This was lovely to see, I remember the Woolwich in the video like it was yesterday - filled with nostalgia

Woolwich was the best town in London in 50s-80s. We had everything - thriving shops, good schools and safe streets, woodlands and open spaces. good transport ,4 swimming pools, employment for all etc. Shame.

Brilliant! Weird to see a time when traffic was allowed through the market. Been pedestrianised since around 1984 I think

It totally blew my mind. For someone who lived in Woolwich from 2011 to 2017. I thought the market was always meant for pedestrians.

As a schoolboy, I used to train and box in the Woolwich arsenal in the1950s. To Beresford market for my shellfish, and over to Menzies for my pie, mash, and liquor. Took No 53 bus from Charlton Village to Bloomfield school. Saw the last of the trams, and Vera Lynn at the ' flea pit '.Those were the good old days! Like Lewisham, it was a great place.

Woolwich has gone down hill a lot since this video was made. The market is far less busy and despite new developments the town centre is a dump. Gone are Marks and Spencers, Burtons and Woolworths. I first went to Woolwich in 1987 and it was a much livelier town then with great night life and nightclubs. Now it is like a ghost town. The specials song "Ghost town" would be a fitting song about Woolwich of today.

It blows my mind there used to be a road going through Powis Street, but to be fair now I know why it’s called a street lol

Woolwich hightstreet looks a lot different now. It's more modern. Druggies everywhere laying in the main square, gangs of migrants, and a depressing atmosphere. Nothing like when I was growing up here. Everyone was friendly and now it's a sh*thole.

A little bit of an overstatement and lots of hyperbole. But nearly there.

Really nice to see the old cars and the old road layout.
I just missed these time as only started working in the Woolwich area in 1985.
