A God Doomed to His Fate - Odin from God of War Ragnarok

We are all familiar with overtly evil story villains. You know the type. They burn down houses and throat-punch toddlers. While we know that Odin is the main villain in God of War Ragnarok, we never see him directly do any of these traditionally evil things. How then, is he the villain?
Unlike traditional villains, Odin is a self-validating manipulator, convincing himself that every action he takes is for the greater good, all the while convincing those around him to do his dirty work. What is truly spectacular about Odin's character is that he never sees, never stops to think of the ways in which his actions are affecting those around him.
