24:18 I read that the Spanish air force make a test and get 1 hit of 10 fired, the radar guided was very poor, and the IR guided slightly better. The South African air force directly do not autorize their pilots use them considering them dangerous. The missile was designed to use vs high level bombers in strait flight, never vs fighters, evasive targets, and didnt have any kind of countermessure capability, so chaff, flares or even the Sun will call the missile. But somehow, its stay in service until middle 80s in the french navy F-8s, and the USA/UK considered it similar to the aim-7E.
AIM-7E actually had a hit rate of 15% in Vietnam, 10% kill rate. The emphasis being that this was the rate overall. The main issue being to maintain a radar lock with the launching aircraft. Even so 57.5% of USAF kills in Vietnam were with the Sparrow. Basically the problem is more with the Mechanics of firing a SARH missile rather than the SARH missile itself.
A pretty poor performed the R-530 missile was. I don't get why the French didn't improved their large stock to a more sophisticated variant in the 70s, replacing components and improving electronics. I do think that same late 1960s era AIM-7 was a way better Missile. R-530 is worse than not using anything, i'd pick 2x AIM-9J or AIM-9P or R-550 Magic 1 only anytime, that at least won't add any extra weight... since Any countermeassure will fool the R-530
@@jotabe1984 Well, i think they got 2 problems to solve. first is the time and money they invested in I+D. The Cyrano 4 is just an improved cyrano 2 bis from the Mirage 3, and the R-530 came from tecnology from the 50s. They go directly to the super 530F, later the D. The same they go in the radar from the M2000, not what they want, but what they can make. (long range pulse, short range doppler and finally long range doppler). Same with with the use of 9-B in Mirage 3 until they get the Magic 1.
@@jotabe1984 probably because you don't know squat, we of course knew the 530 was a poor missile, bearly scoring a 12% hit rate with a truck load of mal function both with the mirage III and the crusader. That's why the super 530 F missile dev began between 1968 and 1970, with the first fully guided shot fired in 1974. It would fairer to compare it to the falcons than to the sparrows that were already more advanced being shot from a Phantom's radar.
I have just got the Mirage F1 Module and been playing around with it myself. Your right Cap when you say it feels buggy. I also think your right when you say it may be just how plane is in real life, after all its French. Its like on old Citroen, none of the switches are where they supposed to be like in a standard car, the interior is dark and weird and there's always some electrical fault causing some system on the car not to work.
The Tel - Center - BPZ switch is a 3 position switch (obviously). If it's correct and BPZ is only working after first switching to Tel and then to BPZ, then it is a bug for sure. In the real plane you can't directly switch from Tel to BPZ because of the center position.
Thank's Cap for the break down, but I still think I need six years of Harvard and about four at MIT to learn that radar lol. 😋 Seriously though, I think with lots of practice and patience we can get use to the basics.
I do believe I will hold off until the developer has had some feedback sorts out some of the issues and comes out with 2.0. And like all DCS aircraft, the trick is binding the right commands to the right controller, and then keeping them straight in your head. Controls mapped to, say, the Frogfoot become familiar while you're focusing on that aircraft. Then you hop in the Apache and it's a whole new set of commands. In a sim like MSFS 2020, the same controls are applied to all aircraft. G cycles the landing gear in all planes. Not so in DCS. G may drop a bomb if that's mapped. But the early access looks stunning. This is going to be a nice plane once they finish it.
MMM the telemetry ACM mode should work like the F-5 gun acm mode, considering you locked your target first with the TEL mode and set the firing range as you want, the piper should calculate lead accordingly. Otherwise it would be nothing but a p-47 gyrosight right cap?, and as dumb as we french may be, we used radar telemetry on gunsights since the mystere IV.
Super 530F will be available soon. From the 8th July DCS World Development report: "After the Early Access release of the Mirage F1, the immediate focus of the Aerges Engineering team will be on completing the remaining Mirage F1 CE work-in-progress systems. In particular, several radar scan modes, the radio navigation modes of the autopilot, and the implementation of the S530F ‘Supermatra’ missile."
So, from what I can find (which isn't very certain), I don't think the F1CE has a pulse-doppler radar. This should mean that it has bad look-down performance, but it's also not vulnerable to notching. If you run out of better things to test, it'd be nice to see if it's modelled that way.
Your tutorials are fantastic. You’re a natural teacher and you break it down in layman‘s way that anyone would be able to understand. For the sake of the community, I hope you keep it up. Thank you again Cap. 👍
I haven’t read the manual fully yet, is the “E” mode for the radar tilting in azimuth bars? So +1 would be about 4 to 6 degrees up with a 3 or 4 degree scan cone?
Sumarizing: a weird complex buggy machine... in good old French technology fashion EDIT: i'm speaking about Cyrano IV Radar AND R-530 Matra in their 2 IR and SARH variants
Hi! Do you have any plans for adding a x56 file for the Mirage f1? I find it very difficult to do a proper setup, and there is almost no help available anywhere...
At what range is the altitude adjustment for the radar? If the radar is hitting a target 5000 feet below you at a hypotenuse distance of 10nm a target at 20nm will be far below 5000 feet, right?
I don't know if it's funny or sad that so many people confuse real world possibilities and limitations of weapons systems with the capabilities of this simulator. Love the videos!
Pretty much ALL the French technology is quirky. They always follow some logic of their own and there is usually a method to their "madness". For example, French cars. Though lately they largely abandoned it but there is always something... The most extreme case being Citroen. They had this weird suspension, very complex. Brakes and suspension were one system and it would level up your car always, at the height you desire from the ground even if you had a flat tire; you could easily not even notice that, cos the car would be level even then. Downside? If your hydraulic fluid leaks for some reason, you lose both suspension AND brakes while driving... Also, position of switches and stuff... Really awkward, look up a video about it in order to believe it (for example, Citroen SX). Lately, not so bad. I own a Citroen and the only quirk I could find was the position of switches for power windows. In front of gear stick, basically on the floor! Same with weapons... I remember a vid about some sniper rifle of theirs where scope settings were reverse to what everybody else does... Elevation is where everybody else puts windage and vice versa... Bolt action rifles: everybody puts bolt lock to the front, the French put it at the back... There is always a reason, not to make this comment even longer... So, if the controls and way of work are awkward - that's probably 100% true and 100% French!
WHY can you not make your pointer kurser brighter and larger beecause it dissappears at times ????????????????????? Thankyou. All the instructions were useless because of haveing to find your pointer!

No, it's NOT a Pulse Doppler Radar 👍🏽
It is an MTI radar however, so it can distinguish between ground clutter and a moving target.
