So many photography tutorials on TH-cam focus on the presenter - a talking head - and less on the images. Your tutorial kept me immersed for its duration, a rare occurrence on TH-cam, and has made me think seriously about the way I compose images. It is a revelation, and I have been taking photographs for more years than I care to remember. You have created a presentation that is second to none that delivers the key concepts. I need to watch this again and again. As an education presenter I can always recognise a teacher. Power to your elbow madam! You are a shining light among mundane photographic educators. Keep these videos coming, please!
Bob... what a lovely comment to leave me. Made my day. I'm so glad you've found inspiration here. I don't post new videos terribly often, but I think if you hit the bell and subscribe, you'll be notified when there's a new one. I'm thinking about one on high key and low key next.
I have watched this again and it's one of the very few TH-cam videos that actually excites me, gives me a wealth of ideas and makes me want to grab my camera and get out. Many, many thanks Judy.
This is a fundamental truth you are covering with minimalism. You instantly changed my mind and forever. I can’t wait to go out there and train my new eyes onto this world.
I've been an avid amateur photographer for more than 30 years. This is one of the best lectures (webinars) I have ever seen. You gave us so much valuable information! Lately, I've been wondering "what's the point". Your words and images have inspired a new approach and goal for me. Thanks so much for sharing your experience, knowledge and images!
I didn't know why I found minimalism so appealing, but I think you helped show me why in this video. "Essence." It's the finer details. It's the new perspective. It's the raw wonder and appreciation for simplicity that just evokes emotion for some inexplicable reason. And at the end you said something very meaningful, "if it speaks to you, go for it." I've always felt like minimalist photography wasn't worth showing to others, because it just looks so simple, but I like it so I shouldn't be embarrassed that it is simple. Thank you.
Thanks, Nate.I'm so glad this spoke to you. In this busy, crazy world, we can all benefit from a little simplicity. Keep shooting! Thanks for your kindness in responding.
Very inspiring. I love the way you start wide, as one would likely see the scene and then work your way to an essential view. Thank you for this presentation.
i almost never give feedback or comment on any post or video that i see... but this video of yours was probably the best i've ever seen... very emotional on so many levels... i'm very grateful that i had the chance to see it! thank you so much, it was extremely motivating and inspiring! you changed the world with this, i hope you know that! thank you!
Absolutely one of the best presentations I have seen anywhere. Practical, down to earth and actionable. Thank you for all of the effort you have put into this work. I am out the door first thing in the morning with a macro lens.
@@judyhancockholland8007 I began using this approach during my figure drawing classes as a Freshman in college in 1968, and in my (amateur) photography! Always looking at/for the angles, and patterns of dark and light. I found myself almost holding my breath while watching this video. Thank you!!
excellent video. Without all this fanciness of visual effects and pretentious music. Pure knowledge and isnpiration in its simplest form. After watching so many videos about photography, this presentation was an oasis. Thank you for sharing.
Oh wow, I just stumbled across this webinar when looking for guidance on this subject and it has awakened something within me! I’ve watched so many tutorials on all kinds of photography and this is the most powerful I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and inspiration ☺️
I have admired minimalist photography in recent years and have the desire to look less at other's work and actually begin to do it myself. I've worked with a camera for over 50 years. Most of what I've done has been in fashion shots Or interpretive Portraiture. I have won some awards, but I preached the stage where Need to get more out of What I'm doing And I think I found What I've been looking for In minimalist photography. I learned so much From your 37 minutes Presenting The essence of what minimalist photography is all about. The information I received from listening to you has given me great insight and inspiration. I can't wait to get out into the world with my camera And look for the details like you described with examples. Thank you so much For sharing your knowledge In helping someone like me understand that there is so much more that can be done with my camera
I love this; I've been moving more and more toward minimalism in my music, and recently began to appreciate artists like Mark Rothko. This video has really helped me to wrap my head around photography as a minimalist art form. To some extent, it feels like learning things that we inherently know, but need help to recognize and clarify.
This was outstanding! I think and visualize along these lines naturally, but I feel this took me just another step further.... challenging me to just push it at little further and to remember there are perfectly fine good pictures to look at and then there are great photographs to feel. A 36 minute workshop would normally have my mind wandering, but I was captivated every step of the way with this workshop. Looking forward to seeing your event at Sparta Camera Club this month. Well done!!!!!
