I appreciate your competitor comparisons (both pro and con) as well as a feature review. It's what we need. You two have made your mark on this channel and it is a good one. The G5x would be my choice if I were to chose between them.
4:38 Maybe the comparison loses something over TH-cam but the internal mic sounds WAY better than I would have expected. It seems like the external mic picks up a lot more background noise. Even if the internal mic is a bit muffled, based on this sample it's good enough that which one I prefer is almost a toss up (at least in terms of run&gun voice recording, I'm sure in a studio or recording music the external mic's improvement in clarity would become much more apparent).
5:14 "Livestream Directly to TH-cam" *MIND EXPLODES* Good Job Canon. I'll go for the Canon's G7XIII. Not sure if the G5XIII is on sale here in The Netherlands. I am stunned by the pictures made with the mode where you can make pictures with less light available, as well as the panoramic mode. This did not appear in your video but they are very usefull to me.
Was there a size comparison ? From what I have been able to find, I believe the G7-X III is a tad bit smaller. Both seem to stretch the concept of a "pocket" camera (unless one as large pockets).
segment of profi compact cameras just died, I don't think there will be something new for reasonable price in near future, buy when it's still on stock
@@Pidalin I don't think so. The lower class compact camera for snapshota died. I like the ergonomics of compact camera and prefer them over phone cameras for photography trips. System cameras are often too big.
G5X, G7X, SX 740 HS...within months they all collect dust behind the lens and on the sensor. Here in Holland i have a G7X MKII and had it cleaned two times within a year by normal use.
I bought the G7X II used to test out these small Canon cameras and was really impressed with the images. The AF was a bit wonky, otherwise great. Since i liked it, i upgraded to the G5X II. The EVF is nice, but for me the selling point was the new lens with extra 20mm of reach. This makes it probably the most versatile pocket camera for photographers. Of course I wish it had Sony's AF or at least something similar, but it always depends on your priorities...
I am still waiting for my dream camera with no big LCD display but with better view finder instead. I understand that people want to do selfies and videos, but why there are no cameras for people who want mainly take pictures anymore?
Before Canon launched the G5X II I was sure to go for the RX100 VII. My mother is using the VI and that is an impressive little camera. What I dont like is the new EVF of the Sony. Sounds wired, but try them both. The older pull out version has a little eyecup, the new one is absolutely plane and so is always smeared. So I will go for the G5X MKII. That lens is way more interesting for me, than having 200mm at the long end.
SC S SC S I know the RX100IV and it’s basicly the same like the VA just not that fast. The the G5x ii is some kind of different camera than the RX. I bought it yesterday, after testing and comparing it to the Rx IV. The Sony is an ultra compact, witch fits well in the back pocket. The Canon is the size of a Olympus Pen Mini (PM1) without a lens attached. So for me those are two different categories. The EVF of the Canon looks better than that of the Sonys. Also the display is way better. To be honest, I don’t know if it was the right decision, but 70mm is to short for me. I own a RX100 I for myself with its 28-105mm and I don’t want to go under this range. Canon did no marvel here, it’s a bigger and brighter lens and for that, they need a bigger body.
I wanted the g5x ii but is so far inferior to the Sony that I couldn't. Why why why canon would out such and outdated unreliable AF in newer cameras is insane
@@shaolin95 To be honest, I bought both 🙈. At first the Canon and later the Sony. But yeah, the AF of the G5XII is a joke. The RX is so unbelievable in this department. Also for video. The AF is so sticky, it’s really like the big bodies. The G5XII is just for photographers, and you get a lot missed focus images. But the way you can work with this 24-120mm lens is something very special. It’s not to compare with something like the RX100VA. I hope that we will see a G5XIII with a new sensor and PDAF + 4K without overheating after 5min. If they bring it, i‘ll be the first to raise the hand to get one. I tried it as a back up for event photography and this little beast delivers. Some years ago, I always had a mFT as a back up with me at events. Just something small and lightweight. But there is nothing that can compete with a 24-120mm F1.8-2.8. this lens is so versatile that I often put my FF bodies beside and just walk around with the G5XII. I gave it to my co-photographer to test it at a event and as I reviewed his images in the press room, I could see, that after he tried it the first time he used it more and more. So much, that I reminded him not to forget the big one. But I can understand him. This little Canon is a joy to use, way more than the RX100s. Even with it’s flaws, I would never give it away before there is a new version.
I'm hanging in there with my ageing SX700HS at the moment. I'm a bit on the fence choosing between the two units reviewed here, although I am leaning towards the G7XIII for my main camera and keep the SX700HS as a second camera as that has some capabilities that the G7XIII is lacking. Also, in Australia at the moment, the G7XIII is more readily available.
Why did Canon need to release two almost identical cameras both missing important features? Why not just one with a little more reach, DPAF in 4k with external mic audio jack and EVF.
I can't agree more. They would need to engineer the design to fit both the viewfinder and the microphone jack. But, it seems strange that they segmented this camera for 2 audiences instead of just creating one ultra-premium camera.
Hi, sorry for the delayed response. On the G5X II the panorama mode is one of the options under the "scn" option on the main dial. Put the dial to "scn" then press the "set" button on the back dial and tab through the options till you get the panorama option. Hope that helps, thanks
Living in Australia I would value the viewfinder. Most point and shoots fail in bright light without an EVF. But the dollars involved mean I will survive using my Olympus EM1 MkII and live with the lack of being pocket sized.
I would never get a camera with a touch screen. I can only use one hand and trying to hold the it and take a picture would be impossible for me. I do have the Canon ELPH 190 is that is not a touch screen and I am able to handle it with ease and take beautiful pictures. I like Canon cameras and photography so I hope they do not put a touch screen on all their models.

Looks like the best solution is not to buy the new models now, but rather wait for the newcomers. Having in mind the great success of phone cameras, Canon&Sony will have to make some extra effort to deliver the competing hardware.
