"I work customer service for a National media company. Almost everyone in America has our services. I handle mostly residential moves. This year customers are moving in and out of Florida and Texas at an alarming rate. Those moving OUT are polite, and patient, pleasant, and quite open about why they are fleeing the states. The people moving IN are rude, entitled, very unpleasant, and quite open about their racism and bigotry to a total stranger on the phone. Now I am noticing other Red states have also recently started to follow the same pattern. The nation is dividing geographically as well as philosophically."

That makes me sad to hear! I live in Texas and have been hoping to help turn the state blue for a while now. Our metro areas like Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and the Valley are already mostly democratic. The rural areas (and granted, there are a lot of them) are full of the angry, hateful Fox viewers.

The United States is undergoing the exact same deindustrialization/dedevelopment that happened to the Eastern Block after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, when the Oligarchy rose to power and took over everything. With this increase in billionaires around the world, comes an increase in poverty, an increase in austerity, and as a result the destruction of community and everyone only looking out for themselves for survival.

Door #1 --- I could go around Not Trusting Anyone... and always be living in Vigilance looking for someone who was going to harm me... Stressful way to live...
Door #2 --- I could Trust people until they gave me a reason not to trust Them. But once my Trust is Lost... I don't give it back to That person... or at least not easily...
I thought that Door #1 was tiring, stressful, sucked joy from life, and kept me from getting to know a lot of fine people... So I chose Door #2...
Seems like a lot of people want us to choose Door #1... I suppose you can sell a lot of guns to people that way... Don't you think...

There are multiple threads between those stories. Most obviously you have people who are frightened, who are armed and who all decided to ask questions later. Fear, access to a deadly weapon, and poor decision making in times of stress… and/or perhaps the lack of concern of any repercussions, all significantly contributed to every one of these tragedies.

We have failed as a Nation to address the evils and tragedies of our past, in the United States. The United States has always failed to put the value of a human life as the most important factor for our society. We have claimed to be a Christian Nation all while living wickedly as if we had no knowledge of Jesus Christ. The love of money, has been our god and people have just been pieces on the field of play. We chose to ignore our own history of failure and thus many care only for themselves and no one else. We don’t want to talk about slavery because it makes us look bad and we don’t want to talk about civil rights because makes us look bad. So, most of our children don’t know the truth and have no desire to learn anything other than what they have chosen to believe; a lie. In the end, the only life that matters is one’s own life and no other. That’s on us.

Unfortunately, America was born out of distrust. While we've been moving to a better place, the fabric of our society has been unravel for decades. Decades! Fox, Newt, Republicans, have been the impetus for this fear.
This is nothing new to citizens of developed and industrialized nations. Europeans, Canadians don't live with this kind of fear around every corner attitude. Can't speak much for Japan, Australia, or NZ, but none of people I have come into contact with from those countries seem to be weary of their fellow countrywomen/men, nor their government. It's not like these societies are not conservative, as is the case with Japan, or not capitalist. There is something really different going on here in the US. This is what American exceptionalism is starting to look like around the world.

Why do you suppose this has occurred? Nuclear families imploded once people, primarily women, recognized that remaining in unhealthy abusive homes while pretending life was perfect was no longer sustainable. Old society norms, many still exist, painted women in a negative light for leaving their circumstance because it no longer fit the American fantasy of a nuclear family. Many women also realized there are options to creating a family while obtaining a career that contributes to society.
“Authority” has displayed a lack of integrity that does not always warrant respect. Work ethic has fortunately changed in that people have begun to recognize their work and their ethic is primarily meant to serve them and their family. Not the low paying capitalists who have shown indifference to their work forces by refusing to pay a living wage, blocking unions, and mass layoffs via Zoom.
Education is being targeted by people who want to rewrite history, ban books and limit educational exposure to anything that does not fit their agenda.
Church has become politicized with many so called “Christians” bastardizing the Bible to use as a weapon of hate.
You are right, things have changed and fortunately so. However, the change you find discouraging is the reaction to establishments that have not served society well.
