Walker Krause I’m a lil new here what’s the end goal for all this? Do you guys like fight each other or something at some point or do u just train at home ?
I can imagine how this technique would be an antagonist ability because of how dirty it is. Due to its danger, the correct technique to fight it would be to use the Force since, if I remember correctly, a big weakness in Juyo is its vulnerability to Force powers. I suppose it's a fair assumption to say Juyo's counter forms would be Makashi, Soresu, and Niman.
My sister has unknowingly used some Juyo techniques, such as sword feigns and emotion channeling in her 'swordfights' with me. She's gonna become the most powerful she can become after watching this
Ray force users hardly win fights without incorporating tactics used here. Obi-Wan repeatedly kicked Savage Opress in order to knock him off balance and Maul used his hilt to knock Qui-Gon off balance for an opening to kill him.
I can see why Palpatine favored this. For a lot of sith, it was the emotion behind it (like for Maul), but for him it was also about the trickery that this form offered, especially the blade misdirections. All of the other forms leave at least a small chance of survival for your opponent, but this one is meant to almost always be deadly. It’s unlike Dooku who primarily used Form II out of a sense of dueling honor, Maul who was known to use Form VI compatibly with his double saber, and Vader who used a modified form of Form V to accommodate his crippled form. Even with the weakness of leaving yourself open, pretty much the only ones who could stand a chance would be other masters of Form VII (like Windu) and/or a master of Force powers to put distance between the duelists. The worst part is this form can pop up unexpectedly in other forms like when Maul hit Qui-Gon with his saber hilt after creating a false opening.
I have to say, this must be the coolest form out of them all. Forget the dirty tricks for a bit, the way it uses sword and body misdirections are just badass, especially the turning off and on trick.
There's a reason why it's often referred to as the "Sith" lightsaber form. Being a favourite of Palpatine whenever he is forced to use a lightsaber. The intent is to strike / kill your opponent rather than disarm, it increases your exposure but with sufficient speed / agility it is sufficient to evade a strike rather than parry one.
Wow, never picked up on it before but when Anakin literally disarmed Dooku in Ep. III, it was a Juyo move he did when he went grabbed Dookus hands immobilizing his saber "catching" it, then raised his own severing both of Dooku's hands!
Pragmatism in it's most pure. When fighting for one's purpose one must be willing to shed themselves of the concepts of honor. Honor cannot guarantee victory. Only victory does.
1:35 back when I took japanese sword fighting this was my favorite technique, block an overhead strike at an angle so that the momentum sends them slightly off balance and sliding down the lenght of your blade, take a tiny little step in and move the blade over your head and you have a full force downward opening on an off-balance opponent with their neck exposed

These videos are so cool to watch and the difference between the forms becomes clearer. I have to point out though that you forgot a key element to Form VII specifically Juyo; aggression! This is one of the main reasons why it's practiced and utilized by the Sith/Dark Side users.
@@mandabenbordewijk8318 Maul trained every single form of lightsaber combat. He just used juyo and jar' kai because juyo is amazing and jar' kai is the double bladed lightsaber form.
Anakin was actually denied training in Form 7 because it was worried that he wouldn't be able to control the emotions he tapped into(also it was Vapaad specifically he wanted to learn, different variation than what is shown here, Juyo, with Juyo known to be even more intense and chaotic, with zilch for defense, unlike Vapaad) Anakin was largely a Form V user, which was in some ways similar but more counterstrike based.
I know that Cal would turn his saber off when maneuvering around an opponent with his double-blade lightsaber or during a finishing move, but other than that, I can’t recall him ever using false openings or dirty tricks in lightsaber duels. If you can point out an example, that would be helpful
@@josebeteta8283 He did it in his 3rd fight against trilla in the vault on bogano. Then he disarmed her and took her lightsaber, was dazzled for a moment because his force psychometry resonated with trilla's lightsaber hilt. Trilla used this time to grab the holocron and made her escape. Anyhoo cal does use quite a few rather "dark" techniques. That's not because he taps into the dark side. It's because he essentially teaches all lightsaber skills beyond padawan form 1 to himself and improvises. That's why he heavily uses stuff like kicks, lightsaber throws, force speed, force pull and more technical but still unorthodox moves like transitioning from 1 blade to dual blade to 2 separate blades mid attack and of course the famous force slow which seems to be force power many just never thought about using. Not to be switched up with kylo Ren's force halt. He most likely just doesn't know that jedi frown at this way of fighting which primary goal is winning at seemingly all costs. Perhaps one of the greatest styles learned only by the greatest of Force wielders. Impressive. In many ways, some have described it as a surrender to the Force, to strike at an opponent with such speed and angles of attack that they have difficulty countering it. Your number of attacks will increase, and you will notice many of them will slip beneath your opponent’s guard, critically wounding them, but surrendering yourself to the force in such a way, reduces your ability to resist its effects, should your enemy turn the Force against you. Be on your guard.
