    I am absolutely in love with this baby Brad, regarding the DC/gas fridge, do you remember few years back where some rv's ended up on fire just from that purpose as they ruled it out as faulty hook ups, I think but was blamed on the gas aspect of the unit, so I tend to think safety wise I much prefer electric but to each there own, and being single I could see myself living in this pretty much full time so sending a big shoutout from Arkansas and keep up your amazing videos man !!!

The standard 1172 is a beast, but this one is amazing! I love the theater seating on it! Now, if I only had a “fat butt” to carry it. Great job with the video, and I hope you make 30K + subscribers before November. 😊

    It's great to have the new layout option. I prefer the original layout as I like the outside storage in the old dinette, but both are good. I prefer the 13 volt electric fridge. I install a DC to DC converter to keep the Lifepo4 Lithium batteries charged, plus I carry 400 watts on solar that is ground mounted when dry camping. When I am remote for 6 months it is a PIA to haul the extra propane, etc. I have been a solar guy for 35 years though.

  • @RVCAMPINMAN

    I am with you Brad. 2-Way Propane/AC is the way to go. Don't need to worry about solar, expensive upgraded battery banks...whether or not you are going to get enough sun that day, can't park in the shade.. if your solar is rooftop mounted ..etc etc. Propane will last ages and only sips the slightest bit of juice for the control panel. I don't get the love affair with 12v these days!

    • @itsbrad
      @itsbrad  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RVCAMPINMAN I don’t either, it’s just a new fad for people to follow that haven’t used them imo. Just like the incredible amounts of solar, batteries, inverters, etc people started raving about a couple years ago. Starting to see more and more people this year hop off the train and going back to generators. If something works, great! But I’m not giving up the gas/ac fridges and generator anytime soon.

    Don't have a 12v fridge, but they are getting more popular and more efficient. I *believe* you just need extra solar to make it worth it. I did some crude math using some online calculators... a random Furrion 8 cu ft fridge says it consumes 1.08kWh per day. Which converts to 90ah/day. I think most RV batteries are like what 100ah? So you would essentially be dedicating an entire battery to running the fridge for one day. So you need about one 200w solar panel to charge one 100ah battery in a day, assuming it isn't being drawn from. So essentially just reserve one battery and one 200w solar panel for JUST your 12v fridge in your calculations and you *should* be good. BTW I have no idea what I'm talking about and only spent like 30 seconds googling this :D. But also, the Cirrus 920 is probably their lineups' equivalent for the Lance 1172, and it now comes with 930w of solar & 810ah of lithium batteries optional and comes standard with a 12v 8cu ft fridge & electric cooktop. The Arctic Fox 811 also has a 12v 8cu ft Furrion fridge as a standard option, and I believe theirs comes with about 800w of solar. So take all that with a grain of salt. Looks like you just want about double the normal solar when running a 12v fridge. But back to my original point of: you essentially just need enough solar to cover the needs of the 12v and I'm guessing it's almost preferable as you theoretically won't run out, like you eventually will with propane. Propane is still top dog and hella efficient. But solar and batteries are catching up. Really excited for us to get a new camper and go off grid, if you can't tell lol. If anyone has some actual real world experience or actual scientific insight, please correct me.

      @@7inchexhaust I appreciate your well thought out comment and taking the time to share!
      Here’s some personal experience on my end - both fridges I’ve had when running on 12v (one a Norcold 3 way and the other a Truma ac/dc) when running on 12v would suck the batteries dry within 36 hours, the Norcold quicker. My set up with the Norcold was two 100ah lithiums and 200watts of solar. Highly annoying when you need juice to run the jacks up to back the truck underneath lol my second was two 100ah lithiums and 380watts of solar. Even though it made it longer, still died in a timeframe of 36 hours.
      A recent 1172 I had with the new standard 12v only option died within a couple days during PDI when I did not have it plugged into ac. 3 separate experiences will have me dodging 12v fridges from here on out. I’m good with a 3 way and running on dc on trips while plugged into the truck charging, but not solely 12v.
      Lance is working on a similar solar, lithium, inverter package, but I won’t be ordering for any stock units, only custom orders for customers. Takes up too much valuable storage space, too expensive, adds weight, never get 100% full exposure on solar, etc. seems like a fire hazard to me as well lol give me the trusted ole generator. They’re tried and proven for half a century or more now, and insanely efficient and quieter now as well.

      @@DreamingOutloudRVing we had one we hauled around everywhere (with a 21’ Ranger Bassboat) in a 2017 F-350 dually Platinum FX4 with the 6.7 diesel. Payload was somewhere between 5.6-5.8klbs if I remember correctly. We upgraded the sway bar and put the airlift bags on and the truck acted like it didn’t notice the load lol still half the weight of the axle ratings. If you’re concerned about payload, the F350 or a 3500 are the only trucks you’re going to put it in. Once you step up to the 450 like we have now you lose payload since they don’t rate them any higher to keep them in a residential licensing category. Being that the truck weighs more, it took our same optioned 450 to 4,600lbs which is BS because we don’t have any suspension support and can do the same thing lol funny how they come up with payloads. We go by axle ratings

    So the 12v compressor fridges only draw 70-100 watts an hour. A single 12v 100a/h lithium battery has 1000-1100 watts. So 300 watts of solar and 2 batteries can run fridge indefinitely. And they don’t burn down your camper when a dirt dauber builds a nest in the vents.

    • @itsbrad
      @itsbrad  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both fridges I’ve had when running on 12v have died within a day and half, both sets ups with two 100ah lithium batteries, first set up with 200watts of solar, second set up with 380watts of solar. Thing is, you’re hardly ever getting full direct exposure from solar. The new 12v only fridges they’re putting in the 975, 1062, & 1172 standard still died on me during PDI with two 100ah lithiums and 200watts solar. Too much of a hassle to deal with for me when I want my batteries to have juice to run my jacks up and down and run my slide in and out.
      I’ve never had an issue with a camper burning down due to a fridge (or anything for that matter lol)

      In addition to not using much power, they don't need vents to the outside of the camper and they have more room inside for beer and they cool about 2x as fast.

    • @ClayBellBrews
      @ClayBellBrews หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@itsbrad That actually sounds about right. 70 watt draw should last about 30ish hours if you are not re-charging. But even 200 watt’s of solar would extend that by 20hours, assuming you park where you can get some sun. Mine runs 24/7, no A/C, in the texas summer, in deep freeze mode on 380w solar and 2 batteries. It’s a chest type cooler/freezer and I think it averages about 56w/h.

    I have a 1993 Lance truck camper. If I'm being honest......both floor plans on the 1172 are shitty. There isn't any real lounging space in them. The seating position to stare at the tv is in a dumb spot. Anybody that walks back and forth to the bed or the bath would walk right in front of the tv. And the kitchen is a joke. Zero countertop space. Almost 5,000 pounds dry and you need to add your own usable countertop space. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻 The 1062 is better for me. The Host campers at least give you an actual "tv lounging area". People will say....."it's a truck camper, you should be outside doing things". Well, for $70,000+......I better be able to do everything inside that thing comfortably. Crappy tv area. Crappy kitchen. Nice bathroom. Not worth the money to me. Great videos as usual though. 🤙🤙
