    What a classic moment in Australian commentary, or should I say comedy! Thanks for the upload of where it all began. The commentators who visit the ground still mention this moment and call it ‘Wollongong Ocean’ to this day, even though the correct term is actually ‘Tasman Sea’.

      I agree that was the best commentary team. They all actually balanced nicely. Rabs has said he used to take himself a bit too seriously until he started working with Fatty and Sterlo. Sterlo was an outstanding analyst, fatty provided a bit of comic relief, Blocker was good at the sideline role, and of course Rabs became the voice of rugby league.

    I was a young lad in rural NZ when all of a sudden you be of our 3 tv channels starting playing the NRL. It’s n the golden era as we are watching here. I’m would get home from school (1.5hrs on two school buses up into the wops) and there it would be. Fell in love with it. My old man had shorn sheep around
    Illawarrah and has been through North Sydney. So I followed both teams. Bought the North Sydney jumper etc. Both were good hard teams with some skills as well who went well.

    Both the 2nd rower AND the winger knocked on LOL !!! Dunn actually clutched at his head giving away that he knocked on.
    For added extras , Matterson goes to the bin as a result of the stuff up .
    And then for the bonus points ,when i actually slowed down the footage of the Wishart kick , the ball is CLEARLY obscured by the posts for a moment as it misses .
    And if Fatty had his way , there would have a boatload of Referees and touchies "floundering " in the "Wollongong Ocean" later that evening !!! 🐳

    • @tasteofsteel

      In this instance I think the ref was obscured. Though the goal, how all three missed it from two angles is a shock - then again if you’re the ref and you see two flags up, you probably assume you’re the one needing to go get an eye test 😂

    • @tasteofsteel
      @tasteofsteel  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ha. In my opinion, Greg McCallum always seemed to referee the Broncos and was the number one ref during the early to mid 90s - overall I think they have little to complain about. He even said once in an interview that the Broncos suited his style - if I find it, I’ll share.

  • @azzatee318

    Remember- this is why there’s a bunker. When there are f up, and fans blow up, there are knee-jerk reactions to keep the fans happy on the opposing teams. Then we complain later on…. No more complaining!

    there was always something odd about the goal kicking at that end .. can recall Laurie Daley converting a try one night and it being waved away - ref (who watched it go through) couldnt overrule the touchies because their decision is final. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Classic Fatty. It's typically described as The Tasman Sea and just in case Fatty didn't realise when he called it the Ayers Rock Plate when referring to third grade footy in Alice Springs, its quite a long way from Uluru to Alice Springs - they are not one and the same. We love ya Fat Man. Where have all the characters gone!

    • @tasteofsteel
      @tasteofsteel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. This game was the final round and had no impact on finals standings. Brisbane would get the next week off and Steelers were playing St George regardless of the result. Both teams rotated players and tested their playing depth… and seems the officials did too! 😂
