I think Indie developers are keeping alive the old tradition of either NO DLC or free DLC and the Dawn of the equinox is not even the only planned upgrade from this team. A thanks to those guys for sponsoring this episode - check it out here: streaml.ink/anw4-yt-switchupyt - Mark & Glen
@@SwitchUpYt I can't speak for Sabotage, but from where I'm standing, the next thing on the radar is the "Throes of the Watchmaker" content DLC, set to drop sometime in 2025. New scenario, new combat, new characters -- for the low, low price of free.
I bought it almost immediately after learning about the update a few days ago. I played Chrono Trigger with my kids last Christmas season and we loved it. Wasn't sold on Sea of Stars until they added 3 player local co-op. My daughter just killed a boss with a perfect timed 5+ bounce moonerang, it was epic, now she can't sleep because of all the adrenaline!!!!!!! 😂 Yes I'm Garl , ofc
Tales of Symphonia for the NGC was my favorite RPG back of all time, amazing cell shading graphics, voice acting, action strategic combat, such a great package.
Lol I'm playing that now. It's the reason I haven't started my Quebecois replay yet. I normally chose my native English over metropolitan French, but Québécois localizations are the GOAT. Vive le Québec libre!
Love when a dev continues to not just fix bugs but actually enhance their games. So few developers do, most just move on to the next project. (of course no one has done more than Hello Games with No Man's Sky) This makes me want to support them even more with their next game. Will definitely have to download this update and give them game another spin through. Need to get my nephews to play this one. Favorite RPG is Suikoden 2 so I can't wait for the remakes to get released.
This feels like a great time to try this one. My favourite RPG that sticks in my head is Fable, a little unconventional but still remember the first time playing it. Needs a switch port!
My all-time favorite RPG is Paper Mario Thousand Year Door. I’ve also dabbled in Sea of Stars on a friend’s Nintendo Switch. It’s definitely a top-notch game!
Adding co-op to this game is exactly what I was hoping for. I’ve never tried it because it’s hard for me to play solo rpgs since my son always wants to join in; so maybe now we can both try it out! Cheers everyone!
Saving combo points between battles is great, fixing one of my biggest complaints. I often found myself rarely having the opportunity to use the combo skills. Glad the devs added this.
When I found this game on the internet. It was still in development. I fell in love to a beautiful package of nostalgic goodness. Played the demo twice. Never had I done that. I wanted to play day one. But I managed to hang out to buy the physical copy. Even though it took longer to arrive. Man did the developer deliver. One of my all time favorites. Free DLC. You gave them all the credit and they deserve it!
You guys inspired me to get the game originally. It’s been sitting in my ever growing waiting list/backlog for a while now. Not sure the kiddos will be good with the co-op. Regardless I’m looking forward to playing the game and with these new improvements added it’s climbing the list. This may have to be my next play through. Great video guys. Keep em coming
I love it when devs aren't afraid to change their games if they don't match up to what they had planned. The obvious ones being No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077, but even when the game isn't broken or clearly lacking in content, seeing devs care enough to still work on it and add massive amounts of content is very cool. Well done Sabotage!
Wow, I keep seeing this game being mentioned everywhere I look! Never played it personally, but from what I've seen, the devs released a free massive update with a lot of QOL features like what No Man's Sky devs are doing! The co-op reminds me of Trials of Mana / Seiken Densetsu 3 on the SNES. Great job devs! Great review @SwitchUpYt!
My fave is OCTOPATH TRAVELLER II, the 2d/3d scenery is stunningly beautiful. The entwined story of the eight playable characters is awesome. Nothing else touches this in my opinion......see-yahhh!!!
First of all, thanks for always supporting the small developers! Not only my favourite RPG of all time, but my favourite game of all time is Chrono Trigger. You can imagine how I felt about Sea of Stars from that! LOVED IT.
