    Seriously, thank you for this video. This was the first one I found that actually managed to showcase what it's like using this device on a daily basis and in different situations. On the bed or on the couch, on your lap, picking it up with one hand, using it while lying down.. Additionally you didn't gloss over any annoyances or disadvantages compared to other devices, you just straight up told us your impressions. I appreciate that.
    Really, a well rounded review that applies to real life situations much more than those reviews of many glorified tech sites.

      +New Tant man! thank you so much for the support. this is exactly the type of review videos i aim to create. i'm glad you liked. i find the same problem with some reviews as you say, people just kind of go through the product without having to put it to a good use first, mostly just kind of shallowly 'testing' it. but then their production quality will be through the roof ha. so i find its a balance

      @businesscentral365 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with @Newtant. I just received my SP4 and was looking for awesome review videos to watch on it while I play around with it. TH-cam brought me to your video and I'm glad it did. This is a great video, my friend. Thank you for making it and sharing it. I'll be using my SP4 in different orientations, locations, and positions and I'm glad you covered that.

      I have very painful experience with Surface pro-4. It started heating up from the second month of purchase and had to be replaced twice due to screen issues. Screen freeze is a major issue for this device. Think before purchase.

    Surface pro 4 much much better with recent updates
    ( oct 2016 ) much better battery life ( at last !!!)
    Nifty win10 features too
    I fear Apple is really being left behind

    This is the best review of any product ever. Seriously, ever. For the 1st time, I felt like someone was reviewing the product for me on a personal basis as a favour. Thanks, subscribing. By the way, the multi tasking video at the end should be used by microsoft as a part of their advertisement

    Fantastic review. I especially appreciated the small nuances you included, like how the weight in tablet mode is easily overcome by using the kickstand.

    A well rounded, review and quite apt. This was exactly what I was looking for with respect to ergonomics of use. The demo videos of the multitasking, was cool. I think it should be good enough for casual gaming such as asphalt 7 and halo at lower specs..

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Eeshan Choudhuri thansk a lot eeshan. glad you liked the multitasking part, it was fun to make. yeh they can definitely play those lighter games at low to medium settings. although i always feel gaming should be done on a desktop for the best experience. take care!

    • @echoingowl4025
      @echoingowl4025 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely Correct! Gaming should be done on a machine with tech specs dedicated to handle it. I am a Mac user, somehow I find the OS talks to Hardware quite well. But would also like to own a portable workhorse, for normal computing as well as casual entertainment.
      Apple though brought out an iPad Pro, but to me it looked like an iPad on steroids. I would have considered it, if it had the feature of switching between Mac OS and iOS like interface, in its iPad pro tablet just like surface pro 4 does.

    I am loving my iPad Pro 12.9, however I am seriously looking into getting a MS Surface Pro 5 (IF it has USB-C Thunderbolt 3)
    Because both devices work GREAT together.
    Surface Pro 5 for heavy office work - iPad Pro can actually act as a second screen via USB
    Surface Pro 5 can have iTunes installed - iPad Pro can sync with the device and my library is always with me
    Suface Pro 5 can charge my iPad Pro. - iPad Pro can play my music videos- while it frees up system resources on the Suface Pro 5 to other intensive things.
    When I take the Surface Pro 5 home I can plug it into a external graphics enclosure and play Star Craft 2, XCOM 2 or Killer Instinct/Mortal Kombat/Fallout 4 at HIGH settings.
    It's the convenience of carrying a fairly light device by being a portable office and a games machine.

    This was a really good review!! You addressed and commented on all the common and everyday uses of the device, especially those such as use on a lap which made me second guess the device. I am still yet to choose between a surface pro 4 and surface book for school, but thank you for this review well done!

      +Sarah Bonacci thansk sarah your welcome! nice, either device would be great, i haven't tried the surface book, but i dont' like that the battery life is so poor when used just as a tablet.

    Hi, this might be a silly question but do you have to charge the keyboard? Does it have a separate battery in it? Or do you need to have it plugged into the surface in order to charge it? Thanks.

    • @MuhaimenAyyub
      @MuhaimenAyyub 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +THEKINGSLAPPA The keyboard case neither have a separate battery nor you have to charge it. It has magnetic connectors which connects to the surface and boom just attach it and start using it.

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Joseph McDade hey joseph, yeah man its pretty tough to beat that combo for note taking. palm rejection was pretty much perfect too, it does take a little getting used to using the whole thing, but once you get a feel for how it works you can really start to fly around.

    • @FlexibleToast
      @FlexibleToast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I take it you would recommend it for students? I was leaning to a laptop at around half the price, but ease of mobility and the pen makes this look perfect for school.