I’ll try to be minimalist in my observations 😊. You have really nailed it. I imagine you are bursting with gratitude, recognizing beauty, everywhere. Truly wonderful, and an inspiration. Thank you for sharing this insight, Judy. Liked and subscribed
This was beautifully done! I enjoyed your knowledge as well as your tone in teaching. Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I look forward to incorporating it to my photography work!
I just stumbled across this. One of the most useful videos I’ve seen on TH-cam. Inspires me to revisit some photos and see what minimalist details hide within them - a good way of spending a cold winter evening.
Amazing. I wondered, it’s so simple , explanatory and inspirational. A teacher can only deliver like this. Expecting more tutorials about the Art of Photography ❤️
I have just stumbled across this wonderful video....and wished I had seen it MUCH earlier. This is one of the best tuition video on minimilism in photography that I have ever seen. Others are OK and even very good, but your way of bringing out the powerful feeling of what makes the image special is in a league of it's own. I specifically like the way you show "normal" shots that can be very good as an image - and then show us what can be achieved by looking for the important parts. This comarison way of showing how to look further into an image is what sets your work apart. I feel invigorated to take my minilistic photography to a higher level. The mantra of "making the familiar look unfamiliar" is so well depicted in this video - Thank you so much for this.
Love the tutorial. Excellent. I once was denied entry in a minimalist art show. I was told the three judges spent twenty minutes discussing my piece. I was told they wanted more. My reaction was, I won . . .

True to the subject line, Judy has kept the entire presentation MINIMAL, simple, to the subject, and about the subject. No words are enough to praise her work. Absolutely recommended to watch, follow, and fall in love.
What an absolutely powerful presentation. I adored this much. Did your photographs evoke emotion? I have no shame some brought tears to my eyes. God bless...

This is one of the best webinars I have come across on TH-cam, or any other online platform. I have always wanted to shoot simple things that we see and by-pass everyday. I could never identify it. Now thanks to you, I can.
Judy after hundreds TH-cam videos I watched your video today and you gave me an answer immediately! I tried wildlife, birds in flight....and many more but I kept on going back to what I called "Up close and personal" All the way from South Africa a big Thanks, this is by far the best video ever!
So many comments below express already exactly what I think of this great video... thx you Judy, for sharing your huge knowledge and experience with us...
I felt i couldn't develope my photography much more and then... this masterpiece poped up. I didn't kow, but obviously this is exactly what i require to make it to the next level. Judy, thanks for making this! If you have the time, please continue you fantastic work. One day, people will understand, this is what they reaquires and not the latest gears.
Wonderful speech with extraordinary examples to show and tell! Brief, clear, beautiful and powerful! I love it! I learned something that I thought I knew already but in fact not. Thank you so much!!!
This is what I have been searching for after many years of photographic soul searching. I could not visualize it better. I found my way today. Thanks very much, Judy.
I appreciate the work you put into this. And it's quite refreshing in a sea of sensationalist "Look at me!" content where people are either doing them for clicks/gratification or in/direct financial reward in terms of ads/sponsorship etc. Whereas you have taken the time to simply share some really well curated content out of a spirit of generosity. Thank you.
I am moved by your work and grateful for your clear analysis and suggestions. Your photographs, especially of flowers, create the urge in me to move in that direction. I am grateful for your teaching.
I wish I had seen this video before I ventured out in the winter landscape in the weekend. You have given me great ideas for impactful photos I should be able to find in the snowy forest. I hope the snow is still there next weekend. Thanks a lot for this
Judy, I can't express enough how inspiring your video is. I watched already a lot of tutorials her on youtube but this one truly stands out in many wonderful ways. In the same way you compose your photographs you also narrow the explanations down to the absolutely essence. Thank you so much for this tutorial! Looking forward to see more and will subscribe to your channel straight away plus telling some photographer friends about you.
Hi, couple of month ago i started to simplify and simplify my already taken photos. But since i watched this video, something has changed and i just feel a very confortable sensation because i knew from the begining that's the path i wanted to follow, the path of seeing the world around me in another way, in a closely way, in a simplify way. I came across your video by chance, but I'm glad I watched it. Not only did I learn a lot and see a different aspect of photography in general, but I felt homesick.... I lived in Nanaimo for several years and even recognized some of the locations of your images in an instant, I'm now back in Europe. By just looking at your images I could smell the air of the Island and feel what I have been missing. Thank you, Judy!
Hi Judy. Thanks for sharing. You highlight perfectly the fact that not only Devil is in the details ! However, I think each photographer has his own way to see and shoot the world. As you mentioned, it's all a question of feelings, sensations, inspiration, personal aesthetic, relationship you have with your environment and your gear, and what guides your pictures. For me it's mainly contrasts and humour. Or capturing emotion between two people (or more). That's why minimalist pictures only represents less than 10% of my pictures. But I really appreciate them !
