  • The new Dodge Hornet is surprisingly really good! It does a nice job of harnessing the Dodge ethos, while also being its own thing. Today we review it and explain why we liked it.

I bought a 2024 GT back in January. I wanted something with respectable performance that was also an "all season" use car. The Hornet appealed to me for those reasons with the way the 2 liter turbo is tuned and having standard AWD. Have to say I'm quite pleased. Its plenty fast and the driving dynamics, especially on twisty back roads (which I drive daily), are excellent. Heavy rain or light snow - no problem. I got the base GT with the Track Pack, Black Out and cold weather packages. Didn't need or want all the stuff the "Plus" package comes with. I really like the interior, and agree there's some "smallness" compared to some similar sized SUVs in the rear seating and cargo areas. But if you don't need to haul around a bunch of people or stuff all the time, and do want something really fun to drive that handles exceptionally well - you can easily get one well-optioned for under $40K (mine was $36K out the door). Anything else close in the performance and handling realm is going to be at or over $40K. No issues with its similarity to the Alfa - nothing car companies haven't already been doing for decades. Besides, you can't get a gas-only Tonale in the US and a PHEV isn't practical for me (also the price goes up considerably for either the Dodge or Alfa plug-in). Totally agree with your assessment of the Hornet GT - spot on.

Thanks for this review!! I have been driving an Acura Integra and need more space to haul musical equipment. I don't want to exceed $40K on a new car and don't need a giant SUV or luxury sedan. This looks like a great option.

I recently rented a Durango (WAY too big for me) but was impressed with the handling, interior, and agree the technology synced easily back to my iPhone.

Like as an alternative to cx50 or outback XT, but those are more family oriented , but theGT+ is supposed to have a panoramic moonroof & cooled seats like a European luxury sports car. Love it as a crossover sit has some practicality like a Tucson but sportier( will it be okay with 87 octane?

if you make a mistake and put 87 instead of 91, you're fine.
