- I have now installed the alternator engine cover gasket, drained the old oil, flushed the bike through with some new engine oil as an extra precaution, drained this oil, and then installed a new oil filter.
Looks nice and clean! Glad you noticed the washer from the gear shaft - think how many of those are lost and never put back. Love the music.
What do you think would happen if a washer wasn’t put back?
Aw thanks, my Dad will be happy with that comment. He wrote the music on this video. I use music that both my Dad and partner have written. They have accounts on soundcloud (Softbass and Kirk Brandham). Quite funny really as the music they write is nothing like the music they enjoy listening to, they’re both in to prog rock and metal, yet their tracks are more synth/abstract.
@@HaynesGarage Re: the washer, probably nothing for a long time - but without the washer those starter gears may develop more play over time and then fail to engage fully with the crankshaft gear (because it would slide on the shaft).
That's wonderful you have such musical people in your life. I recognized Electronica Veronica and Trance. Your dad is such a great experimenter! He clearly has loved music for so long. I like that he isn't afraid to explore anything - like the meditative piano. I feel the same way. I don't play piano but I can sit down at a piano and make sounds for hours. And I could easily spend a lifetime in a room full of instruments and equipment. I would have loved to be making music in the late 70's early 80's.
Nicely Done thanks for the upload and have Fun with the bike
Thought you were supposed to paint that cover in black like clutch cover too
. May be next time!
Opening that cover will be easier without damage in gasket. Nicely done!
Hehe, perhaps I should have done that to make it match although part of me feels like the silver represents Monsters sensible, tame side and the black represents her slightly mischievous side ;)
Hi Katy could you confirm what you added to the gasket just before installing it did you use any sealant etc, and where did you purchase the gasket from, I have a F650GS 2003 with very similar issues to yours and want to check the crank internals for issues, currently none starter as fuel pump is not being initialized at start.
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your bike too. How many miles is yours on?
I didn’t use any sealant, just a thin layer of blue grease, and I bought it from motor works. Hope that helps.
what kind of oil are you pouring into the engine? and how did she prove herself?
Hi Andrey, I use 10w/40 part synthetic. I used an open bottle that I had bought for her last oil change to flush the system through (a cheaper Halfords brand), and I’ve bought Castrol, a more expensive brand to put in once I’ve installed the oil line. To be honest though I’ve always used Halfords oil (other than when I was in Russia) and I’ve never had any problems. :)
