Fall is my favorite season for photography. The world turns into a very colorful portrait as the leaves begin to change and fall off the trees before Winter hits. I had a whole week of vacation to use from work scheduled in October to grab as many Autumn Themed photos as possible, however, there are certain places in the US where the leaves change quicker, or more vibrantly than they do here in Northern Indiana. Central Pennsylvania is one of those places. The last time I had touched Pennsylvania was the Summer of 2015 when I took a Weeks' Worth Vacation to the state with my family that year in July. With careful speculation and monitoring of weather forecasts, I knew the Alleghenies would be popping with color the week I took my vacation, so I decided to give the Keystone State a visit after 8 years.
With the help of some local railfan friends from the area (and Facebook), I had made plans to stop at several locations both on the east and the west side of the state. The first of those stops as along North Shore's Nittany and Bald Eagle Railroad. NBER4, the job to the NS connection in Tyrone, PA and return, is always a very predictable job and pretty easy to chase as the highway follows it all the way from home base in Bellefonte, PA to Tyrone. They go OD pretty early, but thankfully the day I decided to chase they did not leave until after the sun had risen. Sure enough, the trees on the mountains were popping with color, and I came away with some great shots, both photography and videography wise. The power used on this day's train was a NBER GP8 in NBER Corporate Paint and 2 GP38s in the DLW inspired North Shore Paint Scheme. From what I had been told, getting NBER Painted Units running on this job is pretty rare, which made this chase even more exciting. I definitely will be coming back here soon!
