Hello again!
The first track on our latest album of acoustic covers is this gentle little rendition of There She Goes by The La's - certainly one of the most iconic opening riffs of all time and a massively catchy song in general. In fact, NME reckons it's the 22nd best song of all time.
We gave it a little slowed down intro, which caused the few folks who've already heard it to assume we had mis-labelled a cover of 'When You Say Nothing At All'' ... we'd like to assure you this is not the case and we resent the implication 🤣
It was nice to be able to get out of the house for this current run of videos, having filmed most of 2020 and 2021's output in what used to be our living room. The camera really likes having a bit of depth between the subject and the background, and it really doesn't hurt to have a bunch of fairy lights kicking around, too!

You have a gift for taking songs that in many cases are so iconic as to be theoretically un-coverable, then somehow making them your own in a way that transcends direct comparison. Not better, not worse, just uniquely and perfectly different. Please don't ever stop doing this.

Yikes, this is magnificent. So delicate, such finesse. The vocals are gorgeous, and the ukelele... who'd-a-thought? It's PERFECT. But so much more than that. The ARRANGEMENT is splended. When you are going through the intro, nobody would know what's coming until you pause and then wryly go into the famous "riff".

Cool recover remind Me....
This is a wonderful interpretation of the song Matt and Sophie - I had forgotten how long ago this song was out (1990 - why that's nearly a pound in old money), it always seems like a recent release, but then I am reaching "that awkward age." Never worry I shall grow out of it in about another thirty years I guess LOL! Is there anything a Ukulele can't do? (Probably not, unless you start expecting it to perform brain surgery, or discuss the relevance of the Male-Gaze in the history of film and theatre. Even then I bet most Ukuleles would probably make more sense than the average A-Level Student!!)

You know what's funny about this? I always assumed this was a song from the late 60s or early 70s! I don't know why, it just has that simple, melodic feel to it I suppose. Of course, if I had a brain in my nut I'd have just listened to the production for ten seconds in order to debunk that belief.
They reckon this was an early prototype of the britpop movement. What say you, sir? Certainly has all the hallmarks...
@@TheDistanceDuo It was a forerunner for sure I think, but more in the way that it caught the essence of what Britpop was becoming, and exploited it artistically to great effect. (The band are from Liverpool, where my wife is from, so I probably know more about them than most other one-hit bands LOL!) If you want to really twist your musical mind up with connections and influences then listen to "There She Goes" by The Velvet Underground (Lou Reed) - it is an interesting thing to hear how the LA's included some "inspirational references" to that song, which was from a much earlier era. So your first thoughts about this song were not all that far from the mark!

Oh neither of us studied music formally, although we really wish we had! We'd certainly be a lot better at improvising, etc.
