across initially. The music. The story. The ethics. all of those were lost in the sci-fi dystopia setting. This is a masterpiece.
Watch the Director's Cut
@@Cinemaphile7783 - I own it on DVD. I know Ridley Scott hated the Deckert voice-over, but without it, the Director's Cut is harder to understand.
@@timrogers2638 Is it really? Batty spends the entire film looking for his creator so he can live longer. Why would you need an explanation?
@timrogers2638 None of that is explained in the voice-over. Sometimes, a film is best kept open-ended. If you need more info, read the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
Rest in peace Rutger Hauer! 🙏🙏
And Vangelis................
j'adore cet acteur.
Der weiß was geht
What a performance ❤
Rest in peace, Vangelis Papathanasiou.. you were truly mesmerizing..
And you, Ruther Hauer.. you deserved so much better .
after all this time, i still get shivers up my spine seeing this scene. perfection is not easy to come by but, here we see it.
just me or is rutger one of the most underrated actors ever
For me One of the most beautiful moment of cinéma.
Unforgettable masterpiece... "I've seen things you wouldn't believe, attack ships in flames from Orion's shoulder, I've seen C-Beams shine in the dark near the Tannhäuser gate, all these moments will be lost in time... Like tears in the rain... Time to die."
I've seen things that Rutger Hauer would not have believed ! lol ..Blesssings to him for the eternal sleep ! ..a wonderful actor !!
What a wonderful experience Blade Runner is. I was teeange when I saw this movie and still today almost 40 years later is one of the greatest movies ever made. This scene in particular is a masterpiece.
RIP Rutger Hauer, 'You've never been to the ocean? Then, you'd better run. You're running out of time. In heaven that's all they talk about. The ocean and the sunset. How fuckin' wonderful it is, to watch that big ball of fire melt into the ocean -- and the only light that is left like a candle it's only inside..."
I had not seen it in english when i was young, and i realize the beauty of those words are even highter in the original version. Bless him to have surprisingly come up with its own final.
To add this, the theme is splendid... 🥰
I have watched this movie every year since I first saw it on the big screen when it came out 1982. It was the first movie I bought on DVD at Blockbuster when I got my first player. A great scene in the movie a true classic.
the soundtrack is amazing. I still listen to it. Blade runner blues. Blade Runner love theme Vangelis
Ridley Scott's work leaves a precedent of thought.. I've always found some of his works, deep, mysterious, philosophical. Rewatching again, having multiple hidden meanings, especially as you change with your life your own perceptions attitudes.. He holds the mirror up very well.
This entire movie is a feast for the eyes and ears. I listen to the OST all the time
RIP Rudger 🙏
One of the most iconic movie ending, from the actors AND the music...Great movie
This Is Epic. One Of The Greatest Scenes In Movies Ever Made. Timeless Masterpiece.
hated by humans and also by replicants for being a blade runner. Deep down it shows the feelings of each one of us... sometimes we are loved, sometimes hated! The 2049 saga made me cry... like tears in the rain... so nostalgic! One of the best films of all time, when I watch both feature films I remember Vangelis... and his eternal music! Vangelis lives in our memories... through his cybernetic orchestra!
One of the best movies ever made...
This haunting quote is the first thing I think of when hearing the word Bladerunner. Absolute Masterpiece!
RIP Vangelis and Rutger
