Please do not use your mouth to start siphons-you had laryngospasm which is your body’s defense mechanism to keep everything out of your lungs by closing your vocal cords. This includes air… and you’ll end up dying from lack of oxygen. Same mechanism as drowning deaths, you’re not dying from water in the lungs but vocal cords in spasm which does not stop. You’d need an anesthesiologist with a muscle relaxant dose to break the spasm and reopen the vocal cords to get air into your lungs!
I really hope he reads one of our comments, I gave him advice about the pneumonia also, he may be fine now but wait a few days to a week... he may meet his maker yet if he doesn't take this seriously!
The ol' cliche on epitaph reads "he died doing what he loved the most" except the water change part 😂. Fill hose first, either submerged in tank or by tap. Saves waterboarding yourself 😂 ps glad you're still breathing
So glad you're ok! I know what it's like to be so very close to death that you accept it's gonna happen. In my case I had no control, but I'm so glad you did and that you fought! Hugs. 💙
i am glad you survived Lucas! now that you've experienced how quickly and strangely life can end, go hug your wife and kids tell them how much you love them and how very important they are to you. we never know when the last time we see someone will be, people go to the store and get killed in car wrecks, one moment they are there in our lives, the next we are left wishing we had said we love them one last time.... every time you part company with someone you care for, make you tell them so.
@lrbaquatics, Brother glad you made it through that horrible experience. Thanks for the tip. Just wanted to let you know that We had a house fire right before Christmas and we’re out of our home for at least 6 months. No fish for me for a while. It’s been really hard.
I truly believe everyone should go through something like this. Hear me out. I fell 25 feet landed on my hands n knees it took 5 surgeries to put me back together but I realized if I would have landed on my head or back I wouldn't b here. That happened 9 years ago and ever since I've had a different outlook on life. That's when I started getting serious about fish keeping. I try to cherish everyday. I have 3 kids 16 13 and 8. My youngest was born a month after I fell. Life is so short and tomorrow isn't given to us so slow down, enjoy what time u have show the ones u love just how thankful u r to have them in your life. I'm glad to c you're OK. Whether you know it or not u were given a gift. The gift is the true appreciation of another day.
I am glad you are OK. That is always a terifing experience. What if you get a see-through pipe instead so you can see the water inside just in case you forget
Hey Lucas from one fellow creator and fish enthusiast to another! Surviving water changes is no small feat-both for us and our fish! Blessings that everything turned out okay. Here's to thriving tanks and the passion we share! Keep inspiring! Maybe time for a submersible pump to pump that water out of the tanks. ❤
Lucas, about three years ago I fell off the fish trip. My kidneys suddenly packed it in. It was awful. Not in an hour, that must have been terrifying, my illness came as a near death experience and if not for the help of my wife and our medical system. The thing you may find Lucas, is that you will or have already, begun to change your outlook on not simply your life, but on all life around you. Just go with it and may you be blessed for the great man you will be.
The amount of tank water I have had in my mouth 🤢🥴 That’s a scary story though, probably due to the diameter of that siphon you’re using. I did have a similar experience, I suffer from reflux, and one night I woke choking on what ever raised back into my throat, i jumped out of bed and bolted to the bathroom, and I couldn’t breathe at all, I was freaking out! It wasn’t from food, it was stomach acid and saliva, but the saliva was so slimy and thick that no matter how much I rinsed my mouth, I couldn’t breathe through it. Obviously, eventually I managed to clear it and breathe, but damn it was scary, especially from a deep sleep at like 2am. It has not happened like that since, but now I make sure that I take an anti-acid before bed.
I didn't know that could happen. I got really bad acid reflux also. Try Omeprazole it takes a while to kick in but it works really really well. It doesn't neutralize the acid it makes your stomach produce less. Its a much better solution.
@ It only happened once, where I couldn’t breathe from it happening. I think I have finally figured out that eating dairy causes it, like having ice cream a few hours before bed, is not a good idea for me at all, avoiding dairy has helped tremendously.
I feel your pain. I know that feeling to have had it happen to me multiple times waking up choking on stomach acid. Definitely unpleasant and feels like you’re dying! Diet is the best way to fix it and find what foods work for you and what doesn’t.
Diary actually helps me settle it if I’ve had too much acidic food. Drinking pop will inflame it as well. Like aquariums we have to learn to balance our gut biomes as well.
Had that happen over the decades. Believe me ,I will only now use a CLEAR hose and my eyes watch the water flow over rim as I let go. Otherwise you waterboard yourself. A very sickening feeling not being able to breathe and making those sounds doesn't help the experience.
You need to let your dr know! You just inhaled dirty fish water into your lungs!!!! And then it hung out there for a little bit, then you took huge deep breaths after you started getting breaths pushing bacteria infested water deep into your lungs. It will take a few days, but I can almost guarantee you are going to get a bad infection from that... possibly pneumonia. If you even start to develop a cough or fever, get yourself to a dr or a convenient care. Crap like that and you may not see tomorrow. It can go south real quick. I'd feel better if you went before you actually started with symptoms and got on an antibiotic. Look up particulate pneumonia, aspiration pneumonia, that is soooo bad. Please don't mess around with this. Your lungs are such a nice warm moist place with crevices that bacteria love to grow in, and so hard to kill once they have a hold on.😢😮
Biggest fear when doing it with the bigger hose love the feeling of drowing standing up on dry land best way to unalive yourself. That’s when that darn life alert necklace would come in handy 😅😂
If all you have is a hose then stick about 2 foot of it into the tank then cover the end and pull the excess out and uncover the end quickly. Im sure you already know that trick but you really should stop sucking on the hose to start a siphon. A python gravel vac would be the way to go. Cory from aquarium co ops trick works really well and you dont need to stick much of the hose in the tank to do it.
@@LRBaquatics true. Maybe time to invest in a small trash pump then. Odss of drowning in your fishroom are what they are but still you are risking pneumonia and other upper respiratory infections and your immune system cant save you from everything.
I think your vocal strings, get wet, and they just tidden up and close the airpipe. And you can`t do anything until they relaxe and release. I have tryed something like that. Awfull experience. 😢
Wow, whew, that's terrifying! I accidentally drank a mouth full of reef tank water the other day doing the same thing, I had no idea it could cause you to not be able to breathe, new lesson after 60+ years of keeping aquariums😮!
i choked on a hot dog once, for like half a minute, in a crowded mall. The shocking part was everyone just stared at me. I must have been quite a spectacle. Do not expect help on your death bed😂 when you are choking you cannot say nothing…. zip
This makes me want to never start a siphon with my mouth again. It's gross and I know it ( we have all prob done it once or a hundred times 🤣) but I never thought I could die from it 😳
No need to ever suck on a hose. Put about a foot of hose into the water, cap it with your thumb and draw down. Gravity is your friend. It really is that simple.
Very lucky! Glad you are ok.

