    Mitch consider dumping the Peleton and get a smart trainer like a Tacx. It's a world of difference riding out of the saddle on a trainer; you don't have the inertia of the flywheel to help carry your pedal stroke.

    I have used my lifecycle IC7 on swift with just a heart rate monitor and the HR2VP app, guessing on the hills and such. I love that bike and using zwift I tend to ride a lot longer and harder, but it’s still nothing like using my smart trainer with my trek. I rarely ever use it for that anymore, just spin classes to shake things up. But if you can’t afford a smart trainer and can get a cheap spin bike, the app definitely allows you to use zwift which can help your motivation to ride.

    Power meter is very accurate and it is not the trainer that makes you ride better it is your effort that moves you in Zwift I have a power metre on my peloton and have been riding it with Zwift since beginning of the year. Nothing motivates me more than Zwift with the training plans group workouts club rides social rides friend meet ups personal goals etc at 12.99 per month it beats peloton hands down

      I was wrong :( there are only two ways to do it-power meter pedals or a third party attachment like the Shift Smart Trainer. Still need to make a video comparing the two. So far, the pedals seem to be the better option in my opinion.

      I actually use wahoo speed and cadence sensors to ride Zwift using my Stryde bike. Cadence sensor on the crank arm and speed sensor on the wheel. Search TH-cam for Stryde Zwift setup. Eventually I hope yo get power pedals since I hear it’s more accurate but ~$80 for the two wahoo sensors was a perfect price point to just try it out .

I come from a cycling background and would like to know , what are your thoughts on the best bang for my dollar to train for the winter? I have a road bike and iPad to use? It seems a bit expensive to use a Peloton and convert it with the power meter using very expensive pedals. Thank you for your time!

    • @MitchBoyer
      @MitchBoyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm kinda in the same dilemma right now :) Originally, I purchased the Peloton for both me and my fiancee, however, she's started training at Orange Theory and I'm the only one using the Peloton. I'm seriously considering selling it or trading it for a Wahoo Kickr or Tacx Neo.
      There are only two programs Peloton provides for serious cycling training: Discover Your Power Zones and Build Your Power Zones. The courses were good and I was able to increase my FTP from 234 to 275 in less than 4 months. Unfortunately, they don't offer any other programs so I'm afraid I've out grown the primary usefulness.
      I haven't used another trainer, so I cant 100% promote something else, but I would caution against the Peloton (unless you really like their spin classes) 😬

    • @johnpenner1318
      @johnpenner1318 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To Mitch and anyone else. My Boss/friend bought me a Peloton over a year ago. Loved it, but the training is just “ok” if you want the best training plans. With the peloton your going to have to develop your own training plan. If you were to use the 3 zone system (easy/kinda easy)---(upper medium/hard)----(hard/very hard) I would say that the Peloton rides you would “fall into” are upper medium/hard “Z2” most of the cycling coaches suggest staying away from that. They want a lot of upper Z1 and a little bit of Z3 (very hard)
      Mitch, should I get pedals (I could obviously use on any bike) or a Wahoo kicker (no power meter when I’m riding on the road)?

    Hello! Great video and I enjoy the humor for sure 😂. I have a question for you, although I realize you’ve already moved on from this setup. I have the Assioma Duos on my Peloton Bike Plus, both brand new, and oddly enough, I am getting about 30-50 more watts from my pedals over the peloton estimated power. The watts I am getting actually seems more realistic than the Peloton. The Cadence matches up almost perfectly minus the lag from transmitting the info to Zwift. The experience is actually a lot of fun considering this was a move to consider my wife’s ability to ride too, as she isn’t a cyclist. I’d love your thoughts on the wattage difference. I found a chart online of cadence to power on Peloton and that seems to match up to the power I am getting on my Peloton so I dont want to be concerned 👍🏼. As previously stated, I love the humor in your videos 😎

    • @MitchBoyer
      @MitchBoyer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I would trust the Assioma Duos over the Peloton any day of the week-even the Peloton Plus. I believe the Peloton uses an equation based on cadence and simulated speed to calculate an estimated power output, whereas the Assioma use an actual strain gauge and have a claimed accuracy of +/- 1%. Sounds like your Peloton is also inaccurate, underestimating your power instead of inflating it, so a very nice surprise! You’re even stronger than you might have originally thought!

    how do you know what to set the resistance to on the peloton when using zwift?

    • @MitchBoyer
      @MitchBoyer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The power meter pedals operate independently, so the resistance works almost like a regular gear set-just with a single progressive dial instead of set gear combinations. I can adjust the resistance to whatever setting I like. It’s helpful for endurance rides because I can dial in the exact resistance I need to match any power/cadence combo. The only downside is that the resistance does not adjust based on the terrain. It’s purely dependent on the resistance setting I manually set with the knob.

    Hey Mitch,
    Just wanted an update on this setup. Not sure if you answered this question already but if you turn the resistance up on the peloton bike do the pedals register that you are using more power to turn the crank and therefore helps you climb the gradients more easily in zwift or does it not work that way? Also I don't remember in the video but since you can't really coast when you stop pedaling does your character also effectively come to a stop? Could this be corrected by not clipping in and just taking your feet off of the pedal s and letting them spin themselves to a close to stop before continuing on pedaling?

    • @MitchBoyer
      @MitchBoyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Okay I’ll try my best to answer your questions. I’m working on another Peloton/Zwift video so keep an eye out for that.
      1. Yes, if you turn up the resistance the pedals register the change. They operate on their own, so as long as you’re literally pushing harder on them (by spinning faster, standing up, or increasing the resistance) they will reflect the change in output power and that will be registered in Zwift.
      2. You will not feel any difference in effort on the Peloton when you go up or down hills in Zwift. The power meter pedals cannot change the resistance on the Peloton or make it tilt up or down, so 200 watts going uphill feels exactly the same as 200 watts going downhill (this is a bummer)
      3. If you use the brake on the Peloton and abruptly stop your character on Zwift will not stop immediately, they will coast to a stop. You could take your feet off the pedals and let them spin to a stop. The result would be the same as if you were to hit the brake on the Peloton.
      I hope that helps! I think Zwift is a much better experience with a dedicated trainer compared to a Peloton and power meter pedals. There will be a lot more in the video. It will probably come out in December.

      @@MitchBoyer thanks so much for a thorough answer! So basically if you turn up the resistance knob then your character will not drop as much as it did in this video? I'm trying to run zwift on a bike+ and just ant to make sure it will be worth it before tinkering with it.
      I've had motivation issues with hopping on the peloton and am hoping that zwift will be better motivation to actually get on and pedal. I'll be looking forward to your next video, I've been checking in from time to time to see if there have been any updates so I will continue to do so
