You were so upbeat today Miss Pea. Such a beautiful place. I’m just a country boy so I’m not used to that kind of place. When I lived in Philippines my house was a small 2 bedroom one bath (bucket bath) with small kitchen above a sari sari store. The whole house was mahogany. In the evening I could go down to the sari sari store and have a San Miguel with the Filipinos who would play guitars and sing. I think our total monthly cost to live in that house including our live in maid was about 200 a month. That was a long time ago but probably the best year of my life. You brought back great memories.

I lived like that for about 3 years until I had enough. Plus, I had to defrost the thing too often. Now, I enjoy what we have, much space and no defrosting. I currently live in New York City. I have two houses and two cars. I spend roughly $6000 a month to live.
After having visited the Philippines multiple times, I am convinced that I could live there on less than $3000 a month and be completely satisfied.
This past month of July, I also visited Bali and I’m convinced I could live there on less than $3000 a month as well.
I would say the same thing about Bangkok Thailand.
The main issue is the cost of my housing. I definitely wouldn’t own a car there so that’s already $2000 a month I wouldn’t be spending.
In Philippines, I would live in a condo for about $500 a month with its swimming pools, laundry, service, nearby access to the shopping mall and use public transportation to move about.
This far THE GRASS RESIDENCE in Quezon City has been my favorite.
I definitely don’t see myself investing in any property or building anything.

One cool thing about the Philippines is the range of housing that's available. $1,300 for a luxury condo, or at the more affordable end of things, my wife and I spent about $50,000 to build a 1500 square foot, 2 story house on a lot we already owned in Cavite. That house is completely paid for, so our monthly expense for food, electricity, water. etc. is around $1,000.
At the luxury condo you hear nothing but the wild birds. At our house in Cavite, you can hear the neighbor's chickens. And dogs. And kids. And of course, the daily chismis. Instead of luxury condo restaurant food, there's the fresh bread seller, and the fish seller, and the ice cream guy, and the local open-air market with its piles of chicken feet. There's the coconut guy and the pineapple lady. Luxury is nice, but I like living in a neighborhood.

I live in Vancouver Canada, and I was paying $1,550 CAD ($1,114 USD) per month for a 1 bedroom. After I decided to leave, they increased the price to $2,100/mth for my suite. I'm definitely saving for the next few years and moving to the Philippines :P