I hope they update the demo with these combat changes as I just can't afford to take a chance on a new game without trying it first, even if SwitchUp love it as much as you do. Even Balatro being nominated for Game of the Year isn't enough for me to invest without playing a demo first sadly, despite my brother (fellow gaming nerd) enjoying it heartily. Cheers SwitchUp! Looking foward to maybe seeing My Sims bundle popping up here someday. 😊
Sea of Stars bought on your recommendation! Fav RPG of all time? Has to be FFVII doesn't it. Clocked it on the PS One all those years ago and loved every second. Keep up the great work, guys.
I’m liking this dev more and more - love seeing the sponsored segment on this channel. Just bought it on sale but I may just push it all the way ahead of everything else in the backlog.
Who should try this one is a great name for a new segment because not everyone is sold by a trailer or even a review Also, I am still waiting for that free game from the last week 😊
This looks great, thanks for the review. Favorite RPG is still Skyrim after all these years. No Man's Sky, Dark Souls, Pillars of Eternity, and FFIV are close seconds.
Great update! Saw Sea of Stars on 30% sale on e-shop. Looks like it’s a great time to pick it up. Have a question, are you aware of any plans to release a physical version which includes the new dlc update?
Been waiting to pull the trigger on the physical copy of this game for reasons that escape me. I have 3 kids, so diving into a RPG is more daunting than ever, but they are my favorite. Gonna have to just do it. And hell, now my 10 year old can play with me! My favorite RPG is Elder Scrolls IV (Oblivion). Nothing has made me feel the sense of freedom and fantasy I got playing that game when it came out. Quirks and all. Love this channel. Cheers!
It's a pretty good game within the wider genre but in my limited experience, I had the most fun with and sank the most hours into Immortals: Fenyx Rising. I really enjoyed its cheeky sense of humor and colorful mythological settings.
Always happy to see more love for *Sea of Stars* I played the game on launch and since I don't have gamers in my circle to play this with again I'll probably revisit the game when the new story DLC releases next year 😎
Haven't delved into Sea of Stars yet but for me Secret of Mana is my all time favourite. The weapon and magic variety was top notch and I remember the real time with pause element being an absolute game changer. The first two Baldur's Gates are also great fun on the Switch, can't recall how many times I've played through those absolute gems. Love the content chaps, keep those saveloys coming! XD
My top RPGs Baldur's gate 1&2, Ice wind dale, Diablo 2, Skyrim, Divinity 2, Pathfinder wrath of the righteous, Pillars of eternity. Old school is the only school 😎
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga was a childhood favorite of mine, and I think it still stands up there with the best. Movement and puzzles are always fun and the battle system is perfection.
I said it before and I'll say it again. This has veen of of the best pixel rpg games I have ever played like Chrono Trigger. The co-op seems interesting, although I found it hard being on a game with this kind of turn based system. I hope more ganes with combat systems like Legend of Mana, Tales, and star ocean come.
All time favourite rpg, that’s tough. So many old classics that come to mind, but then I remember my first time playing Dark Souls and seeing my characters feeble attempt to swing a sword he wasn’t strong enough to wield, and that pretty much settles it. Great content as always guys!
Switch up! Y’all are the best. I found your channel a little over a year ago and have never stopped watching. I appreciate the time you put not making excellent reviews on Switch games and especially Sea Of Stars. This a RPG must.❤ My favorite RPG of all time with the exception cause I haven’t played Chrono Trigger would be. Final Fantasy 7❤️
It's insane to me that this update is free. I'm very glad it's not paid DLC, but lets be real most devs would have made this paid DLC. Made already a fantastic game somehow even better!
Sea of stars is a masterpiece and I never say that about games. I’ve 100 percent the game and still think about it regularly. The gameplay, story and music all combine to make perfection in my eyes!
It’s on the list! I passed on it the first time around, but I think I’m really interested now. The tlc some of the devs put into polishing their games is something I wish other development teams would look at when it comes to their own “almost great” game. I think it would help folks that may be on the fence, like me, decide they want to pick up the game. Thanks Mark and Glen.
