1985 I got a job as a press fleet driver for BMW at Bracknell. For 2 years I had a different new BMW every few weeks, and drive them all over the uk for photshoots. Watching this time capsule brings those days back perfectly. The mid to late eighties were such fun times! From Live Aid to 1990!
As a local, is interesting to see the row of Victorian terraced houses on the corner of EC road and Cromwell road. Obviously now gone and replaced with a modern apartments building.
Why is it that in Britain and to a larger extent in a lot of European countries not keep older cars like they do over here in America? (not Germany of course they're practically married to their cars)

Fords greats era I think with cars vans & lorries here as well Bedford cf vans were good too. A lot of volvos & estates back then White astra gte bring back the 80s.
Really appreciate this footage, especially as bus driver who often goes along that route. Traffic in 2023 hasn’t changed that much, still as crazy as ever.
Great times and great cars back then, now days its all these boring cars with same colours most of them, and too many bmws and mercs but they aren't the ones from those days its all new garbage of todays low qulity and high price tags, also roads have changed alot, more pay parking, more cameras and speed cameras, more traffic, and yellow lines, one ways roads, and wide bike lanes everywhere, and inpatient drivers who just want to over take you here and there, also driving is boring in todays day compare to back then because you had more freedom and better cars to enjoy in.
Cars were OK back then - I worked at a car dealers at the time - but they weren't that good . Cars today are a lot more bland to drive but also much safer , reliable , economical and comfortable . Favourite car I've ever owned was an 80s 205 Gti , weighed nothing and very fast but went very rusty .
@@andynixon2820 yeh but I don't think saftey of new cars and those ugly new deshins that are coming up these days can take over order cars, but If I want a safe and relible car I bound get 2001 02 lexus is200 which is pretty safe, also these days people relying on technology more then their own brains to be honest, so many drivers these days don't even look were they going they drive like idots and own a expensive new car they don't deserve to even ride a hourse let alone car, I've seen people realy on sensors and all the crap, that they forget to turn on their headlights when it's dark they'll wait for a sensor to detect the dark and will turn on rather turn a single switch to make them on and you safe as well.
They ruined our London with all this gentrification BS London has become ugly place and I for one was glad we moved away from Central London back then. I will always remember London as per this video.
Interesting big old Japanese barge at1:50. Not sure what it is exactly, but it's no doubt very very rare these days. And a top of the range Rover SD1 Vitesse (with headlamp wipers!) just behind it
The cars!!! The Sierras. The XR3i. The Metro. The Cortina. The old two-door London buses. 😭😭😭 I promise, if you make me Prime Minister, no vehicles newer than early '90s vehicles except the good sports cars will be allowed.
My goodness. Audi & BMW just didn’t feature. It’s Renault 5 Ford fiesta or escort or Mondeos, with Mercs and various Vauxhalls and Volvos with a smattering of the old Rovers and old defunct Leyland
Yea that was the good old days, believe it or not,but in fact they were better than today, now three quarters of the population have been scared into living a painfully boring miserable existence, thanks labour thanks conservatives,you really have destroyed what was once a great city
The UK and Europe needed to have cars that could go around corners, and didn't need parking lots the size of Belgium to park them. And fuel consumption better than 10 mpg was, strangely, favoured as well for some reason

Poorly designed streets and intersections too , thus making things more unpleasant for drivers and pedestrians both .
These streets were built 200 or 300 years before cars were invented you moppet😂
I think that both sides of the Atlantic had great cars during the the '80s and largely in the '90s