      +Joseph McDade From experience myself, who has a Surface 3 with Pen. It is by far the best I've ever used on a device and that's a older model I have and it is great! I use it daily and it makes it so much easier to be able to take notes on a device, I love it.

    Good review. Would you recommend this or an iPad Pro 12.9 for just a causal web browsing watching TH-cam videos, online bill pay, basic emails, resume updating. I have all other apple products, phones Apple TV, iPad, older MacBook Pro . Thanks

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks...hmm....thats tough for me to answer, i mean i think this form factor does beat the ipad for the tasks you mention, but for light work it might be overkill and i think the battery life might annoy you in the long run. what about a newer macbook?

    one of the better reviews i have watched. You did real life things.. could easily relate. Nice job. Im just starting my research on the surface pro. i have a macbook pro and an iPad mini. both are a few years old. I like the combo in the surface. would you say this is 60% laptop and 40% tablet? or more laptop like?

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rodney Ochs appreciate that rodney. i think its definitely the 60/40 as you say. the only thing is with the lack of apps if you are used to an ipad mini, so just think about what things you actually use on that vs what would be available for the surface because for me, i still used my ipad, although i mostly game on it. so in some sense the surface is a little more laptop like but if you are just watching vids/email/websurfing, then the surface coverts to a tablet nicely. and for those things its even better imo due to the stand. hope that helps

    Hey great vid! Just wanted to point out that in case you want a more silent experience watching videos and browsing, try out the Edge browser. I'm guessing that you're using chrome which puts the CPU under load a lot more than it should compared to Edge. I've tried this and it has been more silent.

    I'm gonna start college in September, and I'm thinking of to buy Surface Pro for classes and works that I have to do during my college years. I'm a handnote person, I need to take notes by writing, not typing on a laptop. So I thought of buying this could be very easy and quick for everything, sincee everything will be on my computer and I'll get to access everything (+ no paper wasting! that sounds very awesome, I take sloppy notes so I waste too much paper). I don't want something huge and heavy either. Surface Pro looks like the device I need but I'm still not sure. I'm between Surface, iPad Pro and Macbook Air (or something), cuz all of them have almost the same prices. I want the perfect device to ease myself throughout my years! Any comments?

    Thanks for this. Very helpful. I am thinking of getting this for Medical School. It will be used for everything school related on-the-go, but I'm hoping to save up for a high performance gaming laptop (but would use it for anything that requires performance school-wise as well ) that will stay in my dorm. Do you think the fans would be an issue in a lecture hall or especially in a quiet clinic ward with only a Doctor and couple other students? (I'd be using it for notes with the pen and similar tasks in those situations)

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Circadium hey circadium, congrats on medical school. for your gaming laptop if its just gonna sit in your dorm room why not get a desktop for gaming, you could build a really nice one for probably half the price....as far as the fans, you won't hear them in a lecture hall above the ambient noise, maybe the person next to you but it shouldn't bother anyone, like i say its only when using video mostly (or gaming). as far as a quiet clinic ward, i mean people next to you will probably hear it if it kicks on full speed, i think you may want to test it in store first just to check, but i don't think it would be an issue.

    • @circadium7878
      @circadium7878 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ah ok that makes sense then. you could look into bldg a computer from something like the corsair 380t case, still though yeh youd have to lug a monitor and kb and wires everytime you go home so probably not ideal. but desktop gaming is nice since the monitors can be big and you can get more for your money. good luck with school though

    Hi there, I'm a high school student and looking to buy a laptop for school this year. Im tossing up between the surface pro 4 and the MacBook air. I would mostly use it for surfing the internet, watching videos, using programs such as word, powerpoint etc. and possibly editing videos. My most important needs are that it's light, has a long battery life to last a day at school, and is powerful enough to have many tabs open and a program such as word running in the background. I'm not very familiar with apple products or OS and in the past, iTunes has been very annoying for me. Im also thrown off by the macbook's very old fashioned design (non touchscreen, average display, thick bezels). I'm afraid that the Surface pro is more suited as a tablet and wont suffice as a laptop. Which would you recommend? Thank you very much

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nyssa H hey nysaa, i would recommend for you the surface pro or the dell xps 13. i would definitely not get a macbook air at this point, they are long in the tooth (my gf has a recent one and its just not as good as either of these machines). i love windows 10 too, i think its the best OS you can get. does that help?

    • @nyssah3753
      @nyssah3753 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for replying! The xps is currently out of my price range, if it weren't, I would get it in a heartbeat. Would the sp4 easily last about 6-7 hours? I've heard that the sp3 is better with battery life due to less power, is that true?
      Thankyou

    • @techfreshness

      np, ok then. the sp4 will last you 6 hours for sure and closer to 7. the sp3 may be better for battery life i dont' know for sure but i could believe what you heard, if you do end up with sp3, just make sure you get the newer touch cover for the sp4, its way better, the sp3 may or may not have the infinitely variable stand either, meaning it clicks into place, will would be very inconvenient imo.

