    Wonderful backyard! I'm also a Minnesotan. I always find it so amusing how many folks from other states and countries think of Minnesota as 'The Frozen Tundra'! It's anything BUT! Our summers rival any deep south climate! Hot and humid...which I absolutely love! I feel we have the best of everything here! Winters that bring everyone indoors to snuggle in front of a roaring fire and allow time for rest and reflection, while also satisfying the snow loving outdoor enthusiasts. Springs that deliver new life and glorious budding beauty, with the anticipation of endless possibilities...whether in the planning of a garden, or in the dreams of a grand adventure. Summers that seem never-ending, with enough lakes to fill every teenagers yearning of finding a heart-throb during the family's up north cabin vacation, or the warm and lazy shore lapping sounds that bring relief to a stress filled life. Falls that freely display breath-taking colors and beauty beyond imagination, all while offering up bountiful harvests and the joy that comes with a pantry filled with Mason jars of deliciousness! We sometimes forget how blessed we are to live in this 'Hidden Treasure'...Minnesota! Great job on your video! I truly enjoyed it!

    Thoroughly enjoyed this garden tour. Speaks to me because it is about a “ normal” garden, a personal garden, a realistic space.

    Thoroughly enjoyable tour. Love how low key the gardener was. I can see being friends with her. Anyway, just also wanted to say that, when I was typing in the internet address of the birdhouse builder, I was certain I was being taken to the Dark Web. I have never typed in such a cryptic address. Luckily, it is, indeed the home of a birdhouse builder. Phew! Cheers, a Fellow Gardener from Toronto :)

    Just found your channel and absolutely love it. Yours is my dream garden. Yes, dream! You have natural ability for placement and I appreciate your explanation and advice. I laughed along with you. I also like your choices and willingness to keep adding and see where it leads. I loved everything about this video and will look for more from you. Wow, I better get to work! It's nice to share a passion (or see) from someone that I don't even know! One question," Who is your handyman to do all of that heavy planting?" I could really use the help for my dream!! Thank you for inspiration! Best of success with your channel!

      Deb’s reply:
      You are too kind in your praise. But Sheri really, who’s my handyman? I am the designer, the nurturer, and the brawn-the total gardener package! This spring I spent 6 hours planting 3 pots of orange poppies. Yes, 6 hours spent in perfect flow state. Past poppy plantings in a different garden area had died out and who doesn’t want poppies?!? After my heavy editing of excessive phlox and gooseneck loosestrife, relocating plants that had seeded or crept, and just creating a little space between specimens, I wondered at what age all that digging and pulling was going to wear me out. I love my dirt time and it helps keep me healthy (mind, body, and soul). The contribution of the handyman-my husband-is to mow the lawn (only because he insisted on an electric mower than is a bit heavy for me on our front slope.) I give my husband credit for reverse framing my art work.

    How do u overwinter geraniums? Garden looks beautiful

    • @frenchriver9878
      @frenchriver9878  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deb’s reply:
      Thanks for the compliment! I’m blushing. I read variations on how to bare root overwinter geraniums. Here’s what I have done successfully for several years: Before a hard frost, dig up or unpot the geraniums. Wash dirt from roots. Wrap roots loosely in newspaper (may not be necessary). Place plants in large paper bags and store out of the way in basement in cool, dry area (I hang two bags from joists and set one on top of a bin of rags). About once a month, check on the plants. Shake/break off dry leaves and put them in the compost bin. Soak roots in water several minutes or just rinse heavily so when they are rewrapped in newspaper it holds water for a while. When you get antsy in the spring, soak roots in a bucket of water 20-30 minutes and then plant in pots. They will likely already have started putting out anemic looking growth and even trying to flower.
      Here’s one link for you. Also search on “overwinter bare root geraniums.” hortnews.extension.iastate.edu/faq/how-do-you-over-winter-geraniums-bare-root-plants
      After you've tried bare root overwintering, I suggest also experimenting with making new plants by rooting cuttings in water as another gardening adventure. So fun to experiment-nothing lost for trying!

    I like yr garden but need some work, look messy and crowded. Bet keep yr yard in shape can be full time job for you alone due very big. You use fertilizer? I don't mine at all, no chemical at all, pure organic still lusty.