I would always drop RPGs as soon as they opened up and made you choose where to go. So it took me a while to finally complete an RPG in the form of Tales of Phantasia. Was gripped by the story and the gameplay. Also DeJap gave it a certain "quiet elegance..."
Sea of Stars just keeps outdoing itself! This update feels like an RPG holiday gift-polished combat, epic co-op, and a game that somehow got even better! Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next patch gives us the ability to recruit the sun and moon as party members. Bravo, devs! 🤘🏼🤙🏼 Oh and my favorite RPG of all time has to be Golden Sun 1 and 2! Oh the nostalgia!
I grew up not playing any rpgs except the first few pokemon generations, but have gotten into them now in my late 20s and am enjoying the strategy and world building of them! Super mario rpg, tactics ogre reborn, omori, disco elysium, and a few others. Havent played this one yet but the pixel art is incredible and ill definitely be playing it in the future! Glad to hear the developers are so invested in making their game as good as possible!
My favorite RPG of all time is Radiata Stories. I also like to call it stalking simulator, because one of the only ways to recruit some of the characters is to follow them around along their daily routines and pester them, so you end up pestering everyone, which fits the tone of the game tbh. It’s very charming but I wish it was longer.
This has been on my wishlist since day one, still waiting for the ultimate barjain! Such a beautiful game. My fave RPG of all time has to be Baldurs Gate. Day one purchase, I was absolutely enthralled
As it happens that i have a switch, Xbox series S and a PS5 i often double dip on games that i really like. Sea of Stars and The Messenger are the only games I have on all 3 platforms. That on itself speaks a lot about the quality and how much fun these games are. I really cannot wait for what's coming next from Sabotage Studio
My favourite RPG of all time is Legend of Dragoon! Not only did it start my love and appreication of RPG's, it forced me to learn how to read and partake into these worlds.
This is fantastic. I loved the demo but decided to add it to my wishlist and wait for a discount. I maybe wrong, but I think this is the first discount they've ever done ...and I was ready to grab it. But now you tell me there's more content and reworked? Colour me pixelated !!! I am one happy chappy today .. do not call me this weekend .. I will be too busy slaying monsters and finding me some treasure! Great review as usual guys. Love ya work !
I haven't personally played many RPGs (not out of choice; I do love RPGs, but I just haven't been able to get my hands on very many), but one I've come to love the most is the HD-2D remake of Live A Live that came out back in 2022. The music (Yoko Shimomura the GOAT), the combat, the environmental design, the spritework, it's all just so good. One thing I really like is that no two chapters are exactly alike; you'll have a pretty unique experience with each one. That, and the main protagonists of the 7 main chapters all come together from across time and space for one epic final chapter that's worth all the marbles. And that true ending, good GOD is that awesome! Definitely one of the most badass game finales I've ever had the privilege of experiencing firsthand. I genuinely cannot recommend this game to JRPG fans enough. Minor spoiler if you haven't played: aside from each character's ultimate weapon, the final chapter has some very useful equipment that you'll need to use some out-of-the-box thinking to get. Second favorite would have to be the Super Mario RPG remake, as that's really the only other RPG I've been able to play thus far. Although I did recently pick up a physical copy of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, so I may or many not have a new favorite RPG soon.
I've played this game the day it came out for 30 days nonstop. Did everything I could. Great game, great rpg. Had previous played The Messenger. Loved it. Will definetly comeback when the dlc of the watchmaker comes out.
Seeing this brings back memories from 30+ years ago. Days when my father and I would play S-NES and Genesis games together. Perhaps I'll pick this up And see if he'll have a crack at it with me. Take us back to much simpler times.
Sea of Stars is one of the greatest RPGs ever made and it's now on a big sale on Nintendo Switch éShop I love old pixel art styled RPGs, but don't actually know will this be a good game for me. Is Sea of Stars really that amazing game as people say? 😮
Yes it’s very good. It gets a tiny bit repetitive but overall that’s a minor nitpick to play such a fun game especially with this new update. Plus free story DLC coming next year.
