    I love how Laura's sewing machine is like the most industrial looking version of a sewing machine. 😂

    • @MattWeber
      @MattWeber ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Close, its heavy enough to sew most things but a true industrial machine your looking more toward those that sew rubber/HEAVY leather shoe soles and livestock equipment. Hers is up there for things it can do, but it mainly struggled due to actually being such overkill for such light material. Its more suited for sail canvas> medium weight leathers than paperthin fabrics like this.

    Tyvek makes a great ground cloth for backpacking tents, also a small square makes a nice pocket size clean place to sit when taking breaks on the trail. It’s gets softer and quieter with handling but still remains waterproof.

      Waterproof but still breathable. That is why it is used a lot in building wood constructions (like the tiny house). But one thing that tyvek is not, is UV proof. It will hold quite some time but the type that I found states "4 month UV stable"

    To glue Tyvek, you can use a strong adhesive like polyurethane-based glue or a specialized Tyvek adhesive. Apply the glue to the surfaces you want to join, then press them together firmly. • @TheVoidSinger
    @TheVoidSinger ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For heat bonding, a craft iron or hair straightener is easier to work with than soldering irons or vacuum bag sealers (wider area / more heat control). For sewing, a longish back stitch or ladder stitch is probably better than the zig zag since you don't need the stretch, and you loose a bit of structure if the stitching is too close so avoid serge/over stitch. For gluing I'd go with something like contact cement or another water based glue that doesn't fully harden, although I've been meaning to experiment with something like acrylic 'glue' (but it'd probably just melt through)

    Sometimes when you see an opportunity, you just have to jump and trust that your experience (and maybe a little help from your friends) will help you to land softly in a better place.
    Best of luck, and I can't wait to see what great things you're going to be making on this new adventure!
