The argument among Malaysians after roti canai was named as the number one bread is which roti canai is better. Is is the roti canai made by Indians or roti canai made by Malay.
Personally I prefer roti canai made by Malay. It tastes differently than the ones made by Indians or mamak. Try it and note the difference.

As a malaysian (my own opinion) this particular restaurant's roti canai looked abit overdone - crispy. At least the first one your husband tried. It should be abit softer and moist. Try it at other stalls as diff stalls roti taste different. Then only you can appreciate the taste.

@@voyagesdiary Malay Roti Canai are usually much softer and more 'buttery' whereas the mamak ones are usually more firm with a bit of heft in them. I personally prefer the malay ones but thats just based on personal preference. Ask the locals around where you could find the best ones Im sure they would gladly and happily help you out with recommendations!

There are two kind of roti canai. 1) Mamak roti canai 2) Malay roti canai. They are slightly different Exspecially the gravy. Mamak restaurant located in the city. Malay restaurant or warung located at outskirt of the city or in rural area.

That make it no 1 roti because of it taste, fluffy inside & crunchy outside.
The one that your husband ate looks a bit tough.
The ingredients are the same, the way to prepare the roti will give it different texture.
I don't know why you all go to wrong ramly burger & roti canai restaurant 😢

You guys should visit Genting Highlands, your kids will love it and spend a day at the outdoor theme park (if budget allows). You'll feel better with cooler weather (thin jacket layer required) and food is still good but a little more costly. If you like birds, KL Bird Park is the largest free flight Aviary in the world located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur City area, weird that nature's located at the center of Kuala Lumpur City. You'll practically be walking with some birds feets away but don't get too close though. (Check weather forecast before going, the rain could spoil your visit there)

the thing is, there are to many roti canai version out that. The one you got probably the shop that make crispy one. Which is good for people prefer crunchy roti canai. But the thing is most people prefer fluffy roti canai. And most roti canai is fluffy. And you really need to eat to your preference type of roti canai to find it to your liking. Most of malaysian cooking is not like western cooking. Western cooking usually prefer the exact recipe. So the taste profile will be almost the same. So when we called it pizza, it should taste like pizza. But in malaysia even pizza has been change to malaysian profile taste to the point it completely changed the "original" taste of pizza. And when most malaysia taste "original" pizza taste most of them doesnt really like it. Because they have taste to much variety of pizza that suit their taste. There is no right or wrong, it is just what the type of people prefer to. Italian people usually prefer original taste of pizza, while malaysia people wanted something more spicy, more strong taste. Almost every food around the world that not malaysian food. Will be change the taste profile to suit malaysian taste.