I picked this up because of your sales video and I've been wanting to play this for ages. And now I find out it's got all these bonuses, awesome!!!!!! I can't wait to get into it (trying to finish off some other games first)
Been holding off on this until this update so I can introduce my wife to JRPGs. My favourite jrpg has to be chrono trigger which I only played for the first time last year!!
Love a lot of RPGs, but my favourite is Earthbound. I first played it in middle school, and the quirky, but deep, story helped me process some issues I was going through at the time. It's a joy that my son loves it, too. Hoping to play Sea of Stars with him. Thanks for this video!
This game is what happens when we allow people who truly care for games and are passionate about games do what they want, without the interference of overly corporate decisions. I'm glad that we have such a great selection of such indie games these days.
Secret of Mana is my favorite hands down! My now-wife and I played it through while we were dating, and it's one of my fondear memories and one of her first videogames! We're planning to play this one together now too thanks to the co-op addition, so I CANT WAIT to pick it up 😊
Haven’t gotten to this game yet but it may now be time for me to pick this up and give it a go! Thanks for the update guys. Me or the people for sure!

One of the games I have in my wishlist. This makes it even more attractive so that I play it with my son. Nintendo should've thought of doing something similar for Mario & Luigi, perhaps for the next. In terms of RPGs, XC trilogy has my heart currently. Actually, I think they share composer with Sea of Stars, one of them.
I still haven't had the chance to sit down and play it, but I absolutely cannot wait. Listening to you guys talk about it makes me want to play even more!
This looks so beautiful and interesting. One to add to my list. One that me and the wife can play together instead of ignoring her 😂 FF7 favourite and love the remakes they should do coop with the next remake.
I might be one of a few that has Wild Arms (PS1) as a favourite JRPG. But hey, I already have Sea of Stars in my collection (happy to give up the chance of winning a copy) and didn't see this DLC coming, great video!
Absolutely love Secret of Mana, now this has a similar co-op mode I’ve got no excuse for not jumping on this game (I hardly had an excuse before the update)
Favourite RPG right now? Octopath Traveller II. I had such a blast playing it & I still go back to it for side quests & just for the combat. What a gem!
That question all time RPG. I truly had to ponder what would be #1. I started gaming as a fighting game player, so when I started to play other genres, Knights of the Old Republic was the big one of the time, so it was my first real deep dive into an RPG which made me go play all the classic ones lol
Final Fantasy IX is my favourite rpg of all time. It was the first game I picked up myself and I played it multiple times a year back on the PS1. You could co-op the battles in that game as well. It's how I got my school friends into the genre back in the day.
Xenogears was is my favorite. The art style really brought that game to life. In a lot of ways sea of stars reminds me of Xenogears in that regard. I will have to pick this one up.
Very cool the devs made the effort to add a load of stuff in for free! Had my eye on this game for a while, I loved Chained Echoes and Crosscode so this is right up my alley
This game looks fantastic and actually reminds me of my favourite RPG of all time: Tales of Eternia, on the PS1. It was such a fantastic experience back in the day and it has actually aged extremely well too.
My favorite RPG of all time is easily Final Fantasy 10. Was 14 years old, when it came out. It drew me to the genre and I still love RPGs, like Sea of Stars, 20 years later!
I love the fact that my switch is becoming my go to rpg option. Especially for all of the HD, 2D gems being dropped. Now if only Nintendo would give us a Golden Sun remake 🙌🏾🙌🏾
My favorite RPG of all time remains Final Fantasy VI. Played it as Final Fantasy III way back on the SNES. I remember coming home from school, turning that game on and just playing until Mom made me stop for dinner. My first ever playthrough, the game glitched on me and dumped 99 Economizers into my inventory so all of my spells on all of my characters cost 1MP. I thought that was awesome until I had to grind for them on my next play!