    I didn't got you, how was it lacking in tablet mode and you felt like to reach out for your iPad??

    • @AdmiralBison
      @AdmiralBison 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aarushi Vatsa Windows 10 is not a tablet OS, though Microsoft have implemented a tablet mode, its not as easy and quickly accessible compared to iOS which is a dedicated tablet OS.
      This is also apparent when you try to run Windows 10 in portrait mode..too thin and tall, you have to be really precise when selecting start menu or task bar settings bottom right.
      It's been admitted by several reviewers, though it is a great hybrid, you really will be using it mostly as laptop.
      You will notice that a lot of Windows tablets and some Android ones too, it is often presented in landscape.
      I am seriously considering getting a Surface Pro 5 (if it has USB-C thunderbolt) but 99% of the time as a laptop, while my iPad Pro pretty much does all tablet duties.

      then a cable like this:

      Although I have not tried it, I researched it before when I was thinking of getting the SP3. Now that the SP4 is out, I'll be getting that and combine it with the cable and power bank above. Though they are rated for the SP3, they should work with the SP4.

    Quick Q. Can you take a screenshots in OneNote of a web page in one take if the web page is let say 4 screens high?

    • @techfreshness
      @techfreshness  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark Bradley hey mark. i'm not sure what you mean about the 4 screens high....do you mean like at the top of the screen? you can, you just highlight the screen after you double click it, in other words anytime you take a screenshot you have to tap and drag the pen across the specific screen area to capture, it doesn't just take a full page screen shot. that make sense?

    • @MangoTangoFox
      @MangoTangoFox 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark Bradley I believe you need a browser extension called OneNote Clipper, and it does allow you to capture an entire page, just a region, or just the text it perceives as the "article". In Microsoft's new Edge browser, only for Windows 10, you can mark up and draw on a web page and save/share that. When shared it should just be an overlay, so the website functions as normal underneath instead of it just being a screenshot.

    • @HikaruKenRyu-LightsabreJutsu

  • @quocvu84
    @quocvu84 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Three months ago, I bought a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 from Amazon, a brand new Surface Pro 4.
    After buying this Surface Pro 4, my job have been being effected a lot, and I think Microsoft should stop selling this kind of terrible laptop/tablet, recall all Surface Pro 4 they had sold, and they should test their products more carefully before sell it.
    My first Surface Pro 4 got dead touchscreen issue after a few week. The touch function didnt work totally after that, and I had to use it as a laptop. I tried many ways to resolved the problem, but it did not work, even reset to the factory mode.
    The battery of the device then stopped working too (plug-in, not charging), and it immediately turns off when I unplug the charge cable.
    I had contacted Microsoft Support Team in the USA, they asked me to return my SP4, then they would sent me a replacement. I had to spend 120USD for two-way shipping (Vietnam - USA), because they sent me a free shipping FeDex label use for US domestic only, and I'm living in Vietnam.
    I have just received the new Surface Pro 4 yesterday. But I'm very dissappointed, this second SP4 is a another faulty device, it has "phantom" touch problem. This happened right after I started the device for the first time, it's automatically touch the screen by itself every few minutes, at the same place (about 4cm on the right of the screen center). I have to disable touch drivers if I want to use this device.
    Yesterday, I contacted to Microsoft Support Team again, they tried to remote control my device, used some tool to fix it, but it's not work. They asked me to reset the device. I did, but the issue still occurs. I can't understand that why they did not check the quality of this replacement before sending. I'm sorry to say that Microsoft is trying to defraud me.
    They have no any solution for my case, so they asked me to contact Microsoft Support Team in Singapore for a replacement again.
    This morning, I contacted Microsoft Support Team in Singapore. Singapore Team told me that they could not send me a replacement because I'm living in Vietnam. They asked me to give them an address in Singapore that they can send a new replacement, or I have to fly to Singapore. Oh my God!!! Of course I denied, I dont want to spend any cent for this nightmare device!!! That's enough.
    Singapore Team gave me another solution, that I must send my device to US again, then they will refund, but they told me they were not sure how much I would receive.
    After talking with Singapore Team, I contact to US Team again (just 1 hour ago), but USA Team denied to process any refunds (even Singapore Team promised), the only solution they offer that is I have to return this nightmare device to US again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    AAAAAAA.... Crazy!!!!!!
    Be aware if you are thinking about buying a Microsoft Surface. Take my experience as a costly lession.