Many of the martial arts techniques attributed to Juyo could also apply to the unarmed combat aspect of Ataru, training to use one’s entire body as a weapon. Darth Maul also employed a martial art called Teräs Käsi, based on the movements of beasts.
Basically Juyo and Vapaad combines the same tactics you implore in Muay Thai Combined with Wrestling and Judo. Add a weapon into the mix (can be done with knives as well in hand to hand combat. Exposure points feigning misdirection and utilizations of not just the blade but the hilt your own elbows as a weapon and takedowns. Juyo and Vapaad are in essence barbaric and ferocious forms. Love the tutorial
Form VII, or Juyo, requires the mastery over several different lightsabre forms. I.e. you can blend in different elements into Juyo, and it's still Juyo
3:17 I can see how this could catch a Jedi off-guard, but once he’s been knocked down all he had to do was swing his lightsaber over his back in order to block the strike

What I like about Juyo is that every user adds something else to make their version different, they even say “you should know a few other forms before learning Juyo”

I picked these two because Soresu’s defense form can be easily connected with Juyo’s shave, and when on offensive, the enemy would be worn out, allowing you to easily knock swipe off their saber and attack them
0:58 is a move called Trakata which is banned by the Sith and the Jedi, I also didn't know it was a Juyo technique. I always thought it to be from Vaapad.
Feel like if you were a survivalist of Order 66 and had already been a "master" of Niman for 10-12 years you'd definitely want to adapt this style for the rugged and ruthless Empire age 👍
Well I guess these techniques could be countered by those who use brute force to crush the opponent like general grievous because they leave an opening while making a move
Very sneaky. This is possibly one of the reasons why the jedi lost to the Sith. They was not trained to fight them because they were gone for a long time. Am I right?
Jedi were trained to fight, its just that the ideology is to use fighting as a last result Also form 7 was a forbidden form only practiced by either the sith or those given permission by the jedi high council like mace windu. As form 7 used raw emotions in fighting which the jedi considered "bad" or as a "stepping stone into the dark side". Your statement can also be considered true as many jedi decided to take up passive forms instead of saber combat forms like form 2. Notable example of a form 2 user was count dooku, he was a jedi who decided to pick this form for fear of their return
I like this take on Juyo. It seems vaguely described in sources, requiring the use of the force and its internal emotional components to separate it from the or their forms, but your take seems focused on it being a style that relies on killing intent and enjoying the battle which the Jedi try to remove from all the other forms. All the lightsaber forms seem very honest, so having a non-Jedi style focused on creativity, feints, and switching from heavier strikes to sudden bursts of speedy bladework would work for Juyo.
Well that is Maul's main form. He was trained in all 7 forms by Sidious but he mastered 4 besides Juyo. It was Ataru, Niman, Jar'Kai and Teras Kasi which the last is unarmed combat. The rest of them he knows at advanced adept level.
When you build up your speed and technique it can win you some points in competitions My favorite battle technique in lightsaber duels that I implemented is the rapier style of the musketeer and the overwhelming attack of a samurai with the defense of kendo form 10
Imagine facing someone who strikes at you directly but the moment you put your saber to block they turn there’s off and go right through your defenses to then turn there saber on whilest slashing you... this is my type of shit
This form is like a combination between masterful form 1,form 2 and form 4,it has the extreme unpredictability of form 1 when taken to its greatest potential, it has the greater than average precision of form 2 and it has the flamboyant, aggressive and acrobatic power of form 4,but it does however leave you open to counterattacks, form 7 is about control, not the loss of it,without the control of its immense power, the user will be nothing more than a rabid beast, form 5 DJem so and form 3 Soresu I would say are the best when going up against a form 7 user, but even then,it's not a guaranteed victory as we have seen many times that Obi Wan,the reigning form 3 master has lost a decent few duels with Darth Maul
I know that Trakata, aka the style where you turn off the blade, was forbidden amongst Jedi, I know the Sith frowned on it too because it took advantage of a cheap move, but I don't know if they forbid it or not.
Juyo would definitely be my style as someone that favors more dark side attributes. Jedi have too many morals, which holds them back tremendously and leads to their down fall. Juyo gets things done and doesn’t care for fighting fair.
There are two straightforward ways to respond to someone using feints which is really all this is. First, the defender in these videos is over committing with hard blocks to attacks that don't have body weight behind them (That is why you watch your opponent's core not just the movement of their weapon). If the attacker fails to follow through with their attack you riposte with a short, fast attack which will travel faster and a shorter distance than the elaborate flourishes in some of these attacks. The second way to defend is for every defense to be an attack. Intercept the attack with a strike of your own so if they withdraw their attack your strike will continue unimpeded to strike them. Even if they step back or to the side they have yielded control of the space and you can press the attack.
this is a different philosophy - djem so is meant to focus on braking the opponent with brutal strength, this focuses on tricks . That wouldnt be a pure form :)
@@AkademiaSaberArts Actually, Juyo was developed when a Jedi combined forms 4 and 5 and added in some rage. There should be a bit more jumping and such, but otherwise, great demo!