I played this game on Xbox Game Pass because of your review and this game is so good! The music is amazing. I want to play it now with the update. I never finished the game on Xbox, so now it's time to get it and finish it on the Switch 😁
I'm getting major nostalgia from this game without having played it. It reminds me of playing Chrono Trigger as a 12 year old on my dad's computer. I still remember the frog knight and I love all the creative fantastical animals this game has. Edit: don't pick me for the free game. I just bought it. Looking forward to playing it

I agree. And the game was complete and playable at launch. That isn't something you see these days. And all this upgrades for free is amazing.

I’ve wanted that game remade for longest time. Though it may need a few tweaks to adapt it for modern gamers.

I wish more RPGs implemented local co-op, this looks great. Favorite RPG is Super Mario RPG.
Same
Local co-op would have been exactly what the Mario and Luigi IP needed to further evolve that series. Maybe in their next game after Brothership 😊
Saving combo points between battles is great, fixing one of my biggest complaints. I often found myself rarely having the opportunity to use the combo skills. Glad the devs added this.

@nickwick35 yes the new update looks fun and it's so awesome taht this game's getting a DLC even in next year!
Man, I should really should pick up this game. Seems to have glowing reviews everywhere.
I bought the japanese version thinking it will never get DLC.
Now that it will, I need to get the american version to play the DLC....
I still haven't had the chance to sit down and play it, but I absolutely cannot wait. Listening to you guys talk about it makes me want to play even more!
Took turns playing FF7 with my brother back in the day, put so many hours into that game. Sea of Stars looks awesome.
This looks so beautiful and interesting. One to add to my list.
One that me and the wife can play together instead of ignoring her 😂
FF7 favourite and love the remakes they should do coop with the next remake.
What a gem!
I’m so excited to play through this game with my wife! My
Favorite RPG remains Chrono Trigger and Sea of Stars is an awesome love letter to that game.
this game has been in my wishlist for so long, would love to finally dive into it!
If it’s being compared to secret of Mana and Chrono trigger, say no more. Secret of Mana is my favorite RPG from back in the day. Just take my money!
So good and on sale as well, result! Mark
Got my physical copy and gotta update it right NOW! Thanks for this overview of the update!!
Did they remove the completionist again
That question all time RPG. I truly had to ponder what would be #1. I started gaming as a fighting game player, so when I started to play other genres, Knights of the Old Republic was the big one of the time, so it was my first real deep dive into an RPG which made me go play all the classic ones lol
I started it but didn't continue. Thanks for reviewing this update. It looks REALLY good, especially the changes to the combat.
Same here but will I finish it now due to an update.
Final Fantasy IX is my favourite rpg of all time. It was the first game I picked up myself and I played it multiple times a year back on the PS1.
You could co-op the battles in that game as well. It's how I got my school friends into the genre back in the day.
My favorite RPG, i think might be Sword of Mana on the GBA.
Amazing update! Think I might have to finally pick this one up. Great on the devs for making updates like this for free.
Favourite RPG would be octopath traveler. This update looks so good, thanks for the review!
My favorite RPG of all time is Grandia 2. Mostly cause of nostalgia. It was my first RPG and I played it a lot in my childhood.
Heck yeah, my wife just bought me a physical copy, but its for Christmas :( I didn't even expect these kind of updates
I love the fact that my switch is becoming my go to rpg option. Especially for all of the HD, 2D gems being dropped. Now if only Nintendo would give us a Golden Sun remake 🙌🏾🙌🏾
This game was on the South Africa Eshop for the equivalent of £7 at launch
I’ve had my eye 👁️ on this for a while. I ADORE chained echoes. I hope this also lives up to the indie snes rpg hype like that one did.
This has been on my radar for months, hoping to be able to pick it up by the end of the year. Thanks for the information guys.
I played this game on Xbox Game Pass because of your review and this game is so good! The music is amazing. I want to play it now with the update. I never finished the game on Xbox, so now it's time to get it and finish it on the Switch 😁
A Couch co-op is the best news I could have hoped for
I loved playing this game, now I need to start over, have been wanting to do that for a while, now it’s the time!! 🤩🤩🤩
