    Sometimes I mention people having "sloppy inputs" and people ask what I mean. Instead of mashing out your inputs, try buffering them like this.

    Compared to Xrd and +R, Strive helped me A LOT in learning to press buttons with intention (and UNI as well to a lesser extent). Delayed gatlings are too big of a deal for me to justify mashing out my blockstring the way I was used to in Xrd (same for 2K 2D out of pressure instead of 2PPPP).

    I dont usually have this issue in neutral but I absolutely mash out in combos. For the most part its fine, I often get the moves I'm looking for, but sometimes the input doesn't work like I want it to, like my opponent recovering and blocking sooner than I'd like, and in a lot of cases it tends to make my time learning combos very long. I did not, however, consider the option selects with buffering the first and second inputs while holding block to protect against whiffs. This whole time I've been trying to do that on reaction lol

I do try to keep my inputs clean, but on certain combos like ch 2d 2k or ch 5h 214s 2ķ, I feel like mashing your inputs is a lot more consistent than just clean inputs. Plus, there are a lot of times when I'm going for things like 5k 6k, and even if I whiff my 6k won't come out. My guess would be to:
      1. Learn the beat to the attacks you want to do, by only pressing once per attack and hitting opponent.
      2. Check that only one attack comes out when you whiff.
      3. Jump back and forth
      4. Set the situation he showed last: have the opponent set to randomly gold burst on hit, if your beat is right you'll get both moves if no burst, but be able to block if burst. (if you're moves are to slow you can always set it to some slower attack)

      Not LK, obviously, but I think you just have to practice it in training and really focus on it in matches until you break the habit. Much like any bad habit in FGs. Just practice your pokes but try and do like 10 in a row without mashing, if you mash once, start over at 1 and try to get to 10 again. Then go into matches and really try to focus on not mashing, don't worry about winning, just worry about not mashing.

    • @user-ms8wx9ti7r
      @user-ms8wx9ti7r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to take a look at what you're getting hit by. Check the move properties to see if there's any kind of invuln beating you out. Check out how fast the moves are relative to each other. See who's pressing first, and who's moving into who. Relative timings for buttons dictate a lot of who wins a neutral situation, and it's another RPS situation that you have to master. Think about it as hitting your opponent loses to your opponent putting a move out early to control space. Putting a move out early loses to somebody staying outside of that move's range and reacting to it. And reacting to your opponent's button presses loses to somebody walking up and hitting you. Once you learn to spot that in neutral, you can adjust not only to your opponent's buttons, but the intent behind them as well. Good luck!

      @@user-ms8wx9ti7r thanks. That's really complicated for me. I never felt like this in sf4. In GG the counter are massive and a design choice. I will reread your comment and try to adapt. • @user-ms8wx9ti7r
      @user-ms8wx9ti7r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@akajiblubb2401 sf4 puts a lot of these concepts immediately in front of you because the game doesn't move as fast. It's not easier because of that, it just focuses on different things.
      I'll try framing the last point in a different way. In neutral, if your opponent is always rushing into you and trying their hardest to hit you, putting out a move early and letting them run into it will generally win. Your opponent can beat that by baiting you into whiffing the move, and then they punish the whiff. You can beat the bait by making sure your move hits them, instead of predicting that they'll run into you. If you do that, your opponent can beat you by putting a move out early knowing you're moving in to do it.
      Hit < Predict < React < Hit

    • @user-ms8wx9ti7r
      @user-ms8wx9ti7r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@akajiblubb2401 Counterhits are what happen when both players try for that RPS I described in neutral. You don't want to get counterhit, but it helps to take some time to think through why you were counterhit, and not just leave it at x move "beats" y move. High level play still has a lot of counterhits in it because of this. If people are saying you "love to hit buttons" then they're probably unsure of why you're pressing certain buttons at certain times. I can't really say more without seeing your games though.

      Basically instead of pressing a block string like 2K > 2D by mashing 2D right after pressing 2K wait for the active part of 2K and then press 2D so that if it hits your 2D comes out and links like expected but if you wiff, 2D will fail to appear giving you time to perhaps push a different button in light of the fact that you wiffed 2K. This will avoid somebody sight confirming the fact that you wiffed 2K and thus have to wait for the entire duration of 2K's recovery before the start up of 2D which you will *also* have to wait through before 2D's active frames appear. That duration is longer than if you actually connected with the 2K and as such you are vulnerable to moves that counter hit in that time frame. In less wordy terms sometimes your blockstring is "fake" if you wiff and will get counter hit, but by "buffering the input" you can avoid this by choosing a different combo route when you see you've wiffed.
      Somebody correct me if I'm off somewhere, but I think I caught the gist. Useful video about to go test my shit in the training room.
