Love it! I'm always curious about "non-flappers", haha. Many people don't realize that flappers weren't exactly approved by general society and it was often not a lifestyle an average woman could afford as far as reputation.
Suggestion for future vids: Anne of Austria, Xishi, Queen Louise of Prussia, Mata Hari, Ava Gardner, and Empress Josephine.

She was at her peak before the flapper time though. It was that Mary Pickford/Theda Bara era.

Well, true, though she did make some pretty well known movies in the 20s and generally had a long career :).

I think Miss Gish was quite beautiful as well! At about 17 years old I fell in love with silent cinema....and Gish. I even wrote her a fan letter! And she very graciously responded! She was in her late eighties by then and I imagine it amused her greatly to receive fan mail from a smitten teenager!

Lillian Gish was very gorgeous and glamorous right up until her old age! I was surprised at how easy the hairstyle was. You look a lot like her, actually.

I think this is my favorite of all of your series. You always nail it. These are so much fun for we, the viewers. I'm always excited to see who you've decided to tackle next. Also? I'm super tickled that you chose Lillian Gish. Broken Blossoms had a huge effect on me when we watched it in film class. I then watched as many of Gish's movies as I could get my hands on.

Great tutorial. I enjoy watching these historical beauty series because I learn a lot of interesting facts about the defenition of beauty durring diferent periods of time. I would love to see Mara Belcheva, Lora Karavelova or Nevena Kokanova.
Mara was a bulgarian poet and a high life lady durring the late 19th and early 20th centure. She translated Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra to bulgarian, which was a great challenge, especially for a women, no matter how respected she was. Her husband was murdered durring an atempt for assassination of Bulgaria's prime minister then. She never married again, but spent time with the poet Pencho Slaveykov, who brought the symbolism in bulgarian literature. She was with him in his final years, and when people asked Pencho why would not he prepoce to her, ne would answer that he does not want to be a burden for her.
Lora was also a member of the highlife durring the early 20th century. Her father was a minister and brother of the poet revolutioner Luben Karavelov. Her mother was a very powerful lady, she forced her into a political marrige, but after gining birth to her second son she runs away in London, where she send some essays to be pupblished in "Misul"(Thought) - a newspaper, that publihed new authors and one's that have already build a name, but it was very critical and with high standarts so if you have your work in there a lot of doors would open. Durring her time there she also finds about the death of Mina Todorova, who was in love with the poet Peyo Yavorov. Lora went to Paris, where Mina had went to study, but got sick, died and was berried(her grav is still there today). Peyo would go to her grave every day and Lora would also visit it, so she could see Yavorov. Yavorov is the most gentle author of the bulgarian litherature, and although not being very hansome, Lora had decided to make him hers, because she was concidered to be one of the biggest beauties in the country back then and qonqoring the heart of the biggest writter at that time would meke her very respected. At first Yavorov wanted to be friends, and she did actualy called him "my dear friend" in her early letters, but eventualy Lora got divored with her husband and they started living together. Then got married. But Lora was a very jellous lady, she wanted Yavorov's eyes to look at her only and one night, after returning form a gathering at a friend's house she accused him into flirting with another women, after that she took his gun and shot herself, he thied to kill himself too but he got blind instead. The next year was a very hard year for him, very few of his friends stayed by his side, a very big part of the society believed that he murdered Lora. And in 1914, a year after his first suicede attempt he tried again, this time succsefuly.
Nevena is Bulgaria's Golden age of cinema star. She, even today is an example of bulgarian women's beauty. Her best known roles are Irina in Tobbaco, based on a book with the same name, showing the last decade before Bulgaria turn into a communist republic and Elisaveta in The Peach Theif, also based on a literature work with the same name. Her movies are one of the most loved and watched. She was even called "the first lady of bulgarian cinema."
    Sorry for the long comment.

I agree - Lillian Gish is a beautiful woman (I used to wish I looked like her, sometimes I still think that :P) but she was also really talented and, more importantly, a really nice and humble lady. She and her sister, Dorothy Gish (who was also talented and beautiful in her own right), were along with their childhood friend Mary Pickford are some of my favourite film actresses. They really did help improve film acting for the people later to come and their acting is pretty much just as good today as it was then. :)

It is fascinating how thin lips were popular back then. Now, it is popular to have massive lip injections and bulbous lips. Give it 10 years, and thin lips will be back in fashion. It just goes to show that you should never follow fashion, just do what you think is beautiful.
