I am currently unemployed due to the real estate market/rates. Layoffs are HUGE right now in the mortgage industry. Being an underwriter in the mortgage industry for the past 15+ years, the layoffs and volatile market are aboslutely exhausting. I am over it. Back in 2008 when the big crash happened, I tried to get into insurance and not one door was opened. I am trying again in 2023! It has been challenging... Despite similar work experience, transferable skills, and two degrees, I STILL cannot get a foot in the door in the insurance field. I have even cut my pay requirement to a third of what I was making as a mortgage underwriter and removed my master's degree from my resume and I still cannot get a call back. It is definitely refreshing to see a woman of color in this position because like the mortgage industry, you see the same type of employee over and over again and it can get frustrating. Your video gives me hope! I have applied for a ton of open roles at most major insurance companies. I hope to get on the commercial side of the business. I am seeking a recession proof area of the business. I know I will not see my six-figure salary for a while, but I surely am going to try MY BEST to get into this field! Stay blessed!!
Wow your comment touched me. I am sorry about what you are going through. I can only imagine what that must feel like and am saying a prayer for you that God will move on you behalf. If you don't mind me asking, what city do you live in? I would suggest that you look for Underwriting development programs. I know Liberty Mutual does them and with your underwriting background even though it's in the mortgage industry, would probably be a foot in the door.
@@mallorylouise331 - Thanks for responding!🙂 I am in Dallas. There are a lot of insurance opportunities here, but I have tried and tried, but It seems that the insurance industry does not believe that mortgage underwriters have transferable skills into insurance underwriting. To me, it's the same concept; we have to follow guidelines and procedures set forth by the company, Federal, and state. We have the same analytical, negotiating, and critical thinking skills as any other underwriter in any industry. I am not going to give up! At some point, God will bring me to the right role.🤗❤️