Absolutely stunning teaching about grace and beauty, I'm watching little by little to savour as much as I can the details of this lesson about how less is more
Great video Judy, could you add comments or maybe another video on lighting for your images please? While the images are beautifully minimalist, the lighting also brings out the texture, emphasises form and atmosphere. Thanks.
It's March of 2022 and I wishing I had discovered this video sooner. What a treat to find another artist that "sees" much the same way I do. Knowing I have an exhibit this coming June and struggling with what to present, you have provided the answer, thank-you! Your comment about needing something less complicated rings especially true after two years of the "damnpenic". I believe that people are seeking something uncluttered and peaceful at this time.
Extremely well done video. I learned a ton about minimalist photography. I haven't picked up my camera in more than 8 years and this makes me want to start shooting again.
Great! Your work is beautiful and inspiring. I have been shooting about 3 years now and have dabbled just about every genre. Your work really inspires me. However, I have never really found my niche. Stumbled on this video for the first in a while and WOW! Outside or office. Less is more. Thanks Thanks Thanks
Just found this Judy, was not looking for minimalist but has always been one on my wait list to do, while watching I realized this is very much where my photography journey has been trying to head me. Thank you very much for this tutorial.
I have been trying to 'get into photography' for many years and every now and then get my camera out. But now, having watched this wonderful video I realise what type of photography I am drawn to. I don't understand why I didn't realise it before. I'm feeling very inspired right now. Thank you Judy
Photography allows us to play with light, and your lesson reminds me to be creative and "play" with my art. I have been wanting to break away from the "reality" landscape photos, and capture a more intimate feeling of what I was witnessing. I stumbled upon your 1st video, this one, and realize that this is what I've been attempting to capture all along, only you have put it in a nice package, with a bow on top. Thank you for your minimalist reminder about simplification. I enjoyed your images, and hope to see more videos from you.
Thank you for pointing out things I´ve already been drawn to, but not yet thought through. This video has helped me a lot understanding what I was searching for.
I must say, I am impressed!!! Such a Beaty to watch!!! So artistic all the way!! Couldn't forget what I saw yesterday - it is printed in my mind and in my heart. Had to visit it to day as well 😄 Thank you very much for sharing your experiences and photos with us!!!!

For me it's mainly contrasts and humour. Or capturing emotion between two people (or more). That's why minimalist pictures only represents less than 10% of my pictures. But I really appreciate them !
Thanks for your feedback, Marc. We all shoot in our own way, and that's entirely appropriate.
Absolutely stunning teaching about grace and beauty, I'm watching little by little to savour as much as I can the details of this lesson about how less is more
Wonderful!
Great video Judy, could you add comments or maybe another video on lighting for your images please? While the images are beautifully minimalist, the lighting also brings out the texture, emphasises form and atmosphere. Thanks.
Noted!
I believe, I have mastered the art of minimalist photography.. after watching this video. Tnks a lot ❤️❣️❣️
My pleasure 😊
Serene. Inspiring. Mindful. Perceptive. Elegant.

Glad you enjoyed it!
one of the best presentations on minimalism...Thanks for doing this.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Extremely well done video. I learned a ton about minimalist photography. I haven't picked up my camera in more than 8 years and this makes me want to start shooting again.
Wonderful!
Can not find words to express enough how grateful I am for this presentation. Thank you. It made a change in me that I needed.
What a lovely comment! You are so welcome!
This was such a well done tutorial. Thank you so much, and greetings from across the pond (North Van).
You're very welcome!
Thanks for your comment, Sterling. I'm so glad you found this helpful and inspiring.
Just found this Judy, was not looking for minimalist but has always been one on my wait list to do, while watching I realized this is very much where my photography journey has been trying to head me. Thank you very much for this tutorial.
You are so welcome!
I have been trying to 'get into photography' for many years and every now and then get my camera out. But now, having watched this wonderful video I realise what type of photography I am drawn to. I don't understand why I didn't realise it before. I'm feeling very inspired right now. Thank you Judy
That's so awesome! Keep practising "seeing" and shoot what you love!
Thanks, Lav. Yes, I find minimalism quite an intimate form of expression.
Thank you for pointing out things I´ve already been drawn to, but not yet thought through. This video has helped me a lot understanding what I was searching for.
I'm so glad!
Probably the most inspiring video about photography I have seen.
