I knew the family of a Filipino soldier killed in that city by the rebels. I remember when at their house seeing his picture on the sideboard. My experience is yes your at more risk but that doesnt mean that if your sensible and not to loud you will be hurt. I guess it comes round to if a rebel contact or someone connected sees you. They are not everywhere so you can get lucky like you did.. Saying that you look very Muslim so maybe they assumed the same. I love that partt of the Philippines myself as my wife is from that area so been their a few times.

I was informed about Marawi and its history by a filipino friend. Everyone i spoke to about this place was scared and adviced me to stay away, yet the people i met in Marawi was good hearted and warm as always.

The problem in these poor areas is there is no discipline in the children and they only respect you on the surface when they think there's an opportunity to get money or something for free. Most have children very young too with no hope of ever having a good education or raising their offspring with the proper care and discipline.

The problem in these poor areas is there is no discipline in the children and they only respect you on the surface when they think there's an opportunity to get money or something for free.
Most have children very young too with no hope of ever having a good education or raising their offspring with the proper care and discipline.
