    I wish we had this technology and information while watching tournaments

    • @perthpongtt
      @perthpongtt ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be cool, similar to how they now have it with football

      They use it in cricket and its immensely helpful.
      So many times a fault gets called if the ball toss is not high enough or the ball rotates more than 30degrees in the air, and theres no way of knowing whose right until we have this technology

    I loved the analysis! It's really eye opening to see just how extreme this sport can get, especially with hard data like this.

    Thanksss for this I have been analysing & trying to replicate xu xin from that slow-mo's for a while aswell. Thanks again for this video helped me a lot.

    0:40 that is easy to acknowledge: just look at the white spots that balls leave on your black rubber

      Oh yeah, that is also a good clue!
      To be fair though I think that theory came about in the celluloid ball era, when the balls didn't leave such marks.

    and the thing which annoys me the most is ITTF being so persistent on the stupid side view camera angle
    they are killing the enjoyment of watching the games

      yes this side-top view is annoying. no depth or spin perception possible. Corner placement slightly elevated in my oppinion is the best

    You missed an important point here. When you are swinging the racquet, different parts of the racquet have different speeds. For example, the top portions of the racquet has more speed when compared to bottom portions of the racquet. Hence the amount of spin generated when the ball hits the top portion of the racquet is more when compared to the ball hitting the bottom portion of the racquet.

    • @drupepong
      @drupepong  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I agree the speed would increase for points that are further away from the wrist/base of the racket. But in the video I was talking about points that are at the same radial distance.

    you forget about the sweetspot, it's not the same to hit the ball at the corner or middle, the impact is different and therefor the result, that's why good players will hit the ball mostly in the sweetspot area... there are certain carbon blades like the SZLC series which are so hard to widen the sweetspot area but even there it's not the same outer vs inner point...
    also, even if you hit it in the middle part as you showed it's not the same if you hit it left, right or middle as the mass of the racket plays a role when you loop = when you loop and in the looping motion you hit the ball with the beginning of the racket then the rest of the racket still has to follow, and it doesn't matter if the touch is just minimal, the mass of the racket still is at a different point and will affect the ball...

    xu xin has a tacky rubber thats whh he has more contact time than normal players with tensor rubbers

    • @edwardgarner1299
      @edwardgarner1299 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so. Tacky rubber just imparts greater spin to the ball.

    And still people will swear by following trough shots and closing the racket angle when topspinning.

    • @drupepong
      @drupepong  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that also has its usecases.
      Over here Xu Xin was playing a ball from a robot which I think had some backspin in it

    one thing to consider is Xu Xin's height. He's 6ft tall. If your height is less then Xu Xin probably has slightly longer arms.

    • @drupepong
      @drupepong  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I checked, he is 1cm taller than me. I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make in arm length though
