    I just got my '09 Escape back from the dealership. They quoted me $400 to do this. I ordered my part on Amazon for $22. Thank you for this video. When my part gets in I will be able to fix it myself and keep $378 in my pocket. Thanks dude!

    I'm glad I am not the only one who uses a head-lamp while working in the shop. Thanks for sharing and nice repair...

    Thanks Austin, that was fun! I like that you had not done that before and you were figuring out as you went. Now I'll go a try to do it in my Escape!

    I worked in plastics for automotive for over 20 years. The pry marks can be fixed with a little bit of heat. Not too much heat. We used heat guns or torches. If it’s not too light you could try a hair dryer. Don’t get really close.

    Just to be ornery, I did my repair while watching the video first time. 😉
    Thanks for the videos.

    Good work. The bane of working on modern cars is the plastic parts and plastic clips. I also keep a small, medium, and large carpenters style flat bar for reaching in and prying.

      I'm with you. Can't understand who decided we needed to hide fasteners. What's wrong with the look of a screw or bolt head?

    Excellent video. I'm doing mine soon as the part arrives. Hope it's this simple! I think I'll need a longer pry-bar. On my 2010 the door latch is down lower on the door. The glass latch is up to the right of the license plate.

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just be patient with the pry-bar and remember that plastic is 10 years old, so it is prone to cracking.

    Can’t wait till my part gets here, I’m so excited, I was thinking about getting rid of the car because I took it to where I bought it and they said they fixed it but they didn’t, took it to ford dealership and they blamed me because there was a small dent on the hatch,didn’t matter to them that it was stuck before the dents but they both got their money for nothing and I got screwed.

    I have replaced latch as instructed and plugged all in its place. Window pops open but new latch doesn't pop open as it should? Where else do I need to trace the issue? Thanks for the video! it helps a lot. detailed thoroughly!

      I think there is a second plug for the sensor that verifies the door is closed. That may be unplugged or loose

    Good Afternoon Austin,
    We have changed my rear hatch as per your video (Thank You).
    We are having a issue where our interior lights stay on, and door ajar stays light up. Is there a reset of something we need to do as well?

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not come across this issue myself, but my guess is that the new latch needs to be adjusted slightly away from the metal loop it latches too. There is a small amount of adjustment available and the latch, you simply loosen the bolts on it and hold it in place slightly farther away and retighten. Whenever I am reinstalling hinges or latches that have any adjustability to them I look for marks on the paint indicating where the last component was installed and start off by matching that. Please let me know if that solves the problem

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try tapping the head of the bolt with a hammer, as that sometimes breaks the bond free, but be aware if you hit too hard you can damage the torx head and make it difficult to get the torx driver back in it. If that doesn't work, you can use an impact driver, but you will want to be careful with it. They sell them at harbor freight or on amazon and you'll need an adapter to put the T27 bit onto it.

      Wow! That's some serious lesson that you're giving today!
      According to you illogical logic.. then eveytime my car battery dies and instead of jumping it I replace it? And if I dented the bumper instead of reversing the dent I replace bumper?
      Let me guess.. next time I get water in my gas tank then you want me to replace the gas tank or go replace the gas station.
      Thanks for inspiring me! Also I like to teach you from what I learned from you.. next time your get a headache don't you go take headache medicine.. immediately replace your head!
