  • In this episode of the Pursuit of Wellness podcast, I’m excited to sit down with the incredible Dr. Mindy Pelz ‪@DrMindyPelz‬ a world-renowned women’s health expert.
Sign up to my personal newsletter: marillewellyn.com
We dive deep into topics that every woman should know about, including the profound impact of birth control on our hormones, cortisol levels, and overall health. Dr. Mindy shares eye-opening insights on how long-term birth control use can disrupt our natural hormone cycles, leading to issues like low estrogen and progesterone.
We also explore the power of the Dutch test as a game-changing tool for understanding our hormone levels more accurately than traditional blood tests.
Dr. Mindy explains how fasting, when done in sync with our menstrual cycles, can boost estrogen, manage cortisol, and support overall wellness.
I’m passionate about empowering women to take control of their health, and this episode is packed with actionable advice.
Learn how to tailor your diet and fasting regimen to your cycle, discover the benefits of syncing your lifestyle with your hormones, and find out how fasting can improve fat metabolism, reduce inflammation, and even help with muscle building.
If you’re interested in holistic health, optimizing your fertility, or simply understanding your body better, this conversation with Dr. Mindy is a must-watch

This is such an amazing episode. My doctors literally told me the pill would HELP my ability to conceive in the future. They said it protects your reproductive system. It makes me so angry. I stopped it about 9 months ago and am just focusing on being as healthy as possible now.

Just to give you some peace , started my birth control pill when was 16, age 29 first child ( got pregnant straight away), then pills again , second baby 3y later ( got pregnant straight away) then pill again and last baby age 40 ( got pregnant straight away) , so don’t be too alarmed, obv I could be just lucky , but also I never change my pills, the same brand

To add to this. Started birth control when I was 16. I took the same pill the whole time. When my husband and I went to get pregnant I was 38, was off the pill for 2 months and the first time tried I got pregnant. So just because you have taken birth control doesn’t mean you’re going to have a hard time getting pregnant.

Fermented sauerkraut is made with water and salt and is found in the refrigerator at the grocery.
If made with vinegar, it is pickled not fermented. That goes for all veggies.

Great episode! As someone who got off the pill, didn’t have a period for 8 months and found out I had PCOS I wanted to share a few things that have helped me. Drinking spearmint tea every day for 6 months helped me lower my testosterone. Also, I’ve been using the Oura ring and linking it to the Natural Cycles app to track my cycle. This is super helpful is learning about your body!

I'm so happy I stumbled across Mindy Pelz!! Can't stop watching inrerviews/podcasts with her.
About 6 years ago I was doing keto with my bf at the time, and I was having issues with my period (I'm 29 now and stopped taking birth control at 16- got off it the same exact year because I became very skeptical of messing with my bodies natural process- so I've have fairly decent on-time periods with an occasional late/early period). My bf att used to be hard on me when I would eat carbs (bread mostly, not vegetables, ngl 😅) and it used to REALLY disappoint him if I broke my state of ketosis. I finally ended the diet altogether, to keep him from being disappointed in me but I stg I used to tell him "you don't understand! I feel like I NEED carbs right now" and now I understand, after watching Dr. Pelz explain all of this. I wish I could send these to my ex, now, and be like " SEE, I TOLD YOU 😂".
Anyways, long story short, listening to Mindy Pelz has been amazing and I can't wait to get her book. I've shared this episode with all my favorite ladies in my life.

I take the pill for many years continuously because : it makes my pms less horrible, it minimizes the terrible period pain I used to have. As a professional woman I just can't afford to have terrible moodiness for a week or 10 days and another week of bleeding ... That's 1\3 of my month .... I tried getting off the pill but the symptoms of having a normal cycle is really hard to bear in my case. Anyone relates ?

    • @bobslightbulb
      @bobslightbulb 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Sis, I feel exactly the same! For two weeks out of a month, I would simply be less productive because of moodiness, pains and other symptoms - both mental and physical. I would be emotionally all over the place, my skin would be in terrible condition, the pain would be too unbearable to do the physical work that I have to do professionally. After finding a pill that works for me, my life has been much more balanced in every aspect. I can live the fulfilling life professionally and otherwise that I want to, and my relationships are much healthier now than before. I have heard similar experiences from so many women I know: the pill has been, literally, a life saver. I think it would be better to recognise this about the pill than condemn women for taking them because they mess with your so-called natural way of being. We are all just trying to survive here, and live our best lives.

Same here! Most women with endo can't function without hormonal pills. If not for them my periods are horrible and almost half the month I'm in terrible pain. I'm also very interested in prolonged fasting, so it would be good if we could get a bit of info on how our cycles vary and how/when to fast while on the pill instead of just demonizing us lol

@@Ivanaandreo ugh exactly. Some of us don't really have a choice... What are we supposed to do? I thought of maybe just following a pretend cycle treating the pill-free days as a period and then just doing the ovulation type fast when it would be 🤷🏻‍♀️ but dunno if it's a good idea

Really? Are you syncing your cycles with your fasts? Have you tried getting tested for Hpylori, or SIBO? Getting treated for Hpylori made a HUGE difference for me. Also, have you looked into your diet and are you consuming what your body actually likes/craves vs what most people define as “good for you” every “body” is different. I know how much it sucks to have gut issues so I feel for you girl!

How do we deal with endometriosis without the pill? I tried going off of it but it worsened my endometriosis to the point of severely damaging my quality of life from the constant pain :( i do think that new forms of endo focused pills like estradiol valerate are better, but i wish there were more studies on the long term consequences of all these varied hormone therapies
