    I would rather look at his painting than the actual scene. So much atmosphere and depth, but most importantly so free, full of life, and peaceful. Wonderful work! thanks for sharing.

    Tim, I started out in watercolors many decades ago and transitioned to acrylics which I use almost exclusively now. Your style and method of teaching reinspires my watercolor roots and I thank you for that. And thanks for sharing your tips and talents!

    Summer, lovley summer! I long for it! I will try to copy this, you have catched that happy feeling of moving and breathing, smelling - living and walking on a rural sommer road. Such a nice reminder as I watch your tutorial, now in November, actually my 65 years birthday. - those years have reallly flown! Thank you! I will try to copy that feeling of summer that you created in this tutorial. Though - being a Novemberchild, I just love this dark, cosy time of the year. Short days, long evenings, plenty of opportunity to concentrate on learning to paint watercolor! 👍👏❤️

    This painting really started coming together when you started painting the shadows of the hay bales. Then came the horizontal drop shadows on the road. Wonderful! What often bothers me is the straightness of many country paths when I see them in my reference photos. It is nice to see what difference it makes to put a slight curve in the road!

    I've just now realized how different Saunders- Waterford is to Arches, as I attempted to copy your painting.
    In the past I've only had limited success with capturing the light in your paintings, but it's a quantum step easier with S/W.
    Not sure why yet, but I suspect that it has something to do with difference in sizing...just a theory at the moment.
    Anyway i'd like to thank you for quiet inspiration.:)

    • @pandoraefretum
      @pandoraefretum 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would also like to know the difference between Arches and Saunders.... I see Arches has a more irregular tooth, and that's all I have ever used (apart from some Fabriano) .... maybe I should buy some Saunders and try for myself.

    Love your tutorials... I love the fact that you take the time to comment the entire painting, from the reference image, to the sketch, to the first wash, to the details, without speeding up the video and taking the time to explain your thought process. This is something that is very useful for a beginner like me - almost like having a private lesson with a tutor. Thank you!
    One question: the first wash is very loose in the way it is applied and is used to establish a base color for each parts of the painting, therefore it seems that you use much more water, letting the strokes overlap and the pigment mix. How do you avoid this in the second layer? Do you use much less water?

    • @TimWilmot
      @TimWilmot  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      On the second layer, first ensure that painting is 100% dry. Second layer could be darker and thicker

    Another beautiful painting. Thank you. In another exchange, you had confirmed using real viridian PG18. What brand is it? Also, do you have difficulty getting deep values with viridian? I love the hue, but I am ready to abandon in favor of PG7 Phthalo Green BS that Winsor & Newton call Viridian HUE. Do you have some advice on this? Much appreciated. Thanks Tim!

    A real beauty. this one, Maestro !! ..... do you mix your greens or do you start off with hooker's green ? Any greens like sap or viridian in your palette ?

    • @pandoraefretum
      @pandoraefretum 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok just listened to it = viridian...

    • @TimWilmot
      @TimWilmot  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mix them. Viridian green + burnt umber = nice green for dark treest

    Lovely again. So useful to see your reference photo and how it's been modified. I'd like it to remain on the screen for the entire demo, simply to teach us NOT to try and replicate the greens in photos.

    Would there be a benefit to toning down the white paint highlights? They seem just a bit garish.

      @@TimWilmot I enjoy your videos very much, and may join one of your online sessions. The comment about the white paint was made from a beginner, so take with a grain of salt. Just seems the gouche white is whiter than the watecolor paper.

    As someone who grew up drawing technical drawings such as house plans and the like, my mind finds it so difficult to comprehend how you can create such abstract and imprecise forms and end up with a wonderful painting. I have had to put it on hold but I was studying Architecture and my tutors were huge fans of abstract form/art and I found those subjects particularly difficult to free my mind in such a way. I think water colour painting could really help with this.

      Yes get loose, but your technical drawing background will really help your street scene paintings

    Hi Tim, are you using Jacksons own brand watercolours for this demo? I think you used them a while back. I was just concerned with how frothy they seem to be when you were mixing. I had this problem with some W&N tubes a while back and couldn't get on with them. Great demo by the way.