Scary shit. Using transparent hose could help to see if there water in it. Glad you are still with us! ❤❤
The Shrimp Jesus almost met Jesus. Glad you're still with us Lucas !!!
"Slow is smooth and smooth is fast." I'm glad you're alive!!!
I'm happy you're ok. And I hope sales are good when you can ship again. Thanks for sharing 😊
How many days ago did it happen?
Watch out for pneumonia, or even dry drowning. You can end up with laryngospasm after the fact.
I really hope he reads one of our comments, I gave him advice about the pneumonia also, he may be fine now but wait a few days to a week... he may meet his maker yet if he doesn't take this seriously!
It been a little over a week now. Had a few odd feelings as in sensations from reaction but nothing serious thankfully.
Practice clearing the hose but also switch to clear plastic hose so you can see what's going on.
Amen that you are ok 🙏🏻
Anyone who works or lived alone should learn (and practice) the self heimlich!
Oh thank God you are okay!❤❤❤
Frightening! We're so glad you're alright.
How scary for you Lucas, so glad you are ok and thanks for making others aware
Glad you're ok!!
Thank goodness you are good Lucas. That is a scary situation. Blessings. We need you LRB.
love you Lucas.. Stoked youre all good bro✌✌
I was wondering where you'd been...! Wow, glad you're OK...!!! Thanks for sharing... Keep up your awesomeness...!!!
I am glad you made it through that Lucas! Sometimes life is a hard lesson learned and i will absolutely learn from this!
See… just another reason why you should never change your water.
Lol water changes are still good
@ I know bud. I was trying to be funny. Glad you’re okay.

Happy to see you persevered! I feel you on the shipping situation...
Well, that is an unfortunate situation, but I'm glad you pushed your way through. Great advice, just keep fighting.

Lucas says to stop doing water changes for safety reasons.
OMG LRB I’m glad your ok. Stay strong, great message.

Dude that’s bananas! So glad you’re good!!
Glad youre still here, Lucas!
Glad you fine, buddy God bless 🙏
Scary. That would be a horrible way to go. Glad you got the water up and got a breath of fresh air.

Happy New Year Mr.Lucas.
Happy New Year to you as well!
Glad you’re ok. One of my worst fears is a rack falling on me and my kids finding me later. Stay safe yall.
Big reason why all my racks are tied together and if it’s one I bump into I will brace and secure it to the wall so it can’t move.
Glad to see your ok fish friend
Fight to breath. Glad youre okay man
I always thought we were through the dangerous part once the racks were built ❤

Damn dude becareful
Brother get yourself a clear hose so you can see the water or spider in the hose glad you ok that was scary the way you explained it
God thankfully there wasn’t a spider in that equation at that time!
You basically got waterboarded. You got tortured by the us fish army 😂
Maybe use a siphon with a pump?🤷🏻♀️and glad you’re ok
Wow thats scary.

@@LRBaquaticsAgreed. I also swallowed Diesel gas once. Once was enough 😂
I did that with gasoline from my motorcycle. I ended up farting and burping gas for 24 hours. I’m pretty sure I did some kind of permanent damage

1 000 ways to say good bye 😢