The lightsaber on/off trick is actually frowned upon by both the jedi and the sith
@renetto the Jedi thought it was unsportsmanlike and the sith thought it was for pussies
If I ever find a way to visit the city you guys are based in, I’d love to learn from you guys!
0:58 is a move called Trakata which is banned by the Sith and the Jedi, I also didn't know it was a Juyo technique. I always thought it to be from Vaapad.
Now this right here is art
When you're like, "This isn't lightsaber combat; it's German and Italian longsword."
Feel like if you were a survivalist of Order 66 and had already been a "master" of Niman for 10-12 years you'd definitely want to adapt this style for the rugged and ruthless Empire age 👍
3:10 At this point, i wish Lightsabers have Pommel to End Them Rightly
They do
Well I guess these techniques could be countered by those who use brute force to crush the opponent like general grievous because they leave an opening while making a move
Very sneaky. This is possibly one of the reasons why the jedi lost to the Sith. They was not trained to fight them because they were gone for a long time. Am I right?
Jedi were trained to fight, its just that the ideology is to use fighting as a last result
Also form 7 was a forbidden form only practiced by either the sith or those given permission by the jedi high council like mace windu.
So apparently the way I've been fighting this whole time has a name, neat
I like this take on Juyo. It seems vaguely described in sources, requiring the use of the force and its internal emotional components to separate it from the or their forms, but your take seems focused on it being a style that relies on killing intent and enjoying the battle which the Jedi try to remove from all the other forms. All the lightsaber forms seem very honest, so having a non-Jedi style focused on creativity, feints, and switching from heavier strikes to sudden bursts of speedy bladework would work for Juyo.
Can u make a full on duel using juyo
Theres a channel called force clash that shows duels of lightsaber forms
I, am the idle stance or whatever you call it for form VI, and the attacks of form VII: Juyo variant.
Well that is Maul's main form. He was trained in all 7 forms by Sidious but he mastered 4 besides Juyo. It was Ataru, Niman, Jar'Kai and Teras Kasi which the last is unarmed combat. The rest of them he knows at advanced adept level.
I have a metal rod that looks like a lightsaber and i train on it
that's how we all started!
When you build up your speed and technique it can win you some points in competitions
My favorite battle technique in lightsaber duels that I implemented is the rapier style of the musketeer and the overwhelming attack of a samurai with the defense of kendo form 10
Imagine facing someone who strikes at you directly but the moment you put your saber to block they turn there’s off and go right through your defenses to then turn there saber on whilest slashing you... this is my type of shit
This is just “be a cheeky asshole” the style and I’m all here for it.
In HEMA, these "dirty tricks" are pretty standard as winning the fight is ultimately paramount. Take every advantage you can.
This form is like a combination between masterful form 1,form 2 and form 4,it has the extreme unpredictability of form 1 when taken to its greatest potential, it has the greater than average precision of form 2 and it has the flamboyant, aggressive and acrobatic power of form 4,but it does however leave you open to counterattacks, form 7 is about control, not the loss of it,without the control of its immense power, the user will be nothing more than a rabid beast, form 5 DJem so and form 3 Soresu I would say are the best when going up against a form 7 user, but even then,it's not a guaranteed victory as we have seen many times that Obi Wan,the reigning form 3 master has lost a decent few duels with Darth Maul
this form is my favourite.
I know that Trakata, aka the style where you turn off the blade, was forbidden amongst Jedi, I know the Sith frowned on it too because it took advantage of a cheap move, but I don't know if they forbid it or not.
Full speed spar using the various styles you show. Then slow it down in your editor for us so we can follow how it looks for real.
Juyo would definitely be my style as someone that favors more dark side attributes. Jedi have too many morals, which holds them back tremendously and leads to their down fall. Juyo gets things done and doesn’t care for fighting fair.
Mace windu used a version of form 7 though
Apparently these guys have not read up on nick Gillards notes. Both attacks with sword and hands and feet were implied with Juyo.
I even bought the cloak
Thank you, masters now I have dominated a new combat style
Anakin and Dooku moment starts at 2:45 (topped off with a smile too)
"Fear leads to hate, hate leads to anger, anger leads to suffering.."
I wonder what it would look like if you combined Form 2 and 7 together
Then you could go agressieve offensive, but also precise. If your opponent uses form 3 you van switch from Juyo to Makashi
At we will reveal ourselves to the jedi at last we will have revenge
Could you also incorporate this into Djem So style? Just wondering😅
this is a different philosophy - djem so is meant to focus on braking the opponent with brutal strength, this focuses on tricks . That wouldnt be a pure form :)
@@AkademiaSaberArts Actually, Juyo was developed when a Jedi combined forms 4 and 5 and added in some rage. There should be a bit more jumping and such, but otherwise, great demo!
@@samgreen8007 djem IS form 5
Grandmaster Yoda It’s only a variant of form V of which there are two. One is Shien, the other is Djem So.
Many of these "tricks" are practiced in HEMA longsword fencing.
What sabers are you using. That is a seriously bright red blade
